  • Patent number: 6873377
Abstract: A dedicated control signal electrode is provided between pixel electrodes, and a strong electric field is generated between the control signal electrode and the common electrode to quickly and securely make an initial transition from liquid crystal molecules in a splay alignment state to the same in a bend alignment state. In addition, generating a strong electric field between the control signal electrode and the common electrode even during operation for displaying an image makes liquid crystal molecules stably stay in a bend alignment state. In this case the scan signal electrode, the video signal electrode and the common electrode, which are required for displaying an image, are not used to make a transition from liquid crystal molecules in a splay alignment state to the same in a bend alignment state and make the same stay in a bend alignment state.

  • Patent number: 6872512
Abstract: A method of forming a resist pattern effectively controls the manner/style and the amount of modification of a resist pattern in its reflowing process, realizing a desired resist pattern with a desired accuracy even if the deformation amount of the resist pattern is increased in the reflowing process. A second layer is formed on a first layer and then, a first resist pattern is formed on the second layer. The second layer is selectively etched using the first resist pattern as a mask. Thereafter, wettability of at least part of an exposed area of the second or first layer from the first resist pattern is adjusted, thereby forming a wettability-adjusted part. The first resist pattern is modified in such a way as to extend to the wettability-adjusted area by reflowing the first resist pattern using an organic solvent, thereby forming a second resist pattern for selectively etching the first layer or the second layer.

  • Publication number: 20050062909
Abstract: Within a reflective display section R, a part of a light that reaches a reflective electrode through a color filter exits to the outside through slits and a part of a light that reaches the reflective electrode through the slits exits to the outside through the color filter. In addition, a light reaching the reflective electrode through the color filter and exiting to the outside through the color filter, and a light having no opportunity to pass through the slits also can be observed. Therefore, a mean film thickness of color filter through which all lights pass during the time in which they travel the associated distance after they are inputted to the inside until they are outputted to the outside becomes nearly equal to that could be observed in the transmissive section T.

  • Patent number: 6862067
Abstract: An active-matrix addressing LCD device using lateral electric field realizes a higher transmittance and a higher fabrication yield and improves the aperture ratio without raising the fabrication cost. A first one of the common electrode lines, a first one of the pixel potential layers, and an intervening dielectric layer constitute a first storage capacitor for each of the pixels and at the same time, a second one of the common electrode lines, a second one of the pixel potential layers, and the intervening dielectric layer constitute a second storage capacitor for the same pixel. The first and second pixel potential layers are electrically connected to each other by way of a corresponding transparent pixel electrode. Therefore, the rotation of the liquid crystal molecules caused by applied electric field makes full contribution to the panel transmittance, preventing the obtainable total panel transmittance from lowering. This means that a higher transmittance is obtainable.
