Abstract: Method of separating a mixture of a carrier medium and at least one substance insoluble therein, for example, water and oil or gas and soot, in which the mixture is separated in three steps, i.e. a first step in which the mixture is passed for coalescence of the substance through a first packet of moving filter material, a second step in which the substance coalesced segregates from the mixture by gravity and a third step in which the remainder of the substance and the other packet of filter material is filtered out.

Abstract: Mordanting agents for anionic organic compounds are described which comprise recurring units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl; A is methylene or methylene sustituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl;N is 0 or 1;R.sub.2 is alkyl, andX is an acid radical.They are particularly suitable for hindering diffusion of dyes in hydrophilic colloid media e.g. hydrophilic colloid layers of a photographic silver halide element, for hindering diffusion of color couplers in such layers e.g. layers of a radiographic silver halide color element and for the formation of color images by the relief imbibition process.

Abstract: A polishing machine comprises a vertically movable surface on which is mounted a driving motor for rotating a support supporting on an axis of oscillation the gearbox an electric motor associated with an eccentric means urging the said motor to pivot on the axis of oscillation, the output shaft of the motor being provided with a spindle carrying a work tool normally occupying an eccentric position relative to the axis of the support. The machine has application in the polishing of the internal impression of a mould.

Abstract: Novel 1-(1,3-dioxolan-2-ylmethyl)-1H-imidazoles and 1H-1,2,4-triazoles useful as antifungal and antibacterial agents.

Abstract: A photographic material for reproduction especially of continuous tone originals by the silver complex diffusion transfer process comprising in order:(1) a silver halide emulsion layer,(2) a layer reflecting white light having a dry coating weight in the range of 5 g/sq.m to 20 g/sq.m and dispersed in an organic hydrophilic colloid binder white inorganic pigment particles in such an amount that such layer has a diffuse transmission density of 0.30 to 0.50 and a reflection density of 0.15 to 0.20,(3) a subbing layer,(4) a hydrophobic transparent film support,(5) a subbing layer, and(6) an antihalation layer having a dry coating weight in the range of 4 g/sq.m to 15 g/sq.m and containing dispersed in an organic hydrophilic colloid binder a non-bleachable black antihalation material in such an amount that such layer has a diffuse transmission density of at least 2.

Abstract: Safranic acid esters having the general formula ##STR1## wherein the dotted lines represent two conjugated double bonds in the positions 2 endocyclic and 4 (.alpha.-isomer), 1 and 3 (.beta.-isomer) or 2 exocyclic and 3 (.gamma.-isomer), R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group containing at least 2 carbon atoms, or, in the .gamma.isomers an alkylidene group with 2 or 3 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group with 3 or 4 carbon atoms in the form of a perfumed product or flavoring composition. A process for the preparation of a perfumed product or flavoring composition wherein the safranic acid esters are incorporated with other suitable constituents.

Abstract: A tractor draft load sensing apparatus in which a pair of draft links are pivotally connected to opposite end portions of a bar which extends transversely across the tractor and is supported thereon at spaced locations so that draft loads imposed on the links cause flexing of the bar. A tube is rotatably mounted on the bar and extends therealong while draft load signalling means are attached to the tube for rotation therewith. The tube is operatively associated with the tractor so that flexing of the tube, caused by the imposition of draft loads, results in rotation of the tube and hence the signalling means about the bar.

Abstract: Flow straightener for improving the flow profile in a gas line ahead of a flowmeter, comprising at least three plates with regularly distributed perforations and spaced apart parallel to each other perpendicularly to the axis of the line. The perforated plates are mounted with a circumferential sealing (preferably welded) in or on a sleeve which can be inserted in the line with a sliding fit.

Abstract: Low pour point hydrocarbon oil compositions are prepared by incorporating in a hydrocarbon oil such as crude oil, gas oil, residual fuel oil, etc. about 0.01 to about 0.5 percent by weight of an oil-soluble alkylated polybenzyl polymer or copolymer with, for example styrene, the said polymer or copolymer having a molecular weight of about 500 to about 50,000 or more. The polymer or copolymer may be added, for example, as a hydrocarbon solution to the base hydrocarbon oil after which the final oil composition is formed by heating the components to 100.degree. to 350.degree. F. for one hour or more with mixing.

Abstract: An assembly for protecting and insulating a junction such as a splice between cables. The assembly may be repaired or modified without a complete renewal of the junction. The assembly includes a relatively rigid longitudinally split tube which is positioned about the junction. Relatively rigid support means, such as rings, are positioned at the ends of the tube and a plurality of relatively flexible prongs project longitudinally, at spaced intervals, around the circumference of at least one end of the tube. The prongs may be attached to, or formed integrally with the support means. A heat-shrinkable sleeve of length greater than the length of the tube, with the support means and prongs, is disposed about the tube, support means and prongs. At least part of the inner wall of the heat-shrinkable sleeve is provided with a sealant so that on shrinking, the end regions of the sleeve overlying the free ends of the prongs are shrunk down over the conduits and are sealed thereto.

Abstract: A multihydrocyclone includes a plurality of structural units of parallel-connected hydrocyclones having their overflow pipes and drains opening into respective common headers for overflow fractions and for drain fractions. The headers are each formed by an assembly of discharge conduits which terminate into or combine into collecting conduits having a throughflow area which is at least substantially proportional to the local amounts of flow, so that in the discharge path of the fractions there are no reductions in the flow velocity which would give rise to clogging.

Abstract: A spreader for granular or powdery material such as fertilizer having three conveyors extending transversally from each side of a hopper for the material, the hopper having two funnels and two discharge ports, one for each funnel, each discharge port being disposed above the inboard ends of a corresponding group of conveyors with each conveyor in each group having different lengths and terminating outboard in a rotary disc spreading member, such spreading members being spaced apart about 2 meters in the two groups of conveyors which are aligned. The conveyors each comprise an endless belt which, through further belts, rotate the spreader members about vertical axes. Disposed between each spreader and the end of the corresponding conveyor is a guide hood which guides the flow of material to the rotary disc behind its flat ejector blades which are biased 60.degree. from a radial line intercepting the inward edge of the blade, so that at design speed the material is ejected through an arc of about 180.degree..

Abstract: A centrifuge for separating liquid and solid materials, comprising an outer drum and an inner drum formed as a worm conveyor. Control means are provided for maintaining a set speed differential between the outer drum and the inner drum at a constant value through a proportional action, and in addition to the proportional action performing a corrective control action on the speed differential upon variation of the torque required.

Abstract: An X-ray diffraction apparatus of the kind comprising first and second diaphragm tubes in coaxial alignment, displaceable with respect to each other and defining an adjustable circular diaphragm slit between them, a cylindrical film cassette enclosing the diaphragm slit and provided with a slot for admitting the X-rays, a rotatable specimen spindle enclosed by the first diaphragm tube and an elongated carrier bearing supports for each of the diaphragm tubes at its ends. At least one of the supports is laterally arranged with respect to the associated diaphragm tube and connected with the same by a bridge member having a height slightly smaller than the width of the cassette slot, so that the film cassette may be removed from the apparatus by sliding the cassette slot over the bridge member. In a preferred embodiment, the film cassette performs a reciprocal axial movement and is exclusively supported, during this movement, by the diaphragm tubes.
