Abstract: A method of producing direct-positive images is provided which comprises developing an exposed direct-positive silver halide emulsion comprising electron-traps and fogged silver halide grains in the absence of halide ions so as to obtain higher maximum density. It is possible to decrease the degree of fogging so as to obtain direct-positive emulsions of high-sensitivity which, when developed in the absence of halide ions, still provide favorable maximum density values.

Abstract: In order to improve the ignition of the fuel-air-mixture provided in the combustion cylinder at a low fuel expenditure the displacement member of a first fuel pump is coupled with an armature of an electro-magnet and at the same time an air supply conduit of the combustion engine is provided with a second atomizer supplying fuel to the air.In this combustion engine the first atomizer may inject fuel in a finely divided condition in the vicinity of the spark-plug, so that the extra rich fuel-air-mixture can be ignited easily in the vicinity of the spark-plug as a result of which the combustion of the remaining, relatively poor fuel-air-mixture takes place.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process for removing hydrogen chloride, chlorine, chlorides, oxychlorides and metal chlorides from a beneficiate produced by contacting a titaniferous ore with chlorine at high temperatures preferably in the presence of carbon wherein the beneficiate mixed with carbon is contacted at temperatures of about 1000.degree. C. with steam, moist air or moist inert gas. The beneficiate which is essentially titanium dioxide is useful as a starting material for the manufacture of titanium dioxide pigments.
Abstract: In transferring powder images from a moving photoconductive support to a receiving material such as copy paper passing in contact with the support over a transfer roller, while both applying a direct current potential to effect image transfer and brushing the surface of the transfer roller to remove powder particles attracted to it from parts of the support. A potential effective for transferring the image is applied without hampering the cleaning action of the brush or brushes by maintaining between the support and the transfer roller a pulsating direct current which, for instance, has a frequency of 60 Herz or 50 Herz and preferably is generated by single phase rectification of a current formed by superimposing a sinusoidal alternating current and a direct current.
Abstract: Organotin trihalides are prepared by reacting in a polar solvent a stannous halide, hydrogen halide and an olefin of the formula ##STR1## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 are an alkyl group, an oxygen-containing hydrocarbon group or a hydrogen atom and at least one of the groups contains a carbonyl group adjacent to the carbon-carbon double bond. The resulting product may be converted into organotin stabilizers for polyvinyl chloride and other polymers.

Abstract: The cage is made of netting panels forming a basket and flotation material secured to a frame. The frame is made of split tubing, with the edges of the netting inserted into the gap left by the split and secured within the tubing. Seams between netting panels of the basket are formed in the same manner. The tubing can be metallic or flexible plastic tubing with a steel rod inside. The edge of a metallic top for the cage can be secured in the plastic tubing instead. Netting material can be used for the top of the cage, with the flotation material underneath and secured to the netting top. The flotation material also provides shade for the aquatic animals in the cage. An H-shaped metal frame structure preferably is used to provide added strength for the cage top, and to provide a support for a hinged lid.

Abstract: A V-shaped, substantially flat, sheet metal, combined web-connector plate having diverging web-forming legs and integral apex and leg end connector portions provided with struck-out teeth for embedding within spaced apart wooden chord members to form a wood chord-metal web type truss. The connector plate is offset inwardly from the end of the chord and the connector plate is positioned to slightly overlap a beam or columnar support to reduce shear stress in the chord.
Abstract: A wire or band strapping machine comprises a driven roll pair for feeding a wire or band towards a guide loop about an object to be strapped as well as a driven roll pair for reversing the direction of movement of the wire or band to draw the same out of the guide and about the object, said pairs of driven rolls being placed at a distance above each other with the wire or band approaching the loop along a vertical U-shaped path with the feeding and reversing roll pairs operating on the upper and lower horizontal legs of that path. The motor drives the feeding roll pair by an endless member while the reversing roll pair is driven by the endless member between the two roll pairs.
Abstract: In copying apparatus utilizing an endless belt to hold electrostatic or powder images and carry them through a station for transfer to a receiving surface, the belt is arranged for movement through a path containing turns where it is engaged by rollers, with some of these rollers contacting its image bearing side, and each roller so contacting the belt is constituted by freely rotatable narrow roller members which contact it only in narrow margins along its opposite edges, so outside the surface regions that usually carry the images. A considerable length of the belt can be held in a close undulating path, as in a compact magazine, by a series of rollers arranged in parallel rows with each roller in one of these rows constituted by such narrow roller members engaging the image bearing side of the belt.
Abstract: A pump is provided with a regulating device which includes a valve and a motor. The motor operates on the pump to vary the capacity thereof. Movement of the motor is controlled by the valve which has a spool and a body. A feedback link is provided between the motor and the body so that movement of the motor due to a displacement of the spool moves the body to return the valve to neutral. Hunting of the transmission is thus reduced.
Abstract: According to this invention there is provided a soil cultivating implement comprising a plurality of downwardly extending tines arranged in a transverse row and rotatable ground engaging members that are located in front of and behind the row of tines with respect to the intended direction of operative travel of the implement, at least one of the rotatable ground engaging members being in the form of a roller which is mechanically driven during operation, said roller being disposed to the rear of said row of downwardly extending tines and comprising a number of longitudinal elements which extend in the direction of the axis of rotation of the said roller.

Abstract: A process of treating raw or primary waste water using a powdered, activated carbon/aerated biological treatment system is disclosed. Effluent turbidities less than 2 JTU (Jackson turbidity units), zero TOC (total organic carbon) and in the range of 10 mg/l COD (chemical oxygen demand) can be obtained. An influent stream of raw or primary waste water is contacted with an acidified, powdered, activated carbon/alum mixture. Lime is then added to the slurry to raise the pH to about 7.0. A polyelectrolyte flocculant is added to the slurry followed by a flocculation period -- then sedimentation and filtration. The separated solids (sludge) are aerated in a stabilization sludge basin and a portion thereof recycled to an aerated contact basin for mixing with the influent waste water stream prior to or after contact of the influent stream with the powdered, activated carbon/alum mixture.
Abstract: Ornamental element consisting of a number of tile-shaped parts which are joined, with interspaces, on the non-exposed side to form a bond. The adjacent tile-shaped parts are given a fixed relative bond by one or more joining strips, which form one whole with the tile-shaped parts, and consist preferably of one and the same material, and are moulded in one action. The joining strips are made as bridgings, the height of the opening of which plus the tile thickness is equal to or larger than the width of the joint between the tile shaped parts; the thickness if equal to or smaller than the width of the joint. The bridge-shaped parts have a form which allows release from a mould. The ornamental element consists of a thermosetting agent, for example of an unsaturated polyester with fillers or a ceramic material.
