Abstract: Embodiments of the present systems and methods may provide improved capability to predict the risk of recurrence of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) conditions using whole slide image analysis based on machine learning techniques. For example, in an embodiment, a computer-implemented method for determining treatment of a patient may comprise receiving an image of living tissue of a patient, annotating the entire image into tissue structures, extracting texture features from the annotated image, determining a distribution of the extracted texture features relative to tissue conditions, classifying the patient into a risk group based on the distribution, and treating the patient accordingly based on the risk group.

Abstract: Speech analysis devices and methods for identifying migraine attacks are provided. Migraine sufferers can experience changes in speech patterns both during a migraine attack and in a pre-attack phase (e.g., a time period before the migraine attack can be recognized by the migraine sufferer). Embodiments identify or predict migraine attacks during the pre-attack phase and/or the attack phase (such as early stages of a migraine attack) by comparing speech features from one or more speech samples provided by a user against baseline data. The speech features are indicative and/or predictive of migraine onset, and can be personalized to a user and/or based on normative data.

Abstract: A sensor including a layer of amorphous selenium (a-Se) and at least one charge blocking layer is formed by depositing the charge blocking layer over a substrate prior to depositing the amorphous selenium, enabling the charge blocking layer to be formed at elevated temperatures. Such a process is not limited by the crystallization temperature of a-Se, resulting in the formation of an efficient charge blocking layer, which enables improved signal amplification of the resulting device. The sensor can be fabricated by forming first and second amorphous selenium layers over separate substrates, and then fusing the a-Se layers at a relatively low temperature.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a polarization sensor is described. It includes a quarter-wave plate to convert circularly polarized light into linearly polarized light. The quarter-wave plate is realized as a metasurface. The sensor also includes a linear polarizer to analyze the light generated by the quarter wave plate, and a photodetector to receive the analyzed light. The sensor may be combined with other linear polarization sensors to form a sensor capable of complete measurement of the polarization state of incident light.

Abstract: A vehicle control framework enables improved attitude tracking and mode switching of a vehicle by modeling the vehicle as a switched system, where the vehicle is operable for changing a geometric configuration during flight. The vehicle control framework implements a control law that accommodates modeling uncertainties and unknown external disturbances. The vehicle also enforces a switching time constrained by a minimum dwell time which can be adaptively updated based on attitude errors.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for removing trichloroethane (TCA), trichloroethene (TCE), and 1,4-dioxane (1,4-D) from contaminated liquids. The system and methods rely on catalyst reduction of TCA and TCE, where the reduced products are then degraded by microorganisms The system comprises a first reactor comprising a catalyst film of precious metal nanoparticles deposited on a first nonporous membrane and a second reactor comprising a biofilm of microorganisms that are capable of degrading ethane and 1,4-D deposited on a second nonporous membrane. The first reactor further comprises a hydrogen gas source, wherein the hydrogen gas source delivers hydrogen to the gas-phase side of the first nonporous membrane, and the catalyst film is deposited on the liquid-phase side. The second reactor further comprises an oxygen gas source, wherein the oxygen gas source delivers oxygen to the gas-phase side of the second non-porous membrane, and the biofilm is deposited on the liquid-phase side.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for forming a metal article by additive manufacturing and related apparatus for performing the method. A metal particle suspension including a UV-curable polymeric resin liquid medium, and metal particles distributed throughout the liquid medium is deposited and cured by spatially selective exposure to UV radiation in a layer-by-layer process. Metal particle size can be selected in combination with the applied layer thickness to ensure complete cure throughout the applied layer while providing a high print speed and high spatial resolution. Intermittent or periodic partial curing of an applied layer can be used to maintain a homogeneous distribution of metal particles in the applied layer prior to full curing. The final product is achieved after sintering, which removes the cured binder in a debinding step and also provides the desired final article at close to the full density.
