  • Publication number: 20040221237
Abstract: Methods for interactive selecting video queries consisting of training images from a video for a video similarity search and for displaying the results of the similarity search are disclosed. The user selects a time interval in the video as a query definition of training images for training an image class statistical model. Time intervals can be as short as one frame or consist of disjoint segments or shots. A statistical model of the image class defined by the training images is calculated on-the-fly from feature vectors extracted from transforms of the training images. For each frame in the video, a feature vector is extracted from the transform of the frame, and a similarity measure is calculated using the feature vector and the image class statistical model. The similarity measure is derived from the likelihood of a Gaussian model producing the frame. The similarity is then presented graphically, which allows the time structure of the video to be visualized and browsed.

  • Publication number: 20040218953
Abstract: A guide system for xerographic printing apparatus introduces paper bearing an unfixed image and having a broad range of basis weights into a fuser nip from a prefuser transport without causing image smear. An entrance baffle is positioned in the path of the paper advancing toward the fuser nip for engagement by the paper's leading edge. The entrance baffle is hinged at its mounting end for swinging movement between a maximal and minimal positions as defined by stop members and is biased into engagement with the minimal stop member. The magnitude of the bias is chosen such that as the lightest basis weight paper engages the entrance baffle, it bends around its free end and is guided into the fuser nip, and such that as the heaviest paper engages the entrance baffle, it forces the entrance baffle toward engagement with the second stop member and itself is guided into the fuser nip.

  • Publication number: 20040218654
Abstract: A locally-outcoupled optical resonator has whispering gallery modes existing in a nearly circular resonator. Light is outcoupled by providing a local perturbing feature on the perimeter of the locally-outcoupled cavity resonator. The perturbing feature provides an outcoupling or loss mechanism that asymmetrically interacts with circulating whispering gallery modes, thereby making the resonator capable of uni-directional output.

  • Patent number: 6813045
Abstract: A system and method for automatically starting a dialing group upon detection of a document containing image information and transmitting said image information to a plurality of predetermined destinations comprising a first step of pre-programming and storing a dialing group of predetermined destinations in a facsimile machine. A user then inserts a document containing image information in the facsimile machine. The facsimile machine detects the presence of the document and signals the dialing group selection circuit which automatically selects the pre-programmed dialing group of predetermined destinations. The facsimile machine then prompts the user for an additional destination to send the image information. Next, the facsimile machine automatically transmits the image information to the plurality of predetermined destinations. Finally, the facsimile machine transmits the image information to the additional destination desired by the user.

  • Patent number: 6811896
Abstract: An organic light emitting device (OLED) has a thick (100 to 250 nanometers) porphyrin buffer layer between the anode and the luminescent region. The thick porphyrin buffer layer in the OLED results in a small increase in device operating voltage, reduces the possibility of OLED shorting and can improve color purity in blue emitting OLEDs due to its significant optical absorption in the red range.
