  • Patent number: 6272224
Abstract: Process and device for quantum distribution of an encryption key. According to the invention, a light beam is modulated by a signal, the phase of which can be adjusted at random. On reception, the received beam is modulated by a signal, the phase of which is also adjustable. The intensity of one of the lateral modes is measured, which depends on the difference between the two phases used. The key is distributed by the photons contained in one of the lateral modes. Application to cryptography with secret key.

  • Patent number: 6269157
Abstract: Because of technological and regulatory changes, telecommunication service is becoming more of a commodity, with competition between service providers for traffic. The herein disclosed invention stimulates this competition and facilitates a service provider's and a consumer's ability to make economic choices between competing telecommunication carriers. In this method and system, telecommunication switches route calls in accordance with economic incentives (e.g., least cost routing) resulting from a bidding process between participating telecommunication carriers (Carriers), administered by a bidding service provider through operation of a central processor, at computer referred to as a bidding moderator (Moderator). The technology required to facilitate forward delivery transactions, in which a buyer and seller agree to the terms of a transaction today but schedule actual delivery for a future time, would be helpful to end users, resellers and Carriers.

  • Patent number: 6262409
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the detection of the relative depth of two neighboring regions in relative motion with respect to each other in two images obtained from different shots of a scene, in order to know the composition of the scene. The method consists in carrying out a spatial segmentation of one of the images, called a reference image; a local estimation of the motion between the two images, the resultant vector field of which is called local motion; a determining of the motion estimation errors along the motion boundaries; and an analysis of the localization of the motion estimation errors along the motion boundaries to conclude that a region A is in front of a region B when the motion estimation error along the boundary is chiefly localized on the side B of this boundary.

  • Patent number: 6263035
Abstract: A system for adjusting a phase angle of a recovered data clock signal from a received data signal includes a plurality of counters and a phase state machine. Each counter within the plurality of counters determines a number of samples having a logical one (1) value within a particular portion of a period of the received data signal. Each counter then compares the number to a predetermined threshold value. Each counter transmits a signal indicating whether the number of samples having a logical one (1) for each portion of received data signal's period is greater than, is less than, or is equal to the predetermined threshold. The phase state machine receives the signals transmitted by each counter and adjusts the phase angle of the recovered data clock signal based on the signals received from each counter.

  • Patent number: 6262972
Abstract: A digital communication trunk employing digital discrete multitone communication over twisted pair copper network segments to increase the effective bandwidth therethrough. Each central office includes an end unit to connect to the network segments and digital discrete multitone repeaters are employed throughout the trunk at defined distances to maintain signal quality. A multiplexer can be employed at the central offices to combine multiple baseband signals before transmission and to extract those multiple signals after reception. In one embodiment of the present invention, four T1 rate baseband signals are combined by the multiplexer into a single signal which is transmitted at T2 rates through the trunk.

  • Patent number: 6258404
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and a device for depositing at least one thin film of a liquid agent on a wireframe element such as an optical fiber designed to form a very fine coating on said wireframe element consisting in spraying the liquid agent on the wireframe element with spraying means, the wireframe element and the spraying means being in relative movement with respect to each other. Preferably, the liquid agent used is obtained from novel acrylphosphorus or metacrylphosphorus compounds. The method is most particularly adapted for coating optical fibers and enables to substantially improve the stress corrosion factor “n” of the fibers and to maintain said factor “n” after aging.

  • Patent number: 6259686
Abstract: The network allows communications at various bit rates, with signals transmitted in successive frames each divided into elementary timeslots which can be used for different communications. A frequency band is allocated to communications between base stations of a group of cells and mobile stations. This band is subdivided into blocks of width 2M−1×B0, where B0 is a predefined spectral width and M an integer greater than 1 chosen as a function of a maximum communication bit rate. Each of the blocks is divided into carriers of width 2m(i)−1×B0, m(i) being an integer dependent on the relevant block such that 1≦m(i)≦M. The partition of the blocks and of the carriers within the allocated frequency band is identical for all the cells of the group. To support a communication in one of the cells, a logic channel is selected, defined, depending on the bit rate required, as one or more timeslots on one of the carriers.

  • Patent number: 6259923
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for providing cell location service in digital mobile communication network, without additional device for cell location service. The cell location center requests that a mobile station provide current location of the mobile station. Then, the mobile station transfers the base station identification currently communicating with the mobile station. The cell location center finds the location of the mobile station using the base station identification which is uniquely defined in the mobile communication network.
