Abstract: Power amplification system is disclosed. A power amplification system can include a Class-E push-pull amplifier including a transformer balun. The power amplification can further include a reactance compensation circuit coupled to the transformer balun. In some embodiments, the reactance compensation circuit is configured to reduce variation over frequency of a fundamental load impedance of the power amplification system.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a radio frequency (RF) transmission line for high performance RF applications. The RF transmission line includes a bonding layer having a bonding surface and configured to receive an RF signal, a barrier layer proximate the bonding layer, a diffusion barrier layer proximate the bonding layer and configured to prevent contaminant from entering the bonding layer, and a conductive layer proximate the diffusion barrier layer. The diffusion barrier layer has a thickness that allows the received RF signal to penetrate the diffusion barrier layer to the conductive layer. The diffusion barrier layer can be a nickel layer.

Abstract: A SAW element configured to suppress spurious emissions resulting from non-periodicity of an IDT electrode finger arrangement. In one example, the SAW element is a resonator comprising an IDT electrode including a first plurality of IDT electrode fingers connected to a first busbar and a second plurality of IDT electrode fingers connected to a second busbar, and reflectors having a plurality of reflector fingers. The pluralities of first and second IDT electrode fingers are alternatively connected to each busbar by either normal connections or reversed connections and include regions arranged by at least two different types of pitches. The normal connections are such that either the odd-numbered or even-numbered IDT electrode fingers connect to the first busbar, and the reversed connections are such that the opposite group of IDT electrode fingers connect to the first busbar.
Abstract: Configuration devices in a module. In some embodiments, a radio frequency module includes a serial bus including a first serial data line and a second serial data line. The radio-frequency module also includes a first switch coupled to a first device and a third line. The radio-frequency module further includes a module coupled to the serial bus and the first switch, the module configured to determine whether first data is detected on a first serial data line, determine whether second data is detected on a second serial data line, adjust a configuration of the first switch when the first data is detected on the first serial data line and the second data is detected on the second serial data line.
Abstract: Diversity receiver front end systems with fixed impedance matching circuits to improve signal processing. The fixed impedance matching circuits can be configured to reduce out-of-band metrics such as noise figure and/or gain for a plurality of out-of-band frequency bands while reducing or not increasing above a certain threshold an in-band metric for the associated in-band frequency band. Each of a plurality of paths through the front-end systems can include fixed impedance matching circuits that accomplish this tuning to improve performance for the front-end systems.
Abstract: A power amplification system with shared common base biasing is disclosed. A method for power amplification at a controller of a power amplification system comprising a plurality of cascode amplifier sections can include receiving a band select signal indicative of one or more frequency bands of a radio-frequency input signal to be amplified and transmitted. The method may further include biasing a common base stage of each of the plurality of cascode amplifier sections, and biasing a common emitter stage of a subset of the plurality of cascode amplifier sections.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods related to multipath bandpass filters with passband notches are provided herein. In certain configurations, a multipath bandpass filter includes multiple filter circuit branches or paths that are electrically connected in parallel with one another between an input terminal and an output terminal. The input terminal receives an input signal, and each filter circuit branch includes a downconverter that downconverts the input signal to generate a downconverted signal, a filter network that generates a filtered signal by filtering the downconverted signal, and an upconverter that upconverts the filtered signal to generate a branch output signal. The filter network includes at least one low pass filter and at least one notch filter to provide a passband with in-band notches. The branch output signals from the filter circuit branches are combined to generate an output signal at the output terminal.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for reconfigurable antenna systems are provided herein. In certain configurations, an antenna system includes an antenna element, a tuning conductor adjacent to and spaced apart from the antenna element, and a switch electrically connected between the tuning conductor and a reference voltage, such as ground. The tuning conductor is operable to load the antenna element, and the switch selectively connects the tuning conductor to the reference voltage to provide tuning to the antenna element.
Abstract: Wideband power combiners and splitters are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a power combiner/splitter is implemented with a first coil connecting a first port and a second port, and a second coil connecting a third port and a fourth port. The first coil and the second coil are inductively coupled to one another. For example, the first coil and the second coil can be formed using adjacent conductive layers of a semiconductor chip, an integrated passive device, or a laminate. The power combiner/splitter further includes a fifth port tapping a center of the first coil and a sixth port tapping a center of the second coil. The fifth port and the sixth port serve to connect capacitors and/or other impedance to the center of the coils to thereby provide wideband operation.

Abstract: A power amplifier module can include one or more switches, a coupler module, input signal pins, and a controller having first and second output terminals. The input signal pins can receive a voltage input/output signal, a clock input signal, and a data input signal. The controller can (i) set a mode of the one or more switches using a synchronous communication protocol in which the controller outputs a synchronous clock signal on the first output terminal and a data signal on the second output terminal, when the power amplifier module is in a first operating mode, or (ii) set a mode of the coupler module using an asynchronous communication protocol in which the controller outputs a first asynchronous control signal on the first output terminal and a second asynchronous control signal on the second output terminal, when the power amplifier module is in a second operating mode.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for LNAs with mid-node impedance networks are provided herein. In certain configurations, an LNA includes a mid-node impedance circuit including a resistor and a capacitor electrically connected in parallel, a cascode device electrically connected between an output terminal and the mid-node impedance circuit, and a transconductance device electrically connected between the mid-node impedance circuit and ground. The transconductance device amplifies a radio frequency signal received from an input terminal. The LNA further includes a feedback bias circuit electrically connected between the output terminal and the input terminal and operable to control an input bias voltage of the transconductance device.
