Publication number: 20170054096Abstract: Conjugated polymer-based organic field-effect transistors have garnered attention since the solution processability of the semiconductor material raises the possibility of lower device fabrication costs, and considerable progress has been made on achieving high mobility systems. Further improvements in charge carrier mobility while using non-specialized deposition techniques and minimizing the volume of semiconductor used in the fabrication process are important considerations for practical implementation. Here, a method of fabricating devices is disclosed that uses a technique (for example, a scalable blade-coating technique) to cast polymer thin film devices from blend solutions with one component being the polymer semiconductor and the other being a commodity polymer. Even when mixing the semiconducting polymer with 90% polystyrene by weight, an average mobility of 2.7±0.4 cm2V?1s?1 can be obtained.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2016Publication date: February 23, 2017Applicant: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Michael J. Publication number: 20170054693Abstract: The integrity verification system includes a client and an RCE server. The client requests an RCE service to the RCE server using a pointer of a return function as a parameter of a service call function and transmits a memory code of the return function to the RCE server when Reverse-RCE for obtaining the memory code of the return function is requested from the RCE server. The RCE server generates a first hash key of the transmitted memory code, compares the first hash key to a stored second hash key of the memory code of an original return function, generates a return value according to a compared result between the first hash key and the second hash key and transmits the generated return value to the client using the generated return value as a parameter of the service call function. The client executes the return function using the return value as a parameter of the return function.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2016Publication date: February 23, 2017Applicants: Ksign Co., Ltd., Soongsil University Research Consortium Techno-ParkInventors: Jeong-Hyun Yi, Yong-Jin Park, Sun-Woo Shin

Publication number: 20170049394Abstract: This disclosure describes devices, system, and a method for the prediction and prevention of acute decompensated heart failure or other patient conditions involving fluid accumulation in legs or hands. In one example, a wearable device contains a drift-free leg-size sensor and a tissue-elasticity sensor. Both sensors may be relatively inexpensive and developed using innovative new sensing ideas. Preliminary tests with the sensor prototypes show promising results: the leg-size sensor is capable of measuring 1 mm changes in leg diameter and the tissue-elasticity sensor can detect 0.15 MPa differences in elasticity. In another example, a wearable system includes sensors for measuring a variety of physiological parameters, a processing module, and a communication module. A low-profile instrumented sock, e.g., a wearable device, with multiple sensors can provide an indication of heart failure status for a patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 18, 2016Publication date: February 23, 2017Applicants: Regents of the University of Minnesota, Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and ResearchInventors: Song Zhang, Rajesh Rajamani, Bruce Johnson

Publication number: 20170051347Abstract: The identification of mutations that are present in a small fraction of DNA templates is essential for progress in several areas of biomedical research. Though massively parallel sequencing instruments are in principle well-suited to this task, the error rates in such instruments are generally too high to allow confident identification of rare variants. We here describe an approach that can substantially increase the sensitivity of massively parallel sequencing instruments for this purpose. One example of this approach, called “Safe-SeqS” for (Safe-Sequencing System) includes (i) assignment of a unique identifier (UID) to each template molecule; (ii) amplification of each uniquely tagged template molecule to create UID-families; and (iii) redundant sequencing of the amplification products. PCR fragments with the same UID are truly mutant (“super-mutants”) if ?95% of them contain the identical mutation.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 18, 2016Publication date: February 23, 2017Applicant: The Johns Hopkins UniversityInventors: Bert Vogelstein, Kenneth W. Publication number: 20170049783Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of treatment of clinical disorders associated with protein polymerization comprising administering, to a subject, an effective amount of carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine or another carbamazepine-like compound. It is based, at least in part, on the discovery that, in cells having a genetic defect in ?1-antitrypsin, carbamazepine was able to decrease levels of the mutant protein. Furthermore, carbamazepine reduced the hepatic load of mutant ?1-antitrypsin and the toxic effect of that mutant protein accumulation, hepatic fibrosis, in vivo using a mouse model of the disease. As patients having this defect in ?1-antitrypsin exhibit toxic accumulations of the protein, treatment according to the invention may be used to ameliorate symptoms and signs of disease.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 18, 2016Publication date: February 23, 2017Applicant: University of Pittsburgh - Of the Commonwealth System of Higher EducationInventors: David Hirsch Perlmutter, George Konstantine Michalopoulos, Tunde Hidvegi
