Patent number: 7260482Abstract: A method for characterizing a suspension with particles floating therein, which method comprises the steps of generating an acoustic actuation signal and registering an acoustic reflected signal. Further, a first dataset is calculated on the basis of the reflected signal, the dataset containing information which represents an autocorrelation function as a function of time of the reflected signal. Thereupon, first datasets are combined into a second, cumulated dataset, which represents a sum of the autocorrelation functions which correspond with the first datasets. Finally, a representation of a particle size distribution is determined by solving this representation from an expression for the second, cumulated dataset in terms of the representation of a particle size distribution.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2003Date of Patent: August 21, 2007Assignee: Nederlandse Organisatie Voor Toegepast-Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TnoInventors: Arno Willem Frederik Volker, Frédérique José Paul Christian Marie Ghislain Verhelst, Rolf Willem Bartstra

Patent number: 7255732Abstract: Starch can be gelatinised more efficiently by a thermomechanical treatment, if a dialdehyde polysaccharide with a relatively low degree of oxidation is added to the starch. This thermomechanical treatment can be carried out at a temperature below 115 DEG C., or even below 100 DEG C., and with a high throughput rate. With this treatment a granulate or other semi-finished product is obtained that can be shaped to produce an article that has excellent dimensional stability in water. By adding dialdehyde polysaccharide with a low degree of oxidation to starch it is possible to blow transparent films based on thermoplastic starch which have improved mechanical properties.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2003Date of Patent: August 14, 2007Assignee: Nederlandse Organisatie Voor Toegepast-Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TnoInventors: Sabine Fischer, Eric G. Publication number: 20070158874Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a plastic product, wherein a reinforcement package (2) is placed against a molding wall (1), an air extraction and a supply (5) for liquid plastic material (6) are installed, and the reinforcement package is covered by an air-tight covering (3), on which, non-detachably, channel parts (7) are fixed. The pressure in the reinforcement package is adjusted to a value d1, lower than the ambient pressure, after which the pressure within the channel parts is adjusted to a value d2, lower than d1, so that runner channels are formed on the reinforcement package. After the liquid plastic material has soaked the reinforcement package to a sufficient extent, the pressure in the channel parts is adjusted to a value d3, greater than d1, so that the runner channels are pushed away. After curing of the plastic material, the air-tight covering—if desired reusable and premodeled—and the channel parts connected therewith are released.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2004Publication date: July 12, 2007Applicant: Nederlands Organisatie Voor Toegepastnatuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TNOInventor: Edwin Cornelus van Herpt

Publication number: 20070119262Abstract: With a Coriolis mass flow meter a mass flow through a pipe is determined by exerting a force and/or moment on at least one location on the pipe, such that vibrations of several vibration modes are excited. The magnitude is determined of the force and/or the moment with which the pipe is excited. The response of the pipe is measured at multiple locations between two clamping points of the pipes, at excitations with several different frequencies. The sensitivity of the response to the mass flow is calculated on the basis of a model which comprises as free parameters the mass flow and model parameters which determine the sensitivity, wherein the mass flow and the model parameters are estimated that correspond with the combination of the force and/or the moment and the response measured for the different frequencies.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2004Publication date: May 31, 2007Applicant: Nederlands Organisatie voor toegepast- natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TNOInventor: Rolf Bartstra

Publication number: 20070091301Abstract: On the basis of a series of reflection measurements on a liquid, parameters are calculated which describe a particle size distribution of particles in the liquid. In each reflection measurement, a signal beam is generated in the liquid and a value of a property such as the amplitude of a reflection on a particle in the signal beam is measured. Using maximum likelihood estimation, the parameters of the particle size distribution are estimated, on the basis of an expression for a probability of the measured values as a function of the measured values. The expression used contains a first factor for the probability of a reflection measurement of which a reflection with the measured value forms part, corrected with a second factor for the probability that there is not also a reflection with a dominating value of the property, which would mask the measured values, forming part of the reflection measurement.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 9, 2004Publication date: April 26, 2007Applicant: Nederlandse Organisatie voor toegepast- natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TNOInventor: Arno Volker
