Abstract: The present invention relates to a pulsed laser deposition system, and particularly relates to a pulsed laser deposition system capable of using several different targets. In the pulsed laser deposition system, a beam-splitting device is provided to split a UV laser beam into several UV laser beams and to introduce these UV laser beams to different targets simultaneously. Therefore, the pulsed laser deposition system can use several different targets and can be used to form doped epitaxial layer (III-V semiconductor film) and ternary or quaternary epitaxial layer (III-V semiconductor film).
Abstract: A sound synthesizer 101 that plays a pre-determined sequence of sound notes one by one when the user taps on a touch sensitive surface 104 of the sound synthesizer 101. Different music is produced by varying the intervals between the sound notes, even from the same sequence of sound notes. The sound notes are selected according to a pre-determined scale, such as the pentatonic scale, for ease of matching to other music scales, and to reduce the disonnance between sound notes in scales such as that seen in the major scale.

Abstract: Techniques for segmentation of organs and tumors and cells in image data include revising a position of a boundary by evaluating an evolution equation that includes differences of amplitude values for voxels on the boundary from a statistical metric of amplitude of voxels inside, and from a statistical metric of amplitude of voxels outside, for a limited region that lies within a distance r of the boundary. The distance r is small compared to a perimeter of the first boundary. Some techniques include determining a revised position of multiple boundaries by evaluating an evolution equation that includes differences in a first topographical distance from a first marker and a second topographical distance from a second marker for each voxel on the boundary, and also includes at least one other term related to boundary detection.

Abstract: A routing protocol is used to transmit messages from a sender to a receiver over a network of nodes, where adversaries can control links between the nodes and can also control the behavior of a large number of nodes. Various techniques can be used, along or in combination, to combat these effects. In one approach, certain trigger conditions are identified, the occurrence of which signals malicious behavior within the network. When signaled, the sender requests status reports from the intermediate nodes in an effort to determine which nodes are malicious. The information for the status reports is generated by nodes as packets are passed from one node to the next.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for systems and methods for detecting chiral properties of materials and separating materials based on their chiral properties. A chiral vector is constructed from anisotropy properties of a polarization-dependent output signal from a sample. Different types of molecules from the sample can be differentiated based on a magnitude of the chiral vector. Chiral properties of the sample can be detected based on an angle of the chiral vector. The output signal can be a fluorescent emission from the sample and can be used to detect chiral properties of a substantially opaque sample.
Abstract: An unmanned drifting substance monitoring buoy (10) is thrown into a water area where a drifting substance is present, thereby tracking and monitoring the drifting substance. The unmanned drifting substance monitoring buoy (10) detects, by a detecting section, a relative location of the drifting substance on the water surface with respect to the unmanned drifting substance monitoring buoy (10), and measures, by a measuring section, directions and strengths of a wind and a tidal current. Then, the unmanned drifting substance monitoring buoy (10) tracks the drifting substance by adjusting, based on the relative location of the drifting substance detected by the detecting section and on the directions and the strengths of the wind and the tidal current measured by the measuring section, a surface area and a direction of a sail (13) by an adjusting section.
