Abstract: A method of making a metal reinforcing strip suitable for use in reinforcing a coating applied onto a pipe comprising providing a strip of welded wire mesh having longitudinal and transverse wires, and passing the strip between a pair of rollers which deform the longitudinal wires to an extent which increases progressively across the strip.

Abstract: A stabilizer composition for polyvinyl polymers contains(a) an organotin compound having the formula: ##STR1## WHEREIN M + N = 4 AND M IS EITHER 1 OR 2, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are each independently a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl or substituted alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms with the proviso that at least one of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 contains adjacent to the group HC-- a carbonyl group which forms a part of an acid group, ester group, acid halide group, ketone group or aldehyde group; X is a --S (CH.sub.2).sub.y --COOR.sup.5 or --S (CH.sub.2).sub.y --OCOR.sup.5 wherein y is 1 or 2, or a --SR.sup.5, --OCOR.sup.5 or --OCOCH.dbd.CHCOOR.sup.5, R.sup.5 having 1 to 18 carbon atoms; and(b) an organotin sulfide having the formula (R Sn S.sub.1.5).sub.n or R.sub.2 Sn S, wherein n is 2 to 10 and R is an alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms or the group: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are as above defined under (a).

Abstract: Dredging apparatus has a bucket ladder pivotally mounted thereon for vertical swinging movement about a horizontal axis. To stabilize the bucket ladder, the free end of the ladder is supported by a pulley and cable assembly which at its upper end is supported from the free arm of a lever pivotally mounted on the pontoon of the dredging apparatus. A hydro-pneumatic or pneumatic spring is pivotally mounted at one end on the pontoon and mounted for pivotal and sliding movement on and along a downwardly concave path on the lever at its other end, thereby to vary the point of application and hence the magnitude and direction of the spring force on the lever.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for detecting an aerosol, such as smoke, is provided. An electric potential is applied to one of a pair of electrically isolated conductors spaced apart from one another by a gap into which smoke may permeate. No potential is applied to the other conductor to attract charge particles to it. The two conductors define a tapering channel for guiding smoke particles to the gap between the conductors. The potential is high enough to ionize any aerosol particles in the gap. These ionized particles then drift to the second conductor, altering its potential. A high-gain amplifier detects any change in the potential of the second conductor and provides an output to indicate detection of an aerosol.

Abstract: High operating speeds of the powder brush of a rotating magnetic brush developing apparatus are made feasible, in order to improve the quality of developed images without causing contamination by powder escaping from the brush, by locating an air deflecting partition, for instance in the form of a plate arranged tangentially relative to the rotating sleeve of the apparatus, so that the partition will guide away an air stream entrained by the moving powder brush before it reaches the location where powder is supplied to the brush. The partition advantageously delimits a chamber formed over a sector of the powder brush, from which air carried past the partition in the powder brush and then expelled from it will escape in a controlled manner enabling recapture of the powder particles carried by such air before the air is discharged.

Abstract: The power wrench for turning threaded connection members comprises a power cylinder having a piston rod extending from one end of the cylinder and being operably coupled to a wrench arm connectable to a connection member for turning the same. A reaction support structure has a pivotal connection with the other end of the cylinder. The reaction support structure is supported from a pair of connection members. The structure includes discretely adjustable means for varying the angular position of the cylinder so as to maintain at mid-stroke of the rod, a substantially perpendicular relationship between the piston rod and the wrench arm to thereby accommodate the power wrench to a wide range of distinctly different patterns of the connection members.

Abstract: In a crawler vehicle having a rear housing or frame: a pair of hydrostatic transmission pumps located on the center line of the crawler are connected to a pair of motors arranged along the transverse axis by a manifold to form a cruciform unit. The cruciform unit is mounted in the rear housing.

Abstract: Antifungal compositions useful for the treatment of ringworm and other fungal infections comprising an antifungally effective amount of natamycin and a non-toxic, pharmaceutically acceptable organic acid compound and a suitable liquid carrier which compositions may be sprayed onto the animal, applied by a sponge or by other topical administration and concentrate comprising natamycin and the non-toxic, pharmaceutically acceptable organic acid compound in dry form.

Abstract: A monocular night glass comprising an image intensifier unit and a power unit pivoted to it by means of a hinge. When not in use, the power unit is folded against the housing of the image intensifier unit. When in use the power unit is turned through 90.degree. either or 180.degree. for viewing with one eye or the other eye respectively, the power unit forming a counterweight for the image intensifier unit in both viewing positions to facilitate mounting the instrument in front of the user's eyes, thus permitting the user to use the instrument while having both hands free for other tasks. In a preferred embodiment the hinge is hollow to receive a pin mounted on a strap worn around the user's head, helmet, or other headgear.

Abstract: A method for producing photographic images by development of an exposed silver halide element at elevated temperature is provided wherein the development occurs in the presence of a non-quaternary, non-heterocyclic nitrobenzene compound of the formula: ##STR1## WHEREIN: (R).sub.n stands for one or more substituents selected from hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl, substituted alkenyl, alkynyl, substituted alkynyl, alkoxy, substituted alkoxy, alkylmercapto, substituted alkylmercapto, amino, substituted amino, aryl, substituted aryl, hydroxy, nitro, cyano, sulpho or carboxy in acid or salt form, alkoxycarbonyl and an acyl group derived from a carboxylic or sulphonic acid.The nitrobenzene compounds have a favorable effect on the sensitometric properties of the silver halide emulsion that are developed at elevated temperature. They reduce the supplemental fog produced by development at elevated temperature.

Abstract: A process is described for the manufacture of a dimensionally stable polyester film support carrying a primer coating for improving the adhesion thereto of subsequently applied coatings, which process comprises applying to an unstretched or only monoaxially stretched polyester film support a layer of a coating composition from an aqueous dispersion, drying said layer, stretching it biaxially or in a direction perpendicular to the said first stretching operation together with the polyester film support and heat-setting the polyester film, wherein said coating composition, before drying and heat-setting, comprises a mixture of:(A) 52 to 79% by weight of a copolymeric binder comprising 60 to 95% by weight of methyl methacrylate, 3 to 20% by weight of a divinyl or diallyl monomer, 0 to 30% by weight of a plasticizing vinyl monomer, and 0 to 5% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid,(B) 0.

Abstract: The seat of a chair is mounted on a post or other supporting member by a seat mount which permits the seat to tilt forward (front end down) to a forward and downward rake of about 41/2.degree.. A bracket connected to the seat and located under generally the center of the seat pivots on an axle that is received and supported by a mounting plate rigidly fastened to the supporting member. Springs compressed between the mounting plate and the bracket restrain the seat from tilting down, and co-engageable stop surfaces associated with the bracket and mounting plate limit the extent of tilting of the seat (both forward and backward rake, when the latter is provided for). By joining the mounting plate and bracket by parallel front and rear axles fixed to the bracket and arranged to disengage axle-engaging surfaces on the plate, or vice versa, the seat can tilt both forward and backward; in this mode, the seat pivots or rocks on one axle, and the other axle disengages the axle-engaging surface.

Abstract: A method is described for preparing an .alpha.-substituted-.alpha.-acylacetamide wherein an .alpha.-acyl-.alpha.-halo-acetamide is allowed to react with an organic compound with pKa between 7 and 12 in a medium of an aprotic solvent and in the presence of a tetraalkylguanidine as basic condensing agent.

Abstract: Therapeutically useful A-nor-androsta-3(5),16-dien-2-one derivatives of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, process for their preparation by dehydrating in the 16-17 position a corresponding 17-hydroxy compound, and pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of dermatological disorders, which comprise, as an active ingredient at least one of the A-nor-steroids as defined by formula I, are disclosed.

Abstract: A combination suitable for radiography comprising two separate x-ray fluorescent screens and a photosensitive material comprising a support with a silver halide layer coated on each surface of said support, wherein each of the fluorescent screens is arranged adjacent to one of the silver halide layers. The maximum emission of the x-ray screen is in the wavelength range of 450-570 nm, while the silver halide layers are sensitive to light in the same wavelength range.

Abstract: A combination suitable for radiography comprising an x-ray fluorescent screen and a photosensitive silver halide recording material. The x-ray screen has more than half of its special emission above 410 nm, with its emission maximum in the wavelength range of 480 to 600 nm. The light absorption spectrum of the silver halide material corresponds with the light emission spectrum of the x-ray screen.

Abstract: 2-equivalent color couplers for yellow carrying at the coupling position via an oxygen atom a 5-membered N-containing unsaturated heterocyclic substituent, that is split off during oxidative coupling with an aromatic primary amine color developer and forms a competing coupler molecule.

Abstract: A sheet or web material for use in developing and fixing toner images which comprises a support and a thermo-adhesive fixing layer defining the surface of the material on which the toner image is deposited. The thermo-adhesive fixing layer comprises an organic polymeric material and has the following properties: a surface resistance above 10.sup.10 Ohm/square, freedom from blocking at least up to 35.degree. C, a melt viscosity at 190.degree. C of not more than 120 P, and an abrasion resistance at 20.degree. C above 175 g.The process for fixing a toner image on this sheet or web material comprises the steps of image-wise depositing on said thermo-adhesive fixing layer toner particles forming with the molten thermo-adhesive fixing layer a contact angle smaller than 90.degree., heating above 90.degree.

Abstract: An organotin dihalide having the formula ##STR1## OR A MIXTURE OF THE DIHALIDE AND AN ORGANOTIN TRIHALIDE IS PREPARED BY REACTING METALLIC TIN WITH AN OLEFIN HAVING THE FORMULA ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.4 are hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical and at least one of R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 contains an oxygen-containing group with a carbonyl group adjacent to the olefinic double bond and Hal is a halogen. The organotin dihalide or mixture thereof with a trihalide is reacted with an acid or mercaptan to produce a stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride polymers and the like.

Abstract: The invention provides a seal for pipe joint couplings, the present seal comprising a sleeve member receivable over the pipe joint and extending for a relatively short distance along each of the pipes. The seal further comprises an annular pressure chamber formed in the inner wall of the sleeve facing each of the pipes, the outer surface of each pipe acting to define the chamber, each pressure chamber being partially positioned into two sub-chambers by an inwardly extending annular bead formed on the sleeve, the sub-chambers each having packings such as O-rings disposed therein.
