Patent number: 6363080Abstract: A technique for reducing or eliminating the access charges typically payable by an IXC to a LEC, and, in turn, payable by the subscriber to the IXC, for originating long distance calls by providing a hardwire connection between the IXC and the customer premises. The hardwire connection is created by purchasing analog facilities from the LEC which originate at the Central Office and connecting these facilities directly to a Central Office D4 multiplexer. The terminating end of the analog facilities are installed at the subscriber premises and terminated on a standard RJ11X four wire jack. The voice interface modules typically used in the D4 multiplexer are replaced by Foreign Exchange Subscriber (FXS) modules which perform A/D conversion of the analog voice data provided over the analog facilities from the customer premises.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1997Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: LightSource Telecom LLCInventor: Mark G. Publication number: 20020021718Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the synchronization of at least one mobile station with a base station within a mobile telecommunication network. According to the invention, it is proposed to intensify the synchronization signal at regular intervals during a short time interval called reinforced synchronization interval or RSI interval. The cycle of activity of the synchronization channel of the base station is thus increased on a time interval corresponding to the reinforced synchronization interval. This will reduce the effective time of acquisition of the synchronization signal and thereby reduce the size or number of time windows needed for this acquisition. The cycle of activity of the synchronization channel is increased by increasing the number of synchronization bursts during the RSI interval. Application to UMTS-FDD type third-generation telecommunication networks.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2001Publication date: February 21, 2002Applicant: MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC TELECOM EUROPEInventors: Samuel Kerhuel, Vincent Antoine Victor Belaiche, Nicolas Voyer

Patent number: 6347234Abstract: A practical way to enhance signal quality (carrier to interference. C/I) in both up and downlink of wireless point to multi-point CDMA service implements basic radio direction finding techniques to allow for optimal diversity combining in an antenna array employing large number of elements. This approach is facilitated through the use of very small bit counts arithmetic and capitalizing on finite alphabet signal structure (Walsh symbols, for example in IS-95 CDMA) or a known training sequence. Alternate implementations can use floating point data representations. The method facilitates ASIC implementation, thereby enabling distributed processing to achieve the required computation practicality. The method utilizes the uplink channel data to determine the downlink spatial structure (array beams) to enhance downlink C/I and hence, increase downlink capacity.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1999Date of Patent: February 12, 2002Assignees: Adaptive Telecom, Inc., Metawave Communications CorporationInventor: Shimon B. Patent number: 6344148Abstract: An easy method proposes a passive alignment by using an alignment mark. That is, V-shaped grooves are utilized as alignment marks in place of a metal pattern of the prior art in observing an optical contrast. Also, in order to adjust a height of an optical device, the support made of a metal is formed in the conventional method, whereas in the present invention a height of an optical device is adjusted by etching the silicon substrate and clamped through the use of solder bumps formed in the V-shaped grooves. And also, in this invention, it is possible that V-shaped grooves can be facilely formed on a non-planarized substrate by using a method of burying a mask material during the formation of the V-shaped grooves. By applying the above principle, the present invention proposes a process capable of passive aligning an optical device, a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) and an optical fiber, simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1999Date of Patent: February 5, 2002Assignee: Korea TelecomInventors: Soo-Jin Park, Ki-Tae Jeong, Tae-Seok Suh, Young-Bok Choi, Sang-Pil Han

Patent number: 6345047Abstract: For use at a subscriber site with a subscriber line, for simultaneously sending a telephone call from a PSTN compatible telephone terminal on the subscriber site, and IP packets from a first computer, over the subscriber line, the adaptor has a converter for converting signals from the telephone terminal into IP packets, and a multiplexer, for sending simultaneously the IP packets representing the telephone call and those from the computer, along the subscriber line. The adaptor is also arranged to handle calls without conversion to IP packets, when the subscriber telephone line is not used for carrying IP packets. Using one subscriber line, all phones in a household can remain operational, to make and receive calls, while one or more PCs are concurrently accessing online services, without needing a second line, or special equipment to increase the bandwidth transmissible over the line.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1998Date of Patent: February 5, 2002Assignee: Northern Telecom LimitedInventor: Jean Michel Regnier

Patent number: 6344851Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with the present invention display an overview of a first set of data that resides on a first server, where the first server includes a set of instructions and associated elements, for example multimedia elements, for displaying the first set of data on a display device. A web browser retrieves the set of instructions from the first server such that the associated elements remain un-retrieved by the web browser, and identifies a first set of links that link the first set of data to one another. The web browser then displays an overview, which includes a representation of the first set of data, using, for example, icons. Furthermore, the web browser identifies a second set of links that link one or more of the first set of data to a second set of data that resides on a second server, identifies electronic mail addresses that are included in the first set of data, and identifies the last modification dates associated with the first set of data.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1998Date of Patent: February 5, 2002Assignee: Northern Telecom LimitedInventors: Jobe L. Publication number: 20020012746Abstract: A vacuum deposition system has been designed to produce thin film based demultiplexers with high throughput and production yields of greater than 25% for use in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexer (DWDM) systems. The system employs a dense array of high yield fixtures and an ion assisted movable dual electron beam evaporation system. The fixture array increases acceptable yields of narrow band pass filters to 25-75% compared to less than 5% in conventional coating systems used for DWDM. The movable e-beam system allows critical symmetry to be maintained while eliminating significant delays resulting from deposition of two materials from a single electron gun. The vacuum deposition system will enable production of more than 15,000 50-200 GHZ filters which meet specifications for DWDM demultiplexers every 48 hours.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 10, 2001Publication date: January 31, 2002Applicant: Atomic TelecomInventors: Gerald T. Publication number: 20020008891Abstract: A substrate fixture has been designed, which significantly improves production yield of thin film based demultiplexer filters for use in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexer (DWDM) systems. The fixture is comprised of a small area disk capable of rotational speeds greater than 1000 rpm with a dedicated concentric thin film quartz crystal thickness monitor and “clam shell” type shutter. The fixture is intended to be used in a vacuum deposition system, designed to perform optical coatings. The high-speed rotation and location of the fixture with respect to the deposition source guarantees coating thickness uniformity on substrates attached to the disk. The concentric quartz crystal thickness monitor (QCM) calibrated to the geometry or the deposition environment guarantees accurate thickness determination over the area of the disk to within 0.01 percent.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 10, 2001Publication date: January 24, 2002Applicant: Atomic TelecomInventors: Gerald T.
