  • Patent number: 6233250
Abstract: An ADSL physical transmission layer retrieves data to be transmitted from either a transmit data buffer, or a dummy cell buffer in the case when no actual data is being transmitted to maintain a continuous data stream in an ADSL data link. The ADSL physical transmission layer and an associated ATM protocol layer are implemented as an interrupt service routine and delayed procedure call respectively in an ADSL software modem application. Because the ATM protocol layer does not fill the transmit data buffer with dummy cell data, it is simpler and faster. Moreover, latency is minimized, and overall system throughput enhanced since the maximum latency is independent of any operating system latency, and is no greater than the size of the cell stored in the dummy cell buffer.

  • Patent number: 6230031
Abstract: A system for amplifying output transmitted power of a mobile battery powered radio transceiver includes a secondary voltage source, multiple power amplifiers, a central processing unit to control the amplification of the output transmitted signal, and a switch to detect the presence of the radio transceiver. The system includes a method for compensating for the signal loses associated with cabling used in the installation of the amplifying circuitry in an automobile application. According to the first preferred embodiment of the present invention, the method for compensating for signal losses is a manually configured bank of switches. When the amplifying circuitry is installed in the automobile application, the bank of switches is set to specify the amount of loss compensation needed. Multiple amplifiers are used for amplification of the output transmitted signal when the radio transceiver is operating at different frequencies.

  • Patent number: 6226516
Abstract: A terminal coupled to an intelligent telecommunication network may invoke dynamically modifiable subscriber services by transmitting information to a switch to which script files, each containing programming script needed to initiate a calling feature or other advanced subscriber service and a criteria statement used for triggering execution of the programming script, were downloaded thereto from a home location register where the script files may be added, deleted or otherwise modified by a system administrator. A program execution module residing at the switch compares the received information to the criteria statement for each script file downloaded thereto and executes the programming script of the script file having a criteria statement which matches the received string of digits. In wireless systems, the script files are downloaded to an MSC whenever a roaming terminal registers therewith.

  • Patent number: 6222888
Abstract: A circuit and method that optimizes a set up time and control of bit and energy loadings of data sub-channels in a multi-channel data transmission signal is disclosed. A time out period, or an iteration count are used to control a setup time. An initialization routine attempts to make appropriate loadings within such time out period or within an iteration count parameter. If it is unable to do so, a handoff is made to a second routine to complete the loadings. In a preferred embodiment the initialization routine calculates rough parameters, while the second routine finalizes the capacity calculations. Another aspect of the invention ensures that the initialization routine can be repeated at a later time to re-compute appropriate bit and energy loadings to ensure that significant changes caused by line disturbances or large data rate variations can be quickly accommodated.

  • Patent number: 6223157
Abstract: Digital Cellular telephony requires voice compression designed to minimize the bandwidth required for the digital cellular channel. The features used in speech recognition have similar components to those used in the vocoding process. The present invention provides a system that bypasses the de-compression or decoding phase of the vocoding and converts the digital cellular parameters directly into features that can be processed by a recognition engine. More specifically, the present invention provides a system and method for mapping a vocoded representation of parameters defining speech components, which in turn define a particular waveform, into a base feature type representation of parameters defining speech components (e.g. LPC parameters), which in turn define the same digital waveform.

  • Patent number: 6215451
Abstract: A dual-band glass-mounted antenna system includes a dual-band through-the-glass coupler, a matching section, and a dual-band collinear antenna element. The coupler has a portion which is secured to an interior surface of the glass, and a portion which is secured to the exterior surface of the glass at a position opposite the interior portion. Co-planer transmission line circuitry in the interior and exterior portions of the coupler cooperatively form a four-conductor transmission line operating in the “coupled microstrip line odd mode,” thereby achieving coupling of RF energy through the glass window material in two disparate frequency bands. The transmission line characteristics are selected to achieve efficient coupling and desired impedance characteristics in the cellular and PCS frequency bands. The dual-band antenna element includes upper and lower radiator sections separated by a phasing coil.

  • Patent number: 6208615
Abstract: A number of user IDs are assigned to each wireless device. The number of user IDs required is based on the type of information transmitted (e.g., video, voice, or data). The user ID's generate the orthogonal Walsh codes used to cover a data signal to be transmitted. Each Walsh code is 2n-bits in length and the memory size is 2n×2n where n is the number of bits in the Walsh code. Each unique user ID addresses a memory to generate a unique Walsh code corresponding only to that user ID. The orthogonal codes output from the memory cover the information to be transmitted. This results in the transmitted signal being orthogonal to other users and also orthogonal within the transmitting user's own signal bursts.
