Publication number: 20200241631Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for determining the orientation of an object relative to fixed, moving or moveable platform likely to be exposed to buffeting or similar effects. The object may for example be a helmet worn by a pilot of an aircraft in which orientation of the helmet relative the aircraft while in flight may usefully be known, in particular when determining the position of space-stabilised symbols being displayed in an associated helmet-mounted digital display system. According to the method, not only may orientation of an object may be predicted at some time ahead of a time point of validity of source sensor data—a useful feature for digital display systems—but the functionality carrying out the prediction may be dynamically configured to according to a detected severity of buffeting upon the object and upon the tracker system sensors to reduce the effects of the buffeting upon the quality of data output by the tracker system.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2016Publication date: July 30, 2020Applicant: BAE SYSTEMS PLCInventors: Simon TRYTHALL, John Richard WILLIAMS, Peter Michael KNIGHT

Publication number: 20200245442Abstract: According to one embodiment, an X-ray computed tomography apparatus includes an X-ray tube, a high voltage power supply, and focus size control circuitry. The X-ray tube includes a cathode, an anode, and a deflector configured to deflect the electrons from the cathode. The high voltage power supply generates a tube voltage to be applied between the cathode and the anode. The focus size control circuitry controls a focus size formed in the anode by applying to the deflector a deflecting voltage of a deflecting voltage value based on a tube voltage value of the tube voltage and a predetermined size, in order to form a focus of the predetermined size in the anode during the period where the tube voltage is applied by the high voltage power supply.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2020Publication date: July 30, 2020Applicant: CANON MEDICAL SYSTEMS CORPORATIONInventors: Hiroshi Hirayama, Sanae Harada, Takenori Mizuno, Masahiro Karahashi

Publication number: 20200242452Abstract: A superconducting neuromorphic pipelined processor core can be used to build neural networks in hardware by providing the functionality of somas, axons, dendrites and synaptic connections. Each instance of the superconducting neuromorphic pipelined processor core can implement a programmable and scalable model of one or more biological neurons in superconducting hardware that is more efficient and biologically suggestive than existing designs. This core can be used to build a wide variety of large-scale neural networks in hardware. The biologically suggestive operation of the neuron core provides additional capabilities to the network that are difficult to implement in software-based neural networks and would be impractical using room-temperature semiconductor electronics. The superconductive electronics that make up the core enable it to perform more operations per second per watt than is possible in comparable state-of-the-art semiconductor-based designs.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2019Publication date: July 30, 2020Applicant: NORTHROP GRUMMAN SYSTEMS CORPORATIONInventor: PAUL KENTON TSCHIRHART

Publication number: 20200241104Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for determining AOA of one or more radar pulses received at a vehicle and originating from a source. The techniques are particularly well-suited to provide pilots with a more accurate determination of the azimuth angle to the radar source, although ground-based and water-based vehicles may benefit as well. Some embodiments discussed herein determine a true estimation of both azimuth and elevation angles, with reference to an aircraft's body-centered coordinate system, to the radar source. These parameters can also be used to determine a more accurate position on the ground for the radar source.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2019Publication date: July 30, 2020Applicant: BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc.Inventor: Richard Schiffmiller
