Abstract: This invention offers an effective method of inhibiting the expression of apolipoprotein E by mammalian cells. Apolipoprotein E is a protein that plays a significant role in the development of Alzheimer's Disease in humans. The method comprises administering an effective amount of a triarylmethyl amine compound having the general formula: wherein the R1 group may comprise acyclic amines and aliphatic amines. The R2 group may comprise one of three aryl varieties: aryl, substituted aryl, or heterocycle. Triarylamine compounds inhibit apolipoprotein E expression in mammalian cells. In one aspect of the invention the mammalian cells may be human cells, and more specifically may be human brain cells.
Abstract: Light emitting devices including sub-pixels having different numbers of emissive layers are provided. At least one sub-pixel of a first color may include a single emissive layer, and at least one sub-pixel of a second color may include multiple emissive layers disposed in a vertical stack. Light emitting devices in which different voltages are applied to each sub-pixel or group of sub-pixels are also provided. Abstract: Trustworthy systems require that code be validated as genuine. Most systems implement this requirement prior to execution by matching a cryptographic hash of the binary file against a reference hash value, leaving the code vulnerable to run time compromises, such as code injection, return and jump-oriented programming, and illegal linking of the code to compromised library functions. The Run-time Execution Validator (REV) validates, as the program executes, the control flow path and instructions executed along the control flow path. REV uses a signature cache integrated into the processor pipeline to perform live validation of executions, at basic block boundaries, and ensures that changes to the program state are not made by the instructions within a basic block until the control flow path into the basic block and the instructions within the basic block are both validated.

Abstract: A system for registering images includes an image registration unit. The image registration unit is configured to receive first image data for a first image in an N-dimensional space, receive second image data for a second image in the N-dimensional space, calculate a field of update vectors that maps the first image into a moving image, and map the first image into the moving image using the field of update vectors such that the moving image more closely matches the second image. The field of update vectors includes a plurality of N+M dimensional update vectors, each update vector having N spatial components and M extra components. N is a number greater than zero, and M is a number greater than zero. The M extra components of the plurality of update vectors identify portions of the first image that are assigned external values during the mapping the first image into the moving image.

Abstract: A method for determining an axial direction of a bore of a bone fixator includes the following steps: obtaining X-ray images of the bore, calculating perpendicular bisectors, determining spatial planes, and obtaining the axial direction of the bore. After X-ray images of the bore are taken from two X-ray source positions, two overlapping images of the bore are obtained for calculating two perpendicular bisectors therein respectively. Each perpendicular bisector and its corresponding X-ray source position define one spatial plane. The intersection of the two spatial planes defines the axial direction of the bore. Now that the axial direction of the bore can be derived from only two X-ray images of the bore taken during an orthopedic surgery, radiation exposure of the patient and of the medical personnel involved can be significantly reduced.
Abstract: A forming method of a laminated structure by internal oxidation is provided. An alloy coating layer is formed. The alloy coating layer has a columnar grain structure and includes a first metal element and a second metal element, and the first metal element is oxidized more easily than the second metal element. Thereafter, a thermal oxidation treatment process is performed to the alloy coating layer, so as to form a plurality of oxide layers and a plurality of metal layers stacked alternately with each other from a surface portion of the alloy coating layer. A material of the oxide layers includes an oxide of the first metal element, and a material of the metal layers includes the second metal element.
