Abstract: Virtual humans exhibit behaviors associated with inputs and outputs of an autonomous control system for medical monitoring of patients. To foster the awareness and trust, the virtual humans exhibit situational awareness via apparent (e.g., rendered) behaviors based on inputs such as physiological vital signs. The virtual humans also exhibit situational control via apparent behaviors associated with outputs such as direct control of devices, functions of control, actions based on high-level goals, and the optional use of virtual versions of conventional physical controls. A dynamic virtual human who continually exhibits awareness of the system state and relevant contextual circumstances, along with the ability to directly control the system, is used to reduce negative feelings associated with the system such as uncertainty, concern, stress, or anxiety on the part of real human patients.

Abstract: Described herein are methods and compositions for genomic editing. Endonucleases for genomic editing involve inducing breaks in double stranded DNA, for which knock-ins are notoriously inefficient for relying on random integration of homologous DNA sequences into the break site by repair proteins. To address these issues, described herein are novel recombinant fusion proteins that actively recruit linear DNA inserts in closer proximity to the genomic cleavage site, increasing integration efficiency of large DNA fragments into the genome. Such improvements to genomic editing technology allow one to use lower linear DNA concentrations without sacrificing efficiency and can be further combined with other features, such as fluorescent protein reporting systems.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a lignite char supported nano-cobalt composite catalyst and a preparation method thereof. In the method, lignite is used as a raw material, and a lignite char supported high dispersion nano-cobalt composite catalyst is obtained by a modified impregnation method followed by a high temperature pyrolysis process. The composite catalyst prepared by the present disclosure has a hierarchical pore structure, a high specific surface area, and uniformly dispersing nano-sized cobalts on the lignite char with controllable particle size, so that the obtained catalyst has an excellent catalytic activity for low-temperature CO2 methanation; moreover, the preparation process is simple and feasible, the raw materials used are cheap and easily available. Therefore, the composite catalyst is very suitable for industrial production and application.

Abstract: A reactor system for decomposing at least one of a per- or polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) is provided. The system includes a material having an interior surface that defines a compartment; a subaqueous liquid in the compartment; and an electron donor in the subaqueous liquid, the electron donor configured to release a hydrated electron upon ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The reactor system is configured so that when the electron donor releases a hydrated electron into the subaqueous liquid, the hydrated electron has a longer lifespan relative to an electron released in normal bulk phase water, and when a PFAS is present within the subaqueous liquid, the hydrated electron is capable of reductively defluorinating the PFAS and to generate fluoride ions (F). A method of operating the system to decompose PFAS is also provided.

Abstract: A frequency domain feedforward compensation method based on a power exponential method for a seismic simulation shaking table is provided. According to the method, a frequency domain amplitude transfer function of a system is identified, the frequency domain amplitude transfer function is modified by adjusting the power and limiting an amplitude, then an inverse frequency domain amplitude transfer function is obtained, an amplitude and a phase of a driving acceleration signal are computed, finally a time domain driving acceleration signal is obtained by using the Euler's formula for computation in a complex domain and conducting inverse Fourier transform, the shaking table is driven again to collect an acceleration signal output by a table top, whether the acceleration signal meets a shaking table test waveform use requirement is determined, a test is finished under the condition that the acceleration signal meets the shaking table test waveform use requirement.
