Abstract: An organophilic clay gellant having enhanced utility in alcohol compositions is prepared from the reaction product of a smectite-type clay having a cation exchange capacity of at least 0.75 milliequivalents per gram and from about 0.90 to less than about 1.20 milliequivalents per gram of clay of a castor fatty propylamido benzyl dialkyl, i.e., methyl or ethyl ammonium salt.
Abstract: A game apparatus includes an array of paddle-type display elements rotatably mounted in a housing, with the paddles of the display elements having suitable indicia thereon. The game may be played by actuation of selective display elements in tic-tac-toe fashion, with actuation of the paddle elements being preferably effected by tossing small bags against selective paddles. The array of display elements is arranged in a series of rows and columns in a body structure, with each display element being rotatably mounted about a shaft secured to the body structure. Each display element preferably comprises three radially extending planar portions radiating from a central hub, and an aperture is provided in the hub to which the associated shaft extends. Each aperture defines in cross-section an isosceles triangle.
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for attaching the vertical slats of a slatted blind to another element for support, in which an end of each slat is inserted into a cap like member having inwardly directed suspension lugs which support the slat by engagement in holes through the slat which are spaced from but adjacent to the end edge of the slat.
Abstract: Casks for shipping spent radio-active fuel elements are protected against damage by providing impact absorbing means at each end of the cask, the impact absorbing means being designed to absorb end-on and side impact as well as angular impact forces.
Abstract: N elementary transducers are distributed regularly along a line of scanni An ultrasonic frequency receiver is associated with phase lag means. The distribution over n successive elementary transducers of the phases corresponding to focusing at a predetermined distance or several successive distances from the line is stored. That distribution corresponds to several Fresnel zones. Switches first connect a generator to a group of n' transducers corresponding to the central Fresnel zone of said stored distribution and later connect a group of n transducers to the receiver direct and via the phase lag means according to the stored distribution(s). The groups of n' and n elementary transducers are shifted along the line at intervals of time. The phase lag means may consist of inverter means causing a phase angle of .pi..

Abstract: In a crawler vehicle having a rear housing or frame a splitter gearbox and double hydraulic pump for a hydrostatic transmission are mounted on the front flange of the rear housing for ease of servicing and plumbing. A single driveshaft from the engine drives the gearbox and an extra pump may be mounted on the splitter gearbox. The single driveshaft may constitute a power-take-off drive.
Abstract: Apparatus for producing high-melting-metal-oxide-based crystalline materials by melting a charge under the effect of a high-frequency electromagnetic field with the charge melting zone being maintained constant, the charge being loaded continuously and obtained crystalline material being withdrawn also continuously. The apparatus is a cooled mould, whose body is shaped as a truncated cone with an angle between its generatrix and cone height ranging from 2.degree. to 10.degree., and an induction coil encompassing the body of the cooled mould in the region of location of the constant melting zone.

Abstract: A process for producing metallic lead from lead battery plates and other types of lead scrap in a secondary lead smelting operation has been developed which comprises adding from 1% to 8% moisture and 0.5% to 5% oxygen to the air which is used to react with carbonaceous material such as coke to maintain the temperature in the melting region from about 1100.degree. C. to about 1300.degree. C. The moisture is added to the air to react with the coke to form carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and the oxygen is added to maintain the temperature in the melting zone. Increased amounts of lead are produced using smaller quantities of coke and iron when the moisture and the oxygen are added to the air.
Abstract: An implement has an elongated frame that extends transverse to the direction of travel and soil-working members rotatably mounted on a portion of the frame that depends from spaced apart, forward and rear frame beams. A coupling assembly having coupling points for auxiliary implements is pivoted to the forward frame beam by two beam members that extend rearwardly and rest on top of the rear frame beam to limit the downward movement of the assembly when the implement is raised. The rear ends of the beam members are connected to a tubular beam and further beams extend rearward from the tubular beam. A transverse beam interconnects the further beams centrally thereof and coupling points such as hooks are adjustably connected to plates that depend from the further beams. A central coupling point is fastened to the transverse beam and the further beams are adjustable to vary the width of the assembly.
Abstract: A hopper barge has an unloading opening covered by a slide that moves parallel to the plane of the opening. In the closed position, the slide is sealed by an inflatable seal disposed in a channel that opens toward the slide and that surrounds the opening.

Abstract: A telephone adapter for hands-free telephony, adapted for use with a telephone handset having structure including an earpiece, comprising: a transmit signal path comprising, in series, a microphone, amplification means, disabling means and a transducer; a receive signal path having means for amplifying sound energy from said earpiece, said receive path comprising, in series, a coupler, amplification means, disabling means and speaker means; bias means for maintaining said transmit path in an active state when no signals are present; and, means for interrupting said circuit paths in a complementary manner.
Abstract: A homogenizing mechanism for a manure slurry in combination with a supply container and blades adapted to penetrate about fifteen centimeters under the soil surface for injecting manure into the soil by an injection pipe carried by the blade. The mechanism is disposed between container and the injection outlet so that the injected slurry must pass therethrough. An air displacement pump selectively places the container under pressure (up to about one atmosphere) or vacuum for moving the slurry out of or into the container, respectively. The homogenizing mechanism has a substantially cylindrical casing with an inlet from the container on one end and an outlet leading to the injector at the other end. The inlet may be a conduit or an open end of a casing mounted in part within the container.
Abstract: The invention relates to a locking mechanism for a vertically slatted blind. The locking mechanism rides in the top rail which also supports the slats. The locking mechanism is operated by flexible tension members.
