Abstract: A sensor element, such as an accelerometer, for sensing the position and/or the movements of a vehicle body is protected by a device comprising at least two protective casings. An inner casing encloses the sensor and protects the sensor against at least contamination. At least one outer casing encloses the inner casing and sensor and further protects the sensor against at least mechanical damage and shock. The at least one outer casing is a vehicle light casing, such as a headlight or tail light casing.
Abstract: The present invention provides a manual override system for a linear magnetically operated valve assembly having a valve member reciprocally located in a valve body. A first carrier member connected to the valve member mounts a peripheral set of driven magnets. A barrier member surrounds the first carrier member and is hermetically sealed to the valve body. A second carrier member surrounds the barrier member and mounts a set of driven magnets for magnetically inducing following linear movement in the first carrier member and the valve member in response to specific linear movement of the second carrier member. The manual override system includes a piston member reciprocally located in the valve body for linear movement between the valve body and the first carrier member, the piston member having an annular skirt thereon sealingly engaging an inner bore of the valve body and defining first and second sealed chambers on respective sides thereof within the valve body.
Abstract: The compound having the formula: ##STR1## and a method of treating an inflammatory condition comprising administering to an animal in need of such treatment an effective amount of at least one compound represented by the formula.
Abstract: The method and apparatus of the present invention converts a geographically dispersed collection of transceivers into an organized packet switched network with greater utilization of each transceiver and a significant reduction in the number of central control sites as well as the elimination of a substantial number of the ground-based communication links between central control sites and their hierarchically senior data collection elements. This is accomplished by the implementation of virtual waveguides that represent deterministic data communication highways through the plurality of radio transceivers to transmit data from various sources to identified destinations.

Abstract: A hospital bed is disclosed which includes a frame, a mattress positioned on the frame, a transport sheet extending across the mattress to define a patient supporting area, rollers for moving the transport sheet relative to the mattress, and structure for progressively increasing the patient supporting area defined by the transport sheet. The bed also includes a system for elevating a portion of the mattress to progressively raise the patient from a reclining position to a standing position.
Abstract: A wastewater pretreatment tank assembly reduces the amount of solid matter on sludge in household sewage before the wastewater is introduced into a municipal sewage treatment system. Bacteria and enzymes are added to the wastewater in a first chamber where the sludge is digested. Then the wastewater spills over a weir into another chamber where ammonia is stripped. The wastewater is aerated and optionally chlorinated. The pretreatment of household sewage reduces the burden on the municipal sewage treatment facility, and reduces the risk of exceeding the capacity of the facility.
Abstract: A universally applicable cell collecting device is provided. The device has a handle and a brush head formed of flexible bristles. The bristles can be positioned such that the cross-sectional dimensions of the brush head are substantially equal in all directions. The bristles can include central bristles surrounded completely by outer bristles that are shorter and thinner than the central bristles. The bristles also can be arranged in a pattern of concentric circles and also can be arranged so that the proximal ends are spaced from one another in a predetermined array with the distal ends contacting one another in a predetermined array. The brush head also can have an outermost row of bristles having an outwardly facing surface with a radius of curvature that matches the radius of curvature of the shape of the brush head.

Abstract: Compounds with natriuretic, diuretic and/or vasodilation activity which enhance the function of an endogenous ANP are provided. These compounds are capable of both binding to the clearance receptors for ANP and of inhibition of endopeptidase 24.11, an enzyme believed responsible for ANP clearance.
Abstract: Improved timing circuits (205), charge dispensing circuits (213,215), and methods and systems (100) for operation of warewashing equipment. According to one aspect of the invention the system operates on both door and conveyor types of machines. The system dispenses both an initial charge amount and a dose amount during normal operations. In door types of systems, only a single power/signal connection (109) needs to be made to the dispensing system; in one embodiment the warewash rinse power connection. Further, the system can dispense detergent at an interval of greater than once per cycle or operation.
Abstract: Human insulin analogs are disclosed. These analogs are tissue-selective. Accordingly, pharmaceutical formulations containing the analogs of the invention provide superior clinical benefits as compared to human insulin when used in the treatment of patients suffering from diabetes. The analogs are modified at amino residue A12, A15 or A19, are different from the naturally occurring residue at said position, and are hepatoselective. Also disclosed are human insulin analogs modified at amino acid residues A12 or A14 or amino acid residues A10 and A13 different from naturally occurring residues or residues at said position or positions and are peripheral selective. DNA sequences and microorganisms comprising sequences coding for human insulin analogs are also provided. Processes for preparing the human insulin analogs are described.
Abstract: Pseudopeptide compounds based on a modified bradykinin sequence are potent bradykinin receptor antagonists. Amino acids at postions 2 through 5 are replaced by olefinic aminoalkenoyl groups to reduce the peptidic nature of the compounds. The analogs produced are useful in treating conditions and diseases of a mammal and human in which an excess of bradykinin or related kinins are produced or injected such as by insect bites.

Abstract: The complete coding sequences and amino acid sequences for both canine and human 32K alveolar surfactant proteins (ASP) are disclosed; clones encoding variants of the SP-18 and SP-5 forms of human protein are disclosed. Methods and vectors for obtaining these proteins in recombinant form are also described. An improved method for purification of the 32K protein takes advantage of its carbohydrate affinity. Pharmaceutical compositions in the treatment of respiratory deficiency syndrome use the 10K proteins with or without the 32K form. Synthetic peptides based on the human SP-5 protein are provided as well, which peptides show significant ASP activity.

Abstract: A waste container is designed to accommodate sorting of waste in a plurality of basic categories, such as recyclables, compostables, and terminal wastes. The container is constructed from a plurality of individual components which may be assembled for use. The container includes a floor supported large receptacle which supports a hollow shell having a closable lid. One or more smaller receptacles are supported within the shell overlying the larger opening. The shell and smaller receptacles are configured to provide a passageway therebetween to allow direct access to the larger receptacle without disturbing the container's assembled relationship.
