  • Patent number: 6136149
Abstract: Press section in a paper machine and method for replacing press fabrics therein including two separate press nips and a frame part for each press nip. Side frames of both frame parts are interconnected by upper horizontal beams in the machine direction. The upper horizontal beam at the tending side is comprised of two beam parts of which one is situated above the side frames of the frame part of the first nip at the tending side and the other is situated above the side frames of the frame part of the second nip at the tending side. The tending-side beam parts operate as a machine-direction cantilever beam so that a first beam part is supported on the second beam part and thereby on its frame part while the side frames of the first frame part are open for replacement of the fabrics in the first nip. The beam parts operate reciprocally with each other in inverse functions as a cantilever beam and as a support part when the press fabrics in the second nip are being replaced.

  • Patent number: 6132559
Abstract: A method and device for dewatering a paper or board web and passing the web as a closed draw from a lower wire of a web forming section, in which the web is formed between the lower wire and an upper wire, to the press section and through one or more dewatering press nips in the press section. The web is separated from the upper wire on a first suction zone or block of the suction roll, after which the web is affixed to the lower wire over a second suction zone or block of the suction roll. The web is then affixed, in a pre-press and transfer nip formed by the suction roll and a smooth-faced roll, onto the outer face of a substantially non-watering-receiving transfer belt, the web being passed on support of this belt into the first press nip. In the press nip, water is pressed out of the web into a water-receiving press felt.

  • Patent number: 6128833
Abstract: The invention concerns a dryer-section concept of a paper/board machine and a method in the drying of a paper/board web (W). The dryer section comprises a number of drying cylinder groups (R.sub.I . . . R.sub.N), which comprise a single-wire draw, on whose support the web (W) is guided so that it meanders as loop-shaped from a drying cylinder onto a suction cylinder. The web (W)/the wire (H) is guided so that the web is placed against the face of the drying cylinder and the wire is placed outside. In the dryer-section concept, the web (W) is passed from one drying cylinder group (R.sub.I) into the next dryer group (R.sub.II) and further. According to the invention, at least some of the drying cylinders (K'.sub.1, K'.sub.2, K'.sub.

  • Patent number: 6129453
Abstract: A glide bearing for a roll having hydrostatic bearing elements provided with bearing shoes fitted to be positioned around a neck of the roll axle in order to support the axle and thus the roll revolvingly with respect to a frame member, such as a bearing block. The bearing elements are hydraulically-operating piston-cylinder devices which may be loaded by a hydraulic pressure medium such that the bearing shoes are able to be positioned freely around the neck of the axle. In one preferred application, the bearing elements are arranged so as to enable displacement of the roll for closing and opening a nip formed in part by the roll.

  • Patent number: 6126787
Abstract: A method for producing surface-treated paper, in particular of fine paper, and a dry end of a paper machine that makes use of the method. A paper web that has been dewatered by pressing is dried in the forward dryer section, in which drying energy is applied to the paper web over the entire length of the forward dryer section asymmetrically in the z-direction from the side of the bottom face of the web. This step is carried out by a number of successive groups with single-wire draw that are open downward. In this manner, shrinkage of the web both in the machine direction and in the cross direction is reduced or at least partially prevented, which shrinkage tends to take place when the dry solids content becomes higher. Paper broke is removed from underneath the drying groups that are open downward substantially by the force of gravity onto the broke conveyor placed underneath.

  • Patent number: 6119362
Abstract: An arrangement for impingement drying and/or through-drying of a paper or material web in which the web is dried by blowing hot air and/or superheated steam from an impingement drying and/or through-drying dryer in a direction substantially perpendicular to the web, and the web runs on support of a wire or equivalent past the dryer. In the area of the dryer, the web and wire are supported from the opposite side of the wire, opposite in relation to the web, by blowings produced from one or more vacuum blow boxes substantially across the entire width of the web. The outlet direction of the blowings may be substantially the same as the running direction of the drying wire and as such, steam and/or air is/are ejected out of the space between the drying wire and the wall placed in connection with the blow boxes that produce the blowings.

  • Patent number: 6109285
Abstract: Method and arrangement for automatic monitoring and correction of the regulation pressure of regulation valves in a regulation valve block in a variable-crown roll in a paper machine. The regulation pressure of the regulation valve in each regulation zone in the regulation valve block can be connected alternatingly to a reference pressure detector whose measurement signal is compared with the measurement signal of the actual value of the regulation pressure in the regulation zone concerned. The result of the comparison is stored on the page of monitoring of pressure detectors contained in the central computer system, on which page, in addition to this difference, set values and actual values of the regulation zone pressures as well as the value of the reference measurement are provided.

  • Patent number: 6109550
Abstract: An arrangement for providing continuous grinding in a pulp grinder comprising a feed chute and a piston in the feed chute moving lengthwise of the feed chute for pressing the wood in the feed chute against a grindstone. The arrangement comprises rotary feed members between the piston and the grindstone on the sides of the feed chute for pushing the compressed wood further against the grindstone. Also, the arrangement comprises a closing member that can be pushed between the compressed wood and the piston to prevent the wood from moving backward with the piston as the piston is moved to the initial position, ready for the stroke, to allow the feed of a new batch of wood.

  • Patent number: 6103066
Abstract: A method for transferring a paper web in high-speed paper machines having a press section arranged between a web former and a dryer section. In the press section, there is one or more press nip zones dewatering the web, at least the last one of which is an extended nip through which at least two press fabrics that receive water are passed. The web is passed between the press fabrics through the last extended-nip zone so that the draining of water out of the web takes place through both faces of the web. After the last extended-nip zone, the web follows one of the fabrics passing through the last extended-nip zone by the effect of a difference in pressure avoiding rewetting of the web. The fabric carrying the web is passed through a gently loaded transfer nip zone in which the web is transferred onto a transfer surface more adhesive than the face of the fabric.

  • Patent number: 6095452
Abstract: Method and arrangement for winding a web wherein a roll being formed is supported in an axial direction of the roll by first and second support members placed at sides of the roll. The shape of the end of the roll being formed is measured indirectly or directly, and the relative positions of the support members in relation to one another are regulated based on the measurement. As indirect measurement, it is possible to measure forces in the axial direction of the roll, and as direct measurement, it is possible to measure the side line of a roll end directly by contact measurement or contact-free measurement. Based on the measurements, the relative positions of the support members in relation to one another are regulated such that any defects in the shape at the ends of the roll being formed can be prevented.
