Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for predicting the service life of a metallic structure subjected to cyclic loading. Such structures experience fatigue, which can lead to failure after a number of loading cycles. The disclosed invention allows for an accurate prediction of the number of cycles to failure for a metallic structure by observing the slope of the rise in surface temperature of the structure after the cyclic loading has begun. The method of this invention provides early and accurate predictions of service life and does not require destructive testing. The method and apparatus of the present invention may be installed on working equipment, thus providing service life predictions for materials in real world use. The invention uses an empirically derived relationship that was confirmed using analytical relationships and material properties. The derived formula uses two constants that may be determined empirically using a disclosed process. The constants also may be estimated mathematically.

Abstract: A motion function of a biological tissue is efficiently evaluated on the basis of image data collected from different medical image diagnostic apparatuses. In terms of a common analysis algorithm applied to subject's time-series image data supplied from a separate medical image diagnostic apparatus, a setting part sets a plurality of interest points on a myocardial tissue of a reference image data extracted from the image data, and a tracking process part measures a motion parameter on the basis of displacement information of the myocardial tissue at the interest points obtained by a tracking process between the reference image data and subsequent image data thereof. Meanwhile, a data creating unit creates parameter image data showing two-dimension distribution of the motion parameter or parameter time-series data showing a variation in time of the motion parameter as parameter data on the basis of the measurement result, and displays the parameter data.

Abstract: Methods are described for screening a subject for risk of Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease Type 2A or for diagnosing Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease or a predisposition for developing Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease in a subject, by detecting the presence or absence of a mutation in the mitofusin gene in a biological sample collected from the subject. Methods are also described for detecting the presence of a genetic polymorphism associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease Type 2A in a sample of patient nucleic acid, by amplifying a mitofusin gene sequence in the patient nucleic acid to produce an amplification product; and identifying the presence of a Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease Type 2A associated polymorphism in the amplification product.

Abstract: A method for amplifying a trace amount of mRNA includes adding a dummy RNA to a solution containing the trace amount of mRNA, so as to prepare a mixed solution; synthesizing an anti-sense DNA by reverse transcription, which uses the mixed solution as a template; synthesizing a sense DNA which is complementary to the anti-sense DNA thus synthesized, so as to generate a double-strand DNA made of the sense DNA and the anti-sense DNA; ligating an RNA polymerase promoter sequence to the double-strand DNA thus generated, on a sense DNA 5? end side of the double-strand DNA, so as to prepare a double-strand DNA for amplification; and amplifying, by using RNA polymerase, an RNA from the double-strand DNA for amplification.
Abstract: A data visualization system may allow an untrained user to easily, rapidly, and unambiguously specify the content and format of a report about information. The user interface may display all of the selections which the user makes as a single composite phrase.
Abstract: A frame includes a pair of parallel arms that are transversely spaced apart from one another. A first brace interconnects the parallel arms at their respective leading ends and a second brace interconnects the parallel arms at their respective mid-lengths. A table has a first end hingedly connected to the second brace. A first and second plurality of teeth is provided along an extent of the first and second arms, respectively. First and second support struts hingedly interconnect the table to preselected teeth when the table is in a first angular position relative to the frame. First and second book supports are slideably mounted on the table and lockable into any selected position. The parallel arms are releasably attached to the armrests of a conventional wheelchair. The support struts are disengaged from the teeth to enable folding the table into a horizontal storage position where it overlies the frame.
Abstract: A routing method of a wireless network system is provided. Paths of the wireless network system are divided into down-stream and up-stream paths. The up-stream paths are reset for each period, or whenever a network is changed, or whenever transmission of data fails more than a predetermined number of times. Accordingly, it is possible to secure an average lifetime of a wireless network system by previously preventing a bottleneck from occurring at a specific node, increase a transmission speed of data by reducing the hop count to the sink node connected to the information collector, and reduce power consumption of a battery.
