Abstract: A novel, economical electrical insulation method for the production of ultra-thin insulation layers using a solution coating method. Thin hydrophobic self-assembled bi-functional layers of less than 10 nm thick were deposited by a simple solution method and demonstrated to electrically insulate micro-/nano-devices for in-water detection applications. The insulation layer includes a hydrophobic group which repels water and permits superb insulation properties of the ultra-thin layers. The insulation layer has the additional advantages that it binds to a metal or metal oxide surface and to sensing receptors by covalent bonding using standard silane chemistry.

Abstract: A new digital image/video camera that directly acquires random projections of the incident light field without first collecting the pixels/voxels. In one preferred embodiment, the camera employs a digital micromirror array to perform optical calculations of linear projections of an image onto pseudorandom binary patterns. Its hallmarks include the ability to obtain an image with only a single detection element while measuring the image/video fewer times than the number of pixels or voxels—this can significantly reduce the computation required for image/video acquisition/encoding. Since the system features a single photon detector, it can also be adapted to image at wavelengths that are currently impossible with conventional CCD and CMOS imagers.

Abstract: The invention relates generally to biopsy needle guidance which employs an x-ray/gamma image spatial co-registration methodology. A gamma camera is configured to mount on a biopsy needle gun platform to obtain a gamma image. More particular, the spatially co-registered x-ray and physiological images may be employed for needle guidance during biopsy. Moreover, functional images may be obtained from a gamma camera at various angles relative to a target site. Further, the invention also generally relates to a breast lesion localization method using opposed gamma camera images or dual opposed images. This dual head methodology may be used to compare the lesion signal in two opposed detector images and to calculate the Z coordinate (distance from one or both of the detectors) of the lesion.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing artificial implants, comprising 1) acquiring the pre-operation three dimensional volume image and the post-operation three dimensional volume image of the operation portion, thereby respectively producing the pre-operation target image and the post-operation target image including the target; 2) aligning the pre-operation target image with the post-operation target image so as to generate the aligned image; 3) acquiring the difference image of the incised part in the target based on the aligned image; 4) building the three dimensional model of mold points of the incised part based on the difference image; and 5) manufacturing the artificial implant having the same shape with the incised part based on such three dimensional model of mold points.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for arranging various cells as cell clusters in an arbitrary three-dimensional space and producing a three dimensional structure of a desired shape constituted exclusively by cells. Furthermore, the present invention provides a support provided with a substrate and a thread or needle-shaped material that penetrates the substrate and cell clusters for positioning cell clusters in arbitrary space. The support is provided with a sheet that can be removed as necessary for covering the substrate. Further, a method for using the support structure to position cell clusters in an arbitrary space and a method for the production of three-dimensional cell structures are provided.

Abstract: A gray code encoding and decoding method applied to holographic storage devices is proposed. The encoding method uses gray levels of a 2D detector to encode a certain amount of original bits of the original data, and then sends them to a spatial light modulator (SLM) for encryption. The decoding method corrects the received gray levels to the original gray levels, and then compares the maximum gray level with the original gray levels to decode the original gray level into binary data. The proposed encoding and decoding method can better make use of storage locations of the 2D detector and get a code rate close to 1.

Abstract: A first paste for a first electrode layer and a second paste for a second electrode layer are printed on a fired solid electrolyte by screen printing, etc. to form electrode patterns for forming the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer. The first and second pastes can be prepared by dissolving a binder in an organic solvent, adding an appropriate amount of the obtained solution to powders of an electrode active substance material and a solid electrolyte material, and kneading the resultant mixture. The first and second pastes are applied to the fired solid electrolyte to form a cell precursor, the cell precursor is placed in a hot press mold subjected to a thermal treatment while pressing from above by a punch, whereby the first and second electrode layer are formed from the first and second pastes.
