Patent number: 6831726Abstract: In a liquid crystal display panel, by adhering the TFT substrate 1 to the color filter (CF) substrate 2 such that the repeating direction of thickness distribution or irregularity distribution of the TFT substrate 1 becomes orthogonal to the repeating direction of thickness distribution or irregularity distribution of the CF substrate 2, a distance between a point at which the thick portion of the TFT substrate 1 overlaps on the thick portion of the CF substrate 2 and a point at which the thin portion of the TFT substrate 1 and the thin portion of the CF substrate 2 are overlapped becomes larger than that in a case where the substrates are adhered each other with the repeating directions thereof being trued up. Therefore, the factor defective of the liquid crystal display panel caused by the overlapping of the thick portions and the overlapping of the thin portions of the substrates, that is, the factor defective of the liquid crystal display panel caused by variation of display, can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2001Date of Patent: December 14, 2004Assignee: NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd.Inventors: Yoshinori Aoyagi, Yuji Tanaka, Hironori Shiba

Patent number: 6831295Abstract: A TFT-LCD device has a plurality of scanning lines formed by a first level metallic layer, a plurality of data lines formed by a second level metallic layer, and an array of pixels each having a TFT and a pixel electrode made of a third level ITO layer. Each pixel further includes a shied ring formed by the second level metallic layer for suppressing variance in the parasitic capacitances formed between the pixel electrode and other conductive layers. The suppression of the variance in the parasitic capacitances reduces the feed-through voltage, thereby improving the display performance of the TFT-LCD device.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2001Date of Patent: December 14, 2004Assignee: NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd.Inventor: Yumiko Tsubo

Publication number: 20040239857Abstract: The TFT substrate of an LCD device has an array of pixel electrodes defined by a plurality of signal lines and a plurality of scanning lines. Each terminal of the scanning lines includes a first metallic pattern, a second metallic pattern in contact with the first metallic pattern through a first via hole, and an ITO pattern in contact with the second metallic pattern through a second via hole. The ITO pattern has a width smaller than the width of the first via hole and larger than the second via hole, thereby providing the TFT substrate with a smaller level difference. The smaller level difference prevents the dust generated during a rubbing treatment from attaching onto the TFT substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2004Publication date: December 2, 2004Applicant: NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd.Inventor: Tae Yoshikawa

Patent number: 6815269Abstract: A thin-film transistor is formed by a polycrystalline silicon film having a thin-film part and a thick-film part, the thin-film part minimally being used as a channel part. The polycrystalline silicon film is formed by laser annealing with an energy density that completely melts the thin-film part but does not completely melt the thick-film part. Because large coarse crystal grains growing from the boundary between the thin-film part and the thick-film part form the channel part, it is possible to use a conventional laser annealing apparatus to easily achieve high carrier mobility and low leakage current and the like.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2003Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd.Inventor: Hiroshi Okumura
