Abstract: A sucrose beverage or beverage concentrate and their method of preparation in which at most 0.25% by weight of gum arabic, calculated as a dry substance on the sucrose as dry substance, is incorporated therein. The gum arabic may be introduced into the beverage or beverage concentrate before, during or after their preparation as a solid or in the form of a 50 to 60% aqueous solution.

Abstract: Turnable window arrangement with a casement connected to a window frame by means of two oppositely directed pivot pins at one end of the casement which is uppermost when the latter is in its normal closed position. The pivot pins slidably engage their respective associated guide grooves in the window frame to permit this one end of the casement to be displaced to selected pivotal positions between upper and lower ends of the frame. The pivot pins are also displaceable in the casement in a direction substantially parallel to the height dimension of the casement, namely parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vertical side portion of the casement. Link arm mechanisms are arranged on their respective opposite sides of the casement for the support of the latter in the window frame at the selected pivotal positions.

Abstract: A photosensitive recording material that is capable of producing directly a visible image as a result of an image-wise exposure to activating electromagnetic radiation and which contains an intimate mixture comprising:1. at least one ultra-violet radiation-sensitive organic polyhalogen compound, and2. a dye precursor compound corresponding to the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 represents (1) a substituted aryl group, at least one substituent of the substituted aryl group being an ether group R.sub.6 --O-- in which R.sub.6 represents a hydrocarbon group, including a substituted hydrocarbon group or (2) a heterocyclic group including a substituted heterocyclic group,R.sub.2 represents a substituted aryl group, at least one substituent of the substituted aryl group, being an ether group R.sub.6 --O--, in which R.sub.

Abstract: This invention provides a method of sealing and purging contaminants from the internal free spaces of an insulated electrical device by forcing into said free spaces a low viscosity material that acts to displace fluid contaminants from within said free spaces. The material later cures in situ to form a hydrophobic seal with good electrical properties. Also disclosed herein is a method for rehabilitating waterlogged plastic insulated multiconductor communications cables of the type employed in telephone systems.

Abstract: A ventilator is disclosed having a power unit for driving the ventilator which includes fluidic timing control means, gas input means and gas output means. The gas input means is connected to the timing control means via pressure regulating means. Display means are provided to the timing control means. The timing control means is connected to the output means and is alternately conductive and non-conductive of gas from the input means to the output means. The ratio of the periods of conductivity to non-conductivity remain fixed even where the frequency of alternation varies to maintain a fixed ratio of the inspiratory to expiratory phase time.

Abstract: A thermosetting coating composition contains a polyisocyanate blocked with a hydroxamic acid ester or an acyl hydroxamate. The polyisocyanate in the coating composition may be activated by dissociation of the blocking agent and polyisocyanate at a lower temperature than the blocked polyisocyanate of conventional coating compositions.

Abstract: A die assembly with two spaced lips which define an elongated die orifice, wherein one of the lips is adjustable by means of wedges which are in sliding engagement with an inclined face of the lip and which are disposed in spaced relation along the length of the orifice and wherein for each wedge a spring is provided that keeps the wedges in firm contact with the corresponding faces, thereby to obtain a localized adjustment of the lip and a firm locking of the local lip position.

Abstract: A multilayer motion picture film material comprises a support, at least one light-sensitive emulsion layer on one side of the support, and at the opposite side of the support an antihalation layer capable of being removed from the support in the presence of an alkaline solution. On this antihalation layer at least one stripe is applied from a coating composition containing magnetizable material dispersed in an alkali-insoluble binder and also containing a cross-linking agent for the alkali-soluble binder of the antihalation layer. As cross-linking agent is used at least one bis- or polyepoxide in combination with at least one sulphoxide and/or with formamide, the bis- or polyepoxide corresponding to one of the formulae: ##STR1## and ##STR2## wherein R represents an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a benzyl group, or a group of the formula ##STR3## and each of R' and R" represents a methyl group, or a ##STR4## OR R' and R" together represent a --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 -- group.

Abstract: An installation for use in the discontinuous production of high molecular weight polyethylene terephthalate according to either a first process wherein the production starts by producing bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-terephthalate by transesterification from dimethylterephthalate and ethylene glycol, or according to a second process starting with the production of a precondensate by reacting terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol. The installation comprises substantially a first and a second reaction vessel and a connection between said vessels, and means whereby the flow of reaction product through said connection can be accurately controlled to permit all or only part of the contents of the first vessel to pass to the second vessel.

Abstract: Novel azetidine derivatives of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an acylamido group, R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## wherein R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are individually selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl and lower alkenyl, n is 2 or 3 and -- in the case when formula IIB is a phenyl - this group may carry one to four substituents selected from the group consisting of halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl and phenyl, and R.sub.3 is lower alkyl optionally substituted with 1 or 2 phenyls which phenyl groups may be substituted with nitro and the dotted lines of formula IIB indicate the optional presence of double bonds and a process for their preparation and process for the preparation of cephalosporanic acid derivatives using the azetidines of formula I as intermediates.

Abstract: A casting machine for making concrete slabs having a mold swingable about a horizontal axis and a vibrator swingable in a horizontal plane adjustable in height about a vertical axis from an inactive position at the side of the machine and into a working position above the mold. The vibrator is provided with a pressure plate for vibrating, compacting and glazing the surface of the concrete inside the mold, the bottom of which can be adjusted in vertical direction for producing slabs having different thicknesses. Further, the bottom is slidable from a filling position to a stripping position when the mold is turned 180.degree. about a horizontal axis.

Abstract: A normally closed wafer thin switch, particularly intended for pilferage type burglar alarms, comprising a flat base plate of insulating material having an opening therein and a pair of leaf spring contacts attached to one peripheral portion of the plate and extending over the opening. Free ends of the contacts normally engage each other to complete a circuit. A raised tab on a first of the contacts overlies an opposite peripheral portion of the plate whereby, when an object is placed on or against the switch, the tab is depressed against the plate, causing opening of the switch.

Abstract: A continuously operating double belt press in which the belts are formed from a plurality of articulated plates and which further includes endless steel bands surrounding and moving with the endless plate belts is provided with a large-diameter drum downstream of each endless plate belt. In addition, the endless steel band surrounding and moving with each endless plate belt is made to surround and move with the large-diameter drum as well. With this design, the compressive pressure exerted by the endless plate belts can be reduced since the large-diameter drums can be utilized to exert additional pressure at higher pressure levels when the material being processed passes out from between the endless plate belts.

Abstract: A pressure-relief valve especially for use in dams and other hydraulic-turbine installations has a deflecting member that diverts an axially flowing stream outwardly at the discharge side of the valve. This valve has two fluid-operated servomotors, one responding to the water pressure in the system and the other to the pressure of a control fluid. These servomotors are hydraulic cylinders mounted on diametrically opposite hollow ribs inside the housing of the valve body and have pistons interconnected by a common piston rod. An indicating rod extends radially from this piston rod through one of the hollow ribs, and the feed lines for the two cylinders also extend out through these ribs.

Abstract: Agalactia and associated disease problems have been recognized as major causes of economic loss in animal breeding, especially in such areas as swine raising. Nevertheless its importance in other fields, such as the breeding of horses, cows, sheep and dogs may not be underestimated. The loss is primarily manifested as stunting and mortality of young animals during the postnatal period. It is clear that virtually all losses attributed to starvation and many of the losses attributed to trauma, diarrhea and weakness are closely linked to insufficient milk consumption during the immediate postpartum period.

Abstract: A method of packing a wire netting coil by laying over each end of the coil a protective end cover having a plurality of tongues hingedly connected thereto, introducing the tongues into the coil in sufficient independent frictional engagement with the coil to keep the end covers in place, and subsequently tightly enclosing the coil with the thusly affixed end covers into a packing sheet.

Abstract: A method of producing a colored image by developing a latent silver image obtained by the image-wise photo-exposure of a photosensitive silver halide material, wherein the development is carried out with p-phenylenediamine corresponding to the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein: EACH OF R'.sub.1, R'.sub.2, R'.sub.3, and R'.sub.4 (same or different) represents an alkyl group, in the presence of1. a hydrazone compound having the following general formula: ##STR2## wherein: N IS 1, 2, OR 3,R.sub.1 is hydrogen or an acyl group, andR.sub.2 is a --CONH.sub.2 group or a --SO.sub.2 X group, wherein X represents a hydroxyl group, an amino group, an aliphatic group, an aryl group or an heterocyclic group,R.sub.3 is an alkyl group or an aryl group, andZ represents the necessary atoms to close a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic nucleus, and2. a color coupler of the phenol, naphthol, or active methylene compound series.

Abstract: A process for reproducing an original having visible light absorptive image markings on a light transparent background by exposing to visible light passing through the original a normally water-removable heat-sensitive recording layer which consists essentially of a hydrophilic water-removable binder having generally homogeneously distributed therethrough finely divided particles of a hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer normally solid at room temperature together with finely divided material capable of absorbing visible light and converting it into heat and is otherwise generally transparent. The exposure is for a time lasting no longer than 10.sup.-.sup.1 second to visible light of an intensity of at least 0.3 watt, sec. per sq.cm.
