  • Patent number: 4149475
Abstract: Seed drill has a row of coulters which are raised and lowered by a beam positioned above the coulters and connected to the coulters by spring assemblies. The beam is journalled for pivotal movement about its longitudinal axis and the spring assemblies are connected to the beam so that some exert reaction forces on the beam having clockwise moments about the beam's pivot axis, and others anticlockwise moments, whereby changes in loading of the coulters can be distributed between the coulters by angular movement of the beam about its pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 4148274
Abstract: An apparatus for liquid development of latent images on sheets or webs comprises a plurality of applicator stations which sequentially deliver processing liquid to the latent image bearing surface of the sheets or webs. The latter are transported above the respective applicator stations with the concerning surface in downward direction. A controlling mechanism provides for the arrestment of the liquid supply before the trailing edge of the sheet or web has passed over the respective applicator station for the provision of not wetting the backside of the latter. The apparatus is extremely suited for developing latent electrostatic half-tone images on a high polymeric support.

  • Patent number: 4148647
Abstract: A method is described of making reversal images in Lippmann-emulsions wherein the emulsion is image-wise exposed and subjected to a first stage development so that a negative silver image of the original is formed but some silver halide is left in the exposed areas, and then to a second stage development under fogging conditions to develop said residual silver halide in the exposed areas, whereafter the silver developed in said first and second development stages is bleached and the active silver halide then still remaining in the emulsion is converted to form a positive image.

  • Patent number: 4148176
Abstract: A haymaking machine has two side-by-side rake wheels that are driven to rotate about upwardly extending axes and move crop between the wheels. Converging guide walls of horizontal rods are positioned in front of the rake wheels and some of the rods extend rearwardly to intersect the working paths of the wheels. Preferably the walls are located above the wheels. Each wheel has arms pivoted to a central portion and groups of tines are pivoted to the outer ends of the arms to turn about horizontal axes. Each group of tines is mounted on a carrier by coils that surround a tube so that the coils can be turned relative to the tube about a vertical axis and set in swath or tedding positions. Swath guides can be positioned at the rear of the rake wheels.

  • Patent number: 4147117
Abstract: A cultivating implement with a coupling mechanism for attachment to the rear of a prime mover has a row of rotatable tined supports mounted on upwardly extending shafts. The implement has an elongated frame to house the drive elements for the row of supports which extend transverse to the direction of travel. A ground roller is pivoted to the frame to trail the tined supports and interconnected with the frame through arms that have adjusting means. The adjusting device can vary the distance between the frame and the ground roller so that, in effect, the working depths of the tines are regulated. The implement is supported solely by the roller, coupling mechanism and the tines. A seed drill with coulters is connected to the implement so that seeds can be directly sown in the soil worked by the tines. The tines are configured to intensely work the soil and the roller is positioned to support much of the weight of the implement and crumble the soil.

  • Patent number: 4147977
Abstract: The motion of an electromechanical device such as a relay may be analyzed through the use of the present system. A bundle of fiber optic filaments are located with one end adjacent the movable object which is to be sensed or analyzed. This movable object may, for example, be the armature of an electromagnet. With regard to the fiber optic probe, half of the fiber optic elements may be provided with input illumination and the other half of the bundle may be connected to transmit reflected light from the moving armature to a remotely located light-sensitive element such as an opto-transistor. An oscilloscope is provided to monitor the response of the electromagnet to applied signals. An actuating circuit is connected not only to apply energizing current to the electromagnet, but also to trigger the sweep of the oscilloscope.

  • Patent number: 4146494
Abstract: Electrically conductive developer powder for developing electrostatic images by inductive attraction is provided, with avoidance of practical disadvantages of known "one-component" developer powders, by incorporating finely divided water-insoluble quaternary ammonium salt into thermoplastic resin particles forming the powder, with or without other finely divided additives such as coloring material and/or magnetically attractable material. The specific resistance of the resin particles is lowered to between 10.sup.7 and 10.sup.11 ohm. cm by from 8 to 35% by weight of the quaternary ammonium salt, and can be lowered further by additions of fine conductive material such as carbon black. The resin particles remain sufficiently fusible even when they also contain enough magnetically attractable material, e.g. about 50% by weight, to render them transportable by a magnetic powder-applicator.

  • Patent number: 4145740
Abstract: A filament winding machine includes a servomotor connected to position a filament distributing carriage relative to a rotating mandrel to form a tubular member. An incremental encoder is connected to the mandrel and produces a pulse related output per mandrel revolution. An absolute encoder is connected to the servomotor and provides an absolute position number. The encoders are sampled at a fixed rate. A mathematical calculating circuit reads the incremental encoder and based on a predetermined movement design for the gear drive, the desired winding configuration and the like determines the proper position, which is compared to the absolute encoder reading to produce an error control signal to the servomotor. A preselected sequence of actual position numbers and the corresponding calculated position numbers are continuously updated in a temporary memory.
