Publication number: 20200261170Abstract: Systems and methods for performing minimally invasive surgical procedures, especially for removal of tumors, and especially for brain tumors, using a robotically inserted therapeutic probe, which first detects tumorous tissue on a pre-planned path through the patient's tissue, before performing therapeutic procedures on the tissue, such as ablation. This pre-treatment detection procedure is thus able to avoid the destruction of healthy tissue. This also ensures that the therapeutic process indicated in a preoperative surgical plan is only performed on tumorous tissue, without sole reliance on preoperative image indications. This is important for neurosurgical operations performed on the brain, since preoperative images may not be accurate due to brain shift occurring during the procedure. Detection can be performed optically or ultrasonically, and treatment by laser or RF ablation. The probe insertion can be performed at 90° to the insertion axis of the device, thus minimizing passage through healthy tissue.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 6, 2018Publication date: August 20, 2020Applicant: Technion Research & Development Foundation LimitedInventors: Hadas ZISO, David ZARROUK, Moshe SHOHAM, Menashe ZAAROOR

Publication number: 20200237442Abstract: A robotic device for performing intracranial procedures, comprising a baseplate for mounting on the subject's skull and a rotatable base element rotating on the baseplate. The rotatable base element has a central opening through which a cannulated needle can protrude such that it can rotate around an axis perpendicular to the baseplate. This cannulated needle is robotically controlled to provide motion into and out of the subject's skull. A flexible needle is disposed coaxially within the cannulated needle, and it is controlled to move into and out of a non-axial aperture in the distal part of the cannulated needle. Coordinated control of the insertion motion of the cannulated and flexible needles, and rotation of the combined cannulated/flexible needle assembly enables access to be obtained to a volume of a region of the brain having lateral dimensions substantially larger than the width of the cannulated needle.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2020Publication date: July 30, 2020Applicant: Technion Research & Development Foundation LimitedInventors: David ZARROUK, Moshe SHOHAM, Menashe ZAAROOR, Hadas ZISO

Patent number: 10708041Abstract: Apparatus and method for hashing a message, comprises using an array of individually selectable memristor cells. The memristor cells are subject to write disturb that affects cells neighboring a selected cell so that a write operation into one cell has a knock-on effect on the neighbors. The array is initiated into a known stable state so that these changes to neighboring cells are predictable according to proximity to the currently selected cell. An inserter sequentially mixes bits with the hash so far to insert bits into successively selected cells of the memristor array and forms a succession of memristor array states including the knock on effects on the neighboring cells. A final resulting memristor array state following input of the bits forms the hash of the message.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2018Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: Technion Research & Development Foundation LimitedInventors: Shahar Kvatinsky, Leonid Azriel

Patent number: 10677541Abstract: New exemplary heat exchange configurations that incorporate internal or external surfaces equipped with perturbators, for changing the thermal behavior of the system, or for modulating the surface temperature distribution of the flow surfaces. This is achieved by applying an acoustic wave to the fluid flow in a heat exchange passage, and selecting the frequency of the acoustic exciting wave to be the same as the acoustic resonance frequency of the heat exchange passage itself. As the traveling waves interact with the boundaries confining the heat exchange passages, constructive interference of the incident and reflected waves give rise to a standing wave. Thus, the heat exchange passages act as a resonator, and by superimposing this standing wave on the separating and reattaching fluid flow, significant heat transfer improvement can be achieved. This is accomplished without the need to significantly increase the pressure required to achieve the desired through flow.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2015Date of Patent: June 9, 2020Assignee: Technion Research & Development Foundation LimitedInventor: Beni Cukurel
