    Abstract: A bistable cholesteric liquid crystal switchable window has two stable states in the absence of an applied voltage. A first stable state is a planar state which is transparent or reflective for visible light. A second stable state is a focal conic state which is opaque for visible light. The window can be switched from the first stable state to the second stable state via a first voltage pulse and from the second stable state to the first stable state via a second voltage pulse. The first voltage pulse and the second voltage pulse may have the same frequency.

    Abstract: A split roller cone and polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) composite drill bit, including a PDC bit module, a split roller cone bit module, and a drill bit body module. The split roller cone bit module has split structure, and during the operation, the lower roller cone body and the upper roller cone body revolve with the drill bit, and rotate around the axle neck of the palm respectively, thereby achieving the task of scraping and breaking rocks. The tooth scraping efficiencies of the small-end ring gear and the middle ring gear are improved. The split roller cone bit module, the PDC bit module, and the drill bit body module can be mass-produced.

    Abstract: A novel type of water-soluble isatin derivatives, and manufacturing method and application thereof. An isatin derivative comprising a phenolic hydroxy group is used as the substrates. A dimethylaminomethylene group is introduced to an ortho position of the phenolic hydroxy group to significantly improve the water solubility of a class of compounds provided by the invention. An antitumor activity study showed that the activity of the class of compounds was not reduced, and even improved. The class of compounds has great prospects for applications in developing an antitumor pharmaceutical product.

    Abstract: Recombinant transforming growth factor (TGF)-? monomers modified to inhibit dimerization and block TGF-? signaling are described. The recombinant TGF-? monomers lack the ability to bind and recruit TGF-? type I receptor (T?R1), but retain the capacity to bind the high affinity TGF-? type II receptor (T?RII), and in some instances, include mutations that increase their affinity for T?RII. Nucleic acid molecules and vectors encoding the recombinant TGF-? monomers are also described. Isolated cells, such as T cells, can be re-programmed with a TGF-? monomer-encoding nucleic acid or vector to secrete the monomer. Use of the recombinant TGF-? monomers and/or cells producing the recombinant TGF-? monomers, to inhibit TGF-? signaling, such as to treat disorders associated with aberrant TGF-? signaling, are also described.

    Abstract: Provided herein are novel materials and methods for site-specific incorporation of phosphotyrosines into proteins. The novel methods of the invention encompass the use of a novel aminoacyl tRNA synthetase capable of charging compatible tRNAs with a phosphotyrosine precursor. The phosphotyrosine precursor is then incorporated, site-specifically, into a protein at sites where phosphotyrosine residues are desired. The phosphotyrosine precursors are subsequently treated to convert them into phosphotyrosine residues, yielding proteins with phosphotyrosines at selected sites. The scope of the invention encompasses novel aminoacyl tRNA synthetases, novel phosphotyrosine precursors, and methods of using these materials to create site-specific phosphorylated tyrosine residues in a protein.

    Abstract: Multi-resonant control of a 3 degree-of-freedom (heave-pitch-surge) wave energy converter enables energy capture that can be in the order of three times the energy capture of a heave-only wave energy converter. The invention uses a time domain feedback control strategy that is optimal based on the criteria of complex conjugate control. The multi-resonant control can also be used to shift the harvested energy from one of the coupled modes to another, enabling the elimination of one of the actuators otherwise required in a 3 degree-of-freedom wave energy converter. This feedback control strategy does not require wave prediction; it only requires the measurement of the buoy position and velocity.

A permeation barrier layer is positioned between the OLED stack and the backplane, and a plurality of vias connect the OLED anode layer to the backplane thin film transistor array. In one embodiment, a neutral plane of the AMOLED display crosses the permeation barrier. In one embodiment, the thickness of at least a portion of the bus lines is greater than the thickness of the cathode layer. A method of increasing the flexibility of an AMOLED display is disclosed. A method of assembling a flexible AMOLED display under a processing temperature of less than 200 degrees Celsius is also disclosed.
