Abstract: Disclosed is a targeted delivery system for a hydrophobic antitumor drug, referring to conjugates of E-selectin polypeptide ligand-polyethylene glycol-antitumor drug connected by different link bridges containing disulfide bonds. The synthesis of the conjugates, antitumor activity evaluation, the particle size and morphology characteristics of nanoparticles self-assembled by the conjugates in an aqueous solution, and the release of the antitumor drug in different conditions are comprised. The conjugates can actively target at vessels of a tumor site by the E-selectin peptide ligand, and can also self-assemble into nanoparticles in an aqueous solution, so as to be passively targeted at the tumor site by EPR effect.

Abstract: A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) sensor includes a substrate having a piezoelectric layer thereon; a MEMS piezoelectric resonator including a reference electrode on a first side of the piezoelectric layer, a first port (port 1) including a capacitor coupling electrode on a side of the piezoelectric layer opposite the first side, and a second port (port 2) for excitation signal coupling including another electrode on the side opposite the first side. The MEMS piezoelectric resonator has a natural resonant frequency. A variable capacitor on the substrate is positioned lateral to the MEMS piezoelectric resonator having a first and a second plate are connected to port 1. An antenna or an oscillator circuit is connected to port 2. Responsive to a physical parameter a capacitance of the variable capacitor changes which changes a frequency of the MEMS piezoelectric resonator relative to the natural resonant frequency to generate a frequency shift.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for reducing the complexity of bio-crudes. The method includes (a) obtaining experimental data of quantitative and qualitative analyses for the bio-crudes, (b) grouping compounds contained in the bio-crudes according to a predetermined basis based on the experimental data, (c) selecting representative compounds from among the compounds belonging to the same group, and (d) reconstituting the bio-crudes as a mixture of the representative compounds. In the method for reducing the complexity of the bio-crudes for process simulation according to the present invention, the number of constituent compounds of the bio-crudes is minimized and the physical properties of the bio-crudes are accurately represented using only experimental data obtained through GC-MS, thereby enabling accurate and efficient process simulation of the bio-crudes.

Abstract: A biological model creation apparatus sets a plurality of control points respectively corresponding to a plurality of target points set on a plurality of valve annuli of a specified heart, on a plurality of valve annuli in a mesh model of a heart. Then, the biological model creation apparatus determines the positions of the control points in the mesh model on the basis of a first and second evaluation value regarding the positions of the plurality of control points. The first evaluation value indicates a degree of matching to relative positions among target points belonging to the same valve annulus. The second evaluation value indicates a degree of matching to relative positions among target points belonging to different valve annuli. Then, the biological model creation apparatus deforms the mesh model such that the positions of the plurality of control points coincide with the positions of their corresponding target points.

Abstract: A microfluidic flow restrictor that uses micron-sized beads to impede flow is described. The flow rate can be adjusted by adding or removing the beads using injection needles through self-sealing ports, one injection needle injecting or aspirating beads and another injection needle pushing or pulling fluid from outside of a bead trap within the flow restrictor. In alternative embodiments, the beads or other filler material can be trapped in a manifold bead trap such that they block a subset of fluid channels of the flow restrictor, allowing fluid to flow freely through the rest of the fluid channels. The flow restrictor can be integrated with a contact lens or implantable medical device for use in dispensing liquid therapeutic agents at flow rates of microliters per minute or moving body fluids at a controlled rate from one part of the body to another.
