Patent number: 5209402Abstract: A laminar flow diffuser has a plurality of round, thin, stacked plates. A central bore penetrates all the plates with the exception of the bottom plate. The diffuser is secured to the vacuum chamber port. When gas enters the port, it enters the central bore and then flows radially outward through the interplate spaces to the outer circumference of the plates and subsequently into the periphery of the chamber. The diffuser thereby provides a controlled laminar flow which prevents turbulence in the chamber and hence, reduces the possibility of contamination to the workpiece in the chamber. The laminar flow diffuser is easily cleaned, both during its initial assembly and later after use, because it chiefly has flat surfaces which do not harbor dirt or gas.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1991Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Assignee: Etec System, Inc.Inventors: Daniel B. Patent number: 5205340Abstract: A paper sleeve and system for application as an insulated riser in a sand mold used to cast metal articles is disclosed. The sleeve, preferably cylindrical, is formed from a plurality of sheets of paper wrapped around one another with, preferably, a space between the edges of each sheet to provide a plurality of spaces or openings extending through the sleeve. Each sheet is treated with a precise amount of fire retardant. The sleeve for a given time period acts as an insulator keeping metal therein liquid until the metal solidifies in the article forming cavity of the sand mold and thereafter decomposes or reduces itself to a harmless carbon ash. The sleeve can function to both feed liquid metal to the article forming cavity in a sand mold and also to supply additional liquid metal to the article cavity upon solidification of the metal therein to eliminate the need for separate risers as now required in conventional foundry practice.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1991Date of Patent: April 27, 1993Assignee: Brown Foundry System, Inc.Inventors: Robert G. Patent number: 5173184Abstract: A wastewater treatment system for treating wastewater containing undesirable pollutants which comprises a housing having a bottom and defining an internal chamber. The internal chamber is provided with a first and second baffle member which cooperate to define a mixing zone and a separation zone. Wastewater (containing a sufficient amount of air so that the air present in the wastewater exceeds the solubility of air in the wastewater) is introduced into the mixing zone of the internal chamber, and an aerated water is sprayed into the wastewater to produce a quantity of air bubbles sufficient to promote the flotation of pollutants having a density approximately equal to that of the wastewater to form a froth. Pollutants having a density substantially greater than the density of water settled to the bottom portion of the housing. An effluent reservoir assembly (which forms a reservoir zone) is spatially disposed from the second baffle member so that a quiescent zone is formed therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1990Date of Patent: December 22, 1992Assignee: Hydro Modular System, Inc.Inventor: Joseph P.
