  • Patent number: 4619182
Abstract: Powder gases issuing from the muzzle of an aircraft-mounted gun are initially deflected to one side of the line of fire by a mouthpiece in the form of a length of pipe coaxially mounted directly in front of the muzzle and having an elliptical mouth extending all across it and along it from a pointy front end of it to a short distance in front of its rear end. The gases are further deflected to a discharge direction away from sensitive parts of the aircraft by a set of guide plates arranged outside the mouthpiece and spaced apart at regular intervals along the line of fire. Inner surface portions of the guide plates, proximal to the extended axis of the gun barrel, are parallel to the direction of local gas flow out of the mouthpiece, and the guide plates are curved so that their outer surface portions, which cooperate to define slot outlets, extend in said discharge direction and are parallel to one another.

  • Patent number: 4618023
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement in a motor vehicle where a drive unit for driving the vehicle is mounted on a subframe in the vehicle. The subframe is affixed from below to carrying parts of the vehicle with the aid of attachment elements. For repair and service of larger parts such as clutch and gearbox included in the drive unit, it is normally required that the entire subframe and the drive unit are released and removed from the vehicle in order to get access to the drive unit part in question. With the object of enabling solely taking out the drive unit part which is to be repaired or serviced, it is directed in accordance with the invention that the subframe is divided into a first and a second subframe part which are mutually pivotable about a substantially horizontal axis. After undoing and/or removing the attachment elements fixing the first subframe part, this subframe part can be swung downwards to a position enabling removal of parts from the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4614129
Abstract: In an arrangement for mounting gear shift means in a gearbox, a number of selector shafts carry axially movable selector forks for operating a number of clutches for putting alternative gears in mesh while forming different gear ratios for the gearbox. An integrally implemented bearing bracket is removably attached to and enclosed in the gearbox housing and is formed with bearings for the selector shafts, so that these are at least partially carried by the bearing bracket. With the bearing bracket designed as a separate unit, the machining during manufacture and the configuration and manufacturing of the housing will be simplified, thereby reducing the risk of having to reject an entire housing due to incorrect manufacture.

  • Patent number: 4614151
Abstract: An outlet nozzle for a ventilation system, including at least one housing with a through-flow duct for ventilation air, a plate transverse the flow direction and fixed to the outlet housing, and a plurality of plates parallel to said fixed plate, these plates being mutually displaceable laterally under the action of a control lever, the plates being formed with a perforation pattern for forming in coaction ventilation ducts through which the ventilation air can flow and in response to the set position of the control lever to allow deflection of the ventilation airflow direction. The control lever is arranged to grip in each displaceable plate a grid cross comprising at least two crossing bars having a substantially circular and elliptical cross section, respectively. The control lever is preferably formed like a turning fork, with a longitudinal slot in each prong, the prongs and the slits holding the bars.

  • Patent number: 4589061
Abstract: In a system for controlling a servo actuated controlled device, an input signifying the position of displacement of an aircraft stick or similar manipulatable unit is processed to provide a variable gain to the controlled device. In a predetermined range of positions of the stick in which it is spaced to one side of neutral (or in such a range at each side of neutral) the system operates with low gain during displacement of the stick through a predetermined distance in either direction from a turning point to which the stick had been brought by displacement in the opposite direction. For all other displacements in that range the system operates with high gain. The method thus provides for fast, positive response to coarse stick movements but fine response to small trimming movements.

  • Patent number: 4585316
Abstract: An external vehicle rear view mirror comprises a mirror glass in a mirror housing and, to one side of the mirror housing, a mirror foot for attaching the rear view mirror to a vehicle body. Two vertically spaced apart supporting arms join the mirror housing to the mirror foot. Each of the supporting arms has an essentally wing-profile-shaped cross-section, and they are so oriented that they give air passing them a downwash. This reduces drag as well as dirt collection on the mirror and on a vehicle side window.

  • Patent number: 4582161
Abstract: In a remote control arrangement for a vehicle gearbox, the gearbox is mounted in a chassis frame and is controlled by a gear-change lever articulately connected, via a remote control rod, to a gear selection shaft on the gearbox. In a bus with rear-mounted engine and gearbox for example, such an arrangement includes a comparatively long remote control rod, usually mounted in the chassis frame. However, large relative movements between gearbox and chassis frame have caused disturbances in the control of the gearbox. This problem is solved by the gear selection shaft comprising two mutually articulatedly connected shafts, of which an outer shaft is connected via a spherical mounting to a support structure articulately attached to the chassis frame. Unintentional disengagement of an engaged gear is thus prevented.

  • Patent number: 4580210
Abstract: In a control system having a manipulatable unit, such as an aircraft stick, which is biased toward a neutral position to provide control "feel", an input which at each instant signifies the position of displacement of the stick from its neutral position is processed to provide an output signifying the magnitude of the biasing force to be applied to the stick. In a range of positions spaced to one side of its neutral position (or in such a range at each side of neutral) the output provides for a steep biasing force gradient as the stick is moved through a predetermined distance in either direction from a turning point to which the stick had been brought by movement in the opposite direction. For all other movements of the stick within that range the biasing force has a low gradient. The higher gradient of bias for small trimming movements provides better feel for trimming without requiring stick bias to be unduly stiff during coarser stick displacements.

  • Patent number: 4574651
Abstract: A device for individually controlling multiple control functions with one hand comprises a base member movable back and forth and a stick member mounted on the base member to move back and forth with it and swing relative to it. The base member has one portion shaped like a pistol butt, with opposite upright front and rear surfaces and a top surface, and has another column-like upright portion, spaced in front of said front surface, defining an outer side surface. In one gripping position, a hand has its palm against said rear surface, thumb and forefingers overlying the top surface, and other fingers either curled around the butt portion to actuate pushbuttons or the like on its front surface or extended for actuating pushbuttons or the like on said outer side surface.

  • Patent number: 4531080
Abstract: A controller for producing electrical control signals has a relatively stationary supporting section providing an upwardly facing hand supporting surface and an upward projection, and has a stick-like control section mounted on a first gimbal joint on top of the projection, to swing about pitch and roll axes. A second gimbal joint is spaced along the roll axis from the first one and rotates about said roll axis and about a gimbal axis parallel to the pitch axis. A gimbal ring of the first joint is rigidly connected to a gimbal member of the second joint for unison rotation about the roll axis. A second gimbal member of the second joint is caused to rotate about said gimbal axis in unison with swinging of the control section about the pitch axis by a linkage connection between them. A signal generator for each of the pitch and roll axes and a stick force generating means for each of those axes are connected with respective gimbal members of the second joint.
