  • Patent number: 6985264
Abstract: In a method for calibrating an engraving amplifier in an electronic engraving machine, whereby a vibration signal is used to control the engraving of an engraving element by using engraving tone values representing desired tone values ranging from “light” to “dark”, small cup shapes are engraved. The dimensions of the cup shapes define the real tone values. Transmission functions are initially determined, reproducing correlations between signal values that are adjusted in the engraving amplifier and the resulting changes in the real dimensions of the cup shapes. Sample cup shapes are engraved for predetermined desired tone values using the adjusted signal values for at least one of the parameters such as “vibration”, “light”, “dark” or “mid tone”. Differential values are obtained from real measured dimensions and the predetermined desired dimensions of the sample cup shapes, taking into account the transmission functions, whereby the differential values are used to correct the adjusted signal values.

  • Patent number: 6976700
Abstract: Apparatus (10) includes an air bag (30) and an inflator (40) for inflating the air bag. The apparatus (10) also includes a bracket (120) having an elongated back plate portion (122), a first flange portion (130), and a second flange portion (150). The flange portions (130 and 150) extend transverse to the back plate portion (122). The inflator (40) is insertable into the bracket. A first end portion (80) of the inflator (40) engages the first flange portion (130) and a second end portion (90) of the inflator engages the second flange portion (150) while the inflator is inserted in the bracket (120). The inflator (40) urges the first and second flange portions (130 and 150) to deflect away from each other while the inflator is inserted in the bracket (120). The first and second flange portions (130 and 150) are urged toward each other by resilience of the bracket and exert a clamping force on the inflator (40) to retain the inflator in the bracket (120).

  • Patent number: 6974340
Abstract: An electrical plug connector assembly includes a socket connector and a plug connector. The socket connector includes a housing within which a U-shaped contact spring physically contacts a fixed contact part to establish an electrical connection. The U-shaped contact spring is disposed horizontally within the housing, in such a way that an imagined bending axis of the U-shaped contact spring lies parallel to the plug direction. The horizontal arrangement of the U-shaped contact spring within the housing makes it possible for the socket connector to have a relatively flat structure. A preferred application of such a plug connector unit is within a mobile telephone.

  • Patent number: 6973108
Abstract: The object in an arrangement for pumping an anisotropic laser crystal is to reduce the influence of the destruction limit of the laser crystal on increased pump power density and, in this connection, to achieve improved beam quality and increased efficiency of a diode-pumped solid state laser. At the same time, the pump volume and cross-sectional area are to be kept as small as possible along a length of the crystal corresponding at least approximately to the absorption length. The arrangement operates with an asymmetric pump beam whose pump beam cross section has different dimensions perpendicular to one another and with a laser beam cross section which is adapted to this asymmetry. That axis of the crystallographic axes of the anisotropic laser crystal in whose direction the highest value of the crystal breaking limit exists is oriented along the greatest temperature gradient in the direction of the smaller dimension of the pump beam cross section.

  • Patent number: 6968217
Abstract: A telephone system for a motor vehicle includes a transmit/receive unit that transmits data over a wireless communication channel, and receives data over the wireless communication channel and provides a received signal. The system also includes a control unit that communicates with the transmit/receive unit; a first memory device; and a computing device. The computing device receives the received signal and automatically stores the received signal data in the first memory device when the telephone system is configured in a stand-by mode, which allows incoming data to be stored in the memory device while selectively preventing the transmission of outgoing calls originated by the control unit to the transmit/receive unit.
