Patent number: 6709592Abstract: The invention relates to a process for removal of sulfur compounds from wastewater, which process provides recovery of elemental sulfur. The process is carried out in two separate anaerobic reactors. In the first reactor organic compounds are converted to acid compounds and sulfur compounds are converted to sulfide compounds. The sulfide compounds are stripped from said first reactor with a stripping gas. Subsequently, the effluent of the first reactor is fed to a second anaerobic reactor, in which organic compounds, such as the acid compounds, are converted to produce biogas, while any unconverted sulfur compounds from the previous step are converted to sulfide compounds as well. Finally, the sulfide compounds are removed from the second reactor in a stripping system, and converted to elemental sulfur in an adsorber.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2002Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Nederlandse Organisatie Voor Toegepast - Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TnoInventors: Johannes Wouterus van Groenestijn, Josephus Sychbertus Adrianus Langerwerf

Patent number: 6675661Abstract: A device for measuring the volume flow of a fluid in a pipe comprises at least two objects to be arranged in the pipe. By means of sensors, the frequencies can be determined with which vortices occur which arise behind the respective objects upon the fluid flowing round the objects. The objects are of so different a shape and/or diameter that at least one of the vortex frequencies thereby determined is independent of a pulsation frequency possibly arising in the approach velocity of the fluid. A sensor is present for determining this pulsation frequency, while further means are present for determining the approach velocity from that vortex frequency or those vortex frequencies for which it holds that the ratio between the vortex frequency and the pulsation frequency lies outside an interval (0.4, 2.5).Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2001Date of Patent: January 13, 2004Assignee: Nederlandse Organisatie voor toegepast-natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TNOInventor: Marinus Carolus Adrianus Maria Peters

Patent number: 6581374Abstract: A diesel powered vehicle is provided with an SCR system which uses an external reducing reagent to convert NOx emissions in a manner which accounts for the effects of NOx transient emissions on the reducing catalyst. Actual NOx emissions produced by the engine are filtered using a variable NOx time constant in turn correlated to the reductant/NOx storage capacity of the reducing catalyst at its current temperature to account for changes in the SCR system attributed to NOx transient emissions. Catalyst temperature is filtered using a variable catalyst time constant corresponding to current space velocity of the exhaust gas to account for changes in the catalyst temperature attributed to NOx transient emissions. The reductant is metered on the basis of the filtered, corrected NOx concentration applied at a NSR ratio based, in turn, on the filtered, corrected reducing catalyst temperature.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2002Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignees: Engelhard Corporation, TNO AutomotiveInventors: Joseph A.
