Abstract: An improved process is provided for the preparation of the dimer, 2,2-paracyclophane, which is useful as the starting material for parylene conformal coatings used in the electronics industry for the protection of various sensitive electronic components.The process comprises optimization of the normally low yield of dimer formed by the Hofmann elimination reaction of p-methylbenzyltrimethylammonium halide by conducting the elimination reaction in the presence of dimethysulfoxide and certain reaction promoters.
Abstract: This invention relates to the manufacture of high-purity polycrystalline silicon rods by the pyrolysis of silane. More specifically, the present invention relates to an improved method for pyrolyzing monosilane to form high-quality polycrystalline rods of uniform diameter and to an improved pyrolysis reactor system for forming high-quality polycrystalline silicon rods of uniform diameter at high production rates.

Abstract: This invention is a method for agglomerating mineral ore concentrate comprising the commongling of mineral ore concentrate with a binding amount of a water soluble, high molecular weight polymer. The selected polymer is applied to the mineral ore concentrate either (1) as a dispersion in a non-aqueous medium or (2) as a dry powder. The most preferred polymers are water soluble poly(acrylamide) based polymers.

Abstract: A mineral-filled thermoplastic composition is disclosed which comprises polyethylene or an ethylene-vinyl acetate compolymer; a mineral filler consisting, in the case of polyethylene, of aluminum trihydrate, magnesium hydrate, calcium carbonate or calcium/magnesium carbonates, and, in the case of the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, barium titanite or neodymium titanate; and, in the case of polyethylene, an impact promoter consisting of tri(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate, isostearic acid or dodecylpyridinium salts, the selection of the impact promoter being dependent upon the mineral filler being employed, and, in the case of the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, an amount of isostearic acid sufficient to increase the ductility of the composition; also disclosed is an additive composition for a thermoplastic composition which comprises a hydrophobic agent and an impact promoter.
