Abstract: The methods described herein are based on the discovery that the plasma level of a panel of specific proteins differs between two subject populations: 1) subjects at risk for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (“COPD”) but not manifesting clinical symptoms of COPD; and 2) subjects having very severe COPD. The difference in plasma levels is statistically significant for each protein. The identification of these proteins thus facilitates susceptibility detection, early disease detection, disease severity assessment, disease progression monitoring, and therapy efficacy monitoring.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides targeting peptides and vectors containing a sequence that encodes targetting peptides that deliver agents, to the eye. The present inventors have discovered peptides that function to target agents, such as viral vectors, to ocular cells. The present disclosure describes a method to utilize these novel peptides to direct, for example, viral capsids to the cell type of interest. In this instance, ocular cells (such as retinal cells) are targeted by the identified peptides. Vectors harboring capsid proteins modified to include such peptides can be used to provide therapeutic agents to the eye.

Abstract: A DC-to-AC inverter provides an AC voltage to the primary winding of an output isolation transformer having at least one secondary winding. An AC output voltage from the secondary winding is rectified to generate a DC voltage, which is applied to a load. The magnitude of a current flowing through the load is sensed and compared to a reference magnitude to produce a feedback signal. The feedback signal controls a voltage superposition circuit, which produces a superposition voltage. The superposition voltage is applied to an input node of a current control circuit. The current control circuit responds to the superposition voltage to vary a magnitude of a control current to a switching controller in the DC to-AC inverter. The switching controller is responsive to the control current magnitude to vary the frequency of the AC voltage and to thereby vary the load current.
Abstract: Methods and systems for predicting deformation error and compensating for shape deviation in Additive Manufacturing (AM) techniques include, in one aspect, a method including: obtaining a deformation model for an AM machine; predicting deformation for the object using the deformation model applied to the 3D model; selecting an amount of deformation compensation to effect by minimizing deviation for the predicted deformation; and providing the selected amount of deformation compensation to modify the 3D model to compensate for deformation during creation by the AM machine.
Abstract: A system for detecting gas leaks and determining their location and size. A data gathering portion of the system utilizes a hub and spoke configuration to collect path-integrated spectroscopic data over multiple open paths around an area. A processing portion of the system applies a high-resolution transport model together with meteorological data of the area to generate an influence function of possible leak locations on gas detector measurement paths, and applies an inversion model to the influence function and the spectroscopic data to generate gas source size and location.

Abstract: A monitoring system comprises sensors adapted to be worn by a user, and, a processor linked with the sensor. The processor receives sensor data and processes this data to determine user posture data including data indicative of vertical distance between level of the user's heart and ankle. Based on the posture data together with a value for degree of user chronic venous insufficiency and/or blood density, generate an estimate of user static venous pressure while the user is static, without calf muscle pump activity. The processor also processes the sensor data to determine if there is calf muscle pump activity, and generates an estimate of user active venous pressure according to the static venous pressure estimate, rate of calf muscle activity, and a value for degree of user chronic venous insufficiency. The processor may generate the venous pressure estimate in real time, and may control an NMES device accordingly.
