Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a method for creating a chemically structured surface with structural elements as small as 1 nm, on a material that does not itself display a high degree of ordering, using thin molecular layers that minimize the material added through the coating. In particular, the present invention discloses a method for assembling a chemical pattern on a surface, comprising pattern elements with scales that can be as small as 1 nm, and then transferring that pattern to another substrate, on which the pattern would not form natively. In the described method, the patterned monolayer is comprised of polymerizable amphiphiles such as diyne phospholipids or diynoic acids, which are transferred from the ordering substrate using a transferring material such as poly(dimethylsiloxane).

Abstract: This document relates to methods and materials for assessing and/or treating a mammal (e.g., a human) having, or at risk of developing, a spinal condition (e.g., spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)). In some cases, a mammal can be identified as having, or as being likely to develop, a spinal condition (e.g., SMA), and, optionally, can be treated. For example, a mammal can be identified as having, or as being likely to develop, a spinal condition (e.g., SMA), based, at least in part, on the modification of nucleic acid that can encode a survival motor neuron (SMN) polypeptide (e.g., homozygous deletion of exon 7 of SMN1 nucleic acid encoding a SMN polypeptide and the genomic copy number of SMN2 nucleic acid encoding a SMN polypeptide) in a sample from a mammal and, optionally, can be treated.

Abstract: A control method and a control system, by which a motor can be controlled. The control system includes a central processing module and a drive control module. In a period in which a voltage is not applied to any phase coil of the motor, the drive control module collects voltages of the coil to which the voltage is not applied, and converts the voltages of the coil into digital signals. The central processing module reads the digital signals and determines whether the running speed of the motor is consistent with a preset speed depending on whether an average value of the digital signals falls within a preset threshold range, which helps to improve the control precision.

Abstract: A differential signal processing device is described which includes an encoder configured to encode input data into one or more differential signals and a transmitter configured to sequentially transmit the one or more differential signals using a plurality of transmission lines. The encoder converts a plurality of bits, corresponding to a transmission time interval, among the input data into an encoding code array in the transmission time interval obtained by increasing an encoding unit time, encoded for each of the one or more differential signals, by an integer multiple.

Abstract: A nozzle is provided for a header conduit. The nozzle includes an inlet that is resistant to clogs caused by flat materials covering the inlet. The inlet generally includes multiple pathways to an elongated passageway through which waste liquid and sludge (“waste”) are guided and enter the header conduit. In one embodiment, the elongated passageway is oriented to guide the waste along a path that is tangential to at least the inner surface of the header conduit which such incoming waste first contacts. When the conduit has an inner surface of circular cross-section, the passageway may optionally be elongated enough that the incoming waste enters the header conduit along a path tangential to the circular surface. To better assure axial flow of the waste in the conduit to an outlet, in one embodiment the passageway provides both the tangential flow and is at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the conduit. The incoming waste is thereby provided with an axial component.
