Abstract: In an image sensor array, as would be used in an input scanner such as in a digital copier, an original image is moved relative to a linear array of photosites. Each photosite includes at least two wide photosensors, each of which extends substantially across the photosite along the array direction, and at least two narrow photosensors, which are arranged next to each other along the array direction. In one embodiment, the wide photosensors include primary-color filters and the narrow photosensors are clear-filtered.

Abstract: A method for minimizing toner usage in minimum area coverage patches in a color printer comprising: reviewing a print job comprising job images; performing a pixel count for each color plane on a sheet level of the print job; converting the pixel count to a percent area coverage per color plane; in feed-forward mode comparing the area coverage per color plane to a reference value; activating or inactivating a color station depending on the comparison of the area coverage per color plane to the reference value; and printing a MAC patch of variable size with said color station if the area coverage per color plane is substantially less than a reference value.

Shape factor=(L2/S)/4&pgr;×100
where S is the area of particle; and L is the perimeter of particle, and an image forming device comprising same.
Abstract: An improved and lower cost color spectrophotometer, especially suitable for an on-line color printer color control system, in which plural different spectra LEDs sequentially perpendicularly illuminate a common and substantially circularly illuminated color test area, which may be variably spaced and variably oriented relative to the spectrophotometer, through a common central lens system, and also the reflected illumination therefrom may be measured at 45 degrees thereto by averaging the outputs of photodetectors spaced around that circularly illuminated color test area, to provide reduced sensitivity to the variable angular or azimuthal orientation of the color test area relative to the spectrophotometer, and which photodetectors may be so illuminated by 1:1 optics for spatial insensitivity.

Abstract: An actuator including a pneumatically distended elastomer membrane that is pressurized and depressurized using electrostatically actuated flap valves laminated onto a printed circuit board. The flap valves close only at zero pressure gradients and flows so that elevated closing and hold-off pressures are achieved. Fluid expelled from the elastomer membranes during collapse are vented through a wall of the actuator. An air jet object mover utilizes an array of the pneumatic actuators as valves to open and close air jet vents. A fiber optic micro-switch utilizes pneumatic actuators to position a mirror.

Abstract: A substrate inverter, comprising: an inversion channel having an input path having an input nip and output path having an output nip; input drive means for driving a substrate into the inversion channel means in an initial incoming direction so that a leading edge and trailing edge of the substrate pass by the input nip until the trailing edge of substrate reaches a first position in the inversion channel; output drive means for driving the substrate out of the inversion channel in an output direction generally opposite the initial incoming direction; the output drive means includes a nip for engaging the leading edge of the substrate when the substrate is in the first position; a Controller, responsive to the output drive means, for adjusting speed of the output drive means so that substrate is driven a first speed until the trailing edge of substrate reaches a second position in the inversion channel, and second speed when the trailing edge passes the second position or stop.

Abstract: A method for calibration of touchscreen display coordinates includes displaying a calibration target; sensing a calibration touch for the calibration target; obtaining a calibration touchpoint coordinate for the calibration touch; determining if the calibration touchpoint coordinate is valid; and if so, storing the calibration touchpoint coordinate in a touchpoint history database and using calibration touchpoint coordinates to define a calibration reference point for operation, otherwise generating a computed reference calibration point as an average of using a predetermined number of the calibration touchpoint coordinates in the touchpoint history database.
Abstract: A series of enable trains are designed to provide a predetermined increment of heat to the heating element of a thermal ink jet printer printhead. The enable trains are stored in tabular form in memory according to printhead temperature. The printhead temperature is sensed during the printing cycle and read by the printhead controller. The controller selects a enable train from the table and applies it to the heating element. When subsequent cycles call for a change in the enable train, the current enable train is blended with the new enable train to provide an average increment of heat.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for on-line predicting an analytical model of a dynamically varying color reproduction device comprises recursively executing a parameter adjustment algorithm for updating the parameters to the analytical model. Parameter adjustment is computed based upon a measured error signal detected between a sensed signal detected from actual device output and with an insitu sensor, and the analytical model output. The adjustment algorithm is recursively executed until parameter convergence effects a minimal error measurement, at which time the updated parameters are identified as accurate within the selected parametric model.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image carrying body, a heating unit, a pressure unit for applying pressure, a recording medium supporting member, and a depressing/close-contacting unit. The recording medium supporting member moves in the same direction as the image carrying body moves, from a pressure position where the pressure unit applies pressure to the recording medium and the image carrying body to an exfoliation position where the recording medium is exfoliated from the image carrying body while supporting the recording medium overlapped with the image carrying body. The depressing/close-contacting unit sandwiches and depresses the recording-medium supporting member and the image carrying body in a middle position between the pressure position and the exfoliation position to closely contact the recording medium with the image carrying body.
Abstract: A method for estimation of toner usage in digital xerographic process is disclosed. Abstract: A nonbuttable full-width array printhead with reduced number of printbars required in a color printer is disclosed. The number of printbars may be reduced by including one single color printbar for each color and an additional printbar with multicolor die modules including each of the colors of the single color printbars. Die modules on each of the single color printbars are spaced closer together but are not butted. The total number of printbars may also be reduced by staggering printbars with multicolor die modules between printbars with the single color die modules. In the latter case, it is possible to preserve the order that inks of the various colors are applied for all regions of the printed paper.
Abstract: There are provided an instruction form retrieval apparatus for retrieving an instruction form accessible to a user based on information on the user, an instruction form execution apparatus, an instruction form management system having the instruction form retrieval apparatus and the instruction form execution apparatus, and an instruction form retrieval method for retrieval of the instruction form accessible to the user based on information on the user. An instruction form retrieval apparatus of an instruction form management system retrieves information on an instruction form management apparatus holding an instruction form accessible to a user, based on information on the user, and transmits information on the instruction form management apparatus to an instruction form execution apparatus.
Abstract: An analysis and evaluation apparatus analyzes, for organizations and individuals, the communication content of email, and extracts common words for each organization. The analysis and evaluation apparatus compares common words and concepts for an organization or an individual that is to be evaluated, with common words and concepts for other organizations, and performs an evaluation to determine how they influence the other organizations. Thereafter, the analysis and evaluation apparatus analyzes the usage level whereat the other organizations utilize the organization or individual to be evaluated. And then, based on the usage level and the number of organizations that are influenced by the organization or the individual to be evaluated, the analysis and evaluation apparatus evaluates and ascertains the value of the organization or individual to be evaluated, and analyzes and stores a time-transient change as to how others are influenced.
