  • Patent number: 9635147
Abstract: A protocol for transmitting data from an external device to an electronic device is provided in which the external device transmits a data stream which includes the same data packet repeated multiple times. The data packet has a predetermined length and has a header portion at a predetermined position. A receiver at the electronic device captures a block of data having the predetermined length from the transmitted data stream, and a decoder rotates the captured block of data to place the header portion at the predetermined position within the data packet. This eliminates the need for an accurate jitter-free clock reference at the electronic device. By shifting power consumption and system complexity to the external unit where power is typically not constrained, the energy efficiency of the electronic device can be increased.

  • Patent number: 9629650
Abstract: A laparoscopy tool includes a sheath and a control wire slideably disposed within a lumen of the sheath. The sheath has a diameter of less than 1.6 mm and is introduced through an abdominal incision. A handle axially displaces the control wire within the lumen and operates a conventional tip with wire-controlled opposing jaws that is introduced through the umbilicus and has a bore formed in its trailing end. A first set of blades in the bore engage grooves formed in the leading end of the control wire and a second set of blades engages the sheath to prevent sheath retraction. A cam displaces the second set of blades away from the sheath for sheath introduction and removal, and toward the sheath to prevent sheath retraction. The tip is removed through the umbilicus and the tool is removed through the abdominal incision when the surgery is completed.

  • Patent number: 9630161
Abstract: Methods and assemblies for the construction of liquid-phase alloy nanoparticles are presented. Particle formation is directed by molecular self-assembly and assisted by sonication. In some embodiments, eutectic gallium-indium (EGaIn) nanoparticles are formed. In these embodiments, the bulk liquid alloy is ultrasonically dispersed, fast thiolate self-assembly at the EGaIn interface protects the material against oxidation. The assembly shell has been designed to include intermolecular hydrogen bonds, which induce surface strain, assisting in cleavage of the alloy particles to the nanoscale. X-ray diffraction and TEM analyses reveal that the nanoscale particles are in an amorphous or liquid phase, with no observed faceting.

  • Patent number: 9629888
Abstract: This invention describes a novel composition of matter describing a complex comprising leaf protein and a lipophilic substance(s), along with the method of producing it. Delivery of lipid-soluble materials into the body is challenging because they are generally highly insoluble in water and very subject to oxidative degradation. The inventors have found that leaf protein—the water-soluble proteins derived from plant leaves—can efficiently form a complex with lipophilic materials. This leaf protein—lipid-soluble material complex is an effective carrier of lipophilic substances. As such, the leaf protein—lipid-soluble material complex disclosed herein can be used for the delivery of lipophilic vitamins, fatty acids, caretenoids, lipophilic drugs, and other lipophilic materials. This complex can be used to deliver lipophiles in foods, nutritional and dietary supplements, topical compositions and in pharmaceutical products.

  • Patent number: 9632866
Abstract: Systems and Methods are provided for increasing the number of writes to a page of non-volatile memory before the page must be erased. According to an embodiment, instead of writing a dataword directly to memory, a codeword is written to the memory location. The codeword is selected to minimize overwrite (e.g., bit-flipping) and to maximize the spread of wear across memory cells. In accordance with various embodiments of the invention, coset coding is integrated with error correction encoding; and once the previous state of a page is determined, a coset representative is selected on the basis of maximizing the number of writes to the page before erasing.
