Patent number: 8733350Abstract: The present invention provides an improved means of treating tracheobronchitis, bronchiectasis and pneumonia in the nosocomial patient, preferably with aerosolized anti gram-positive and anti-gram negative antibiotics administered in combination or in seriatim in reliably sufficient amounts for therapeutic effect. In one aspect, the invention assures this result when aerosol is delivered into the ventilator circuit. In one embodiment the result is achieved mechanically. In another embodiment, the result is achieved by aerosol formulation. In another aspect, the invention assures the result when aerosol is delivered directly to the airways distal of the ventilator circuit. The treatment means eliminates the dosage variability that ventilator systems engender when aerosols are introduced via the ventilator circuit.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2009Date of Patent: May 27, 2014Assignee: The Research Foundation for the State University of New YorkInventors: Gerald Smaldone, Lucy B. Patent number: 8739022Abstract: A language for semi-structured documents, XML has emerged as the core of the web services architecture, and is playing crucial roles in messaging systems, databases, and document processing. However, the processing of XML documents has a reputation for poor performance, and a number of optimizations have been developed to address this performance problem from different perspectives, none of which have been entirely satisfactory. Parallel XML parsing leverages the growing prevalence of multicore architectures in all sectors of the computer market, and yields significant performance improvements. The design consists of an initial preparsing phase to determine the structure of the XML document (or other data document), followed by a full, parallel parse. The results of the preparsing phase are used to help partition the XML document for data parallel processing.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2008Date of Patent: May 27, 2014Assignee: The Research Foundation for The State University of New YorkInventors: Kenneth Chiu, Yinfei Pan

Publication number: 20140140265Abstract: L2Relay is a novel packet relay protocol for Wi-Fi networks that can improve the performance and extend the range of the network. A device running L2Relay is referred to as a relayer, which overhears the packet transmissions and retransmits a packet on behalf of the Access Point (AP) or the node if no acknowledgement is overheard. L2Relay is ubiquitously compatible with all Wi-Fi devices. L2Relay is designed to be a layer 2 solution that has direct control over many layer 2 functionalities such as carrier sense. Unique problems are solved in the design of L2Relay including link measurement, rate adaptation, and relayer selection. L2Relay was implemented in the OpenFWWF platform and compared against the baseline without a relayer as well as a commercial Wi-Fi range extender. The results show that L2Relay outperforms both compared schemes.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2013Publication date: May 22, 2014Applicant: Florida State University Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Zhenghao Zhang, Shuaiyuan Zhou

Publication number: 20140141515Abstract: Plant viral vectors have great potential in rapid production of proteins, but no simple Here a geminivirus-based system for high-yield and rapid production of oligomeric protein complexes, including virus-like particle (VLP) vaccines and monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) is described. In particular, a single vector that contains two non-competing replicons for transient expression in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves is described. The correct assembly of these subunit proteins into functional oligomeric structures (VLPs or full-size mAb) is also described. This system advances plant transient expression technology by eliminating the need for non-competing viruses, and thus, enhances the realistic commercial application of this technology for producing multiple-subunit protein complexes.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2013Publication date: May 22, 2014Applicant: Arizona Board of Regents for and on behalf of Arizona State UniversityInventors: Hugh S.
