  • Patent number: 4588143
Abstract: For winding a ferromagnetic body with axially extending slots opening inwardly, such as a stator, the winding wire is inserted into the slots and laid out onto coil ends by means of pairs of wire dispensing members (8, 10) whereby the wire is repeatedly passed through the bore of the body and inserted into slots and laid out onto the coil heads at one side of the iron body by means of the one of said members (8) while the wire is received by the other member (10) at the other side of said body and is laid out onto a coil end at this other side. The winding operation is executed automatically and economically with optimum conditions regarding efficiency and specific power of the electric machine.

  • Patent number: 4588140
Abstract: A device for preventing reversing of a fishing spinning reel of the type having a rotor for retaining a fishing line and fixed to a rotary shaft sleeve adapted to rotate in accordance with the rotation of a handle shaft, so that the fishing line is wound up around a spool by the rotation of the handle shaft. The device includes a reverse preventing ratchet pawl for engagement with the ratchet wheel and pivotally secured to a wall of the reel housing, and a resilient member fixed to the pawl and having a unitary resilient tab formed at a portion thereof near the shaft portion of the pawl. The resilient tab engages the teeth of the ratchet wheel, and causes the pawl to be switched between an operative position and an inoperative position when cam means, carried by the reel housing, is in an operative position.

  • Patent number: 4586667
Abstract: The flyer mechanism includes a readily adjustable wire tensioning mechanism which is repeatably settable so that varying degrees of tension may be applied to the wire along the flyer arm. Centrifugal action is used to transfer wire flutter from a region near the coil form to a fluttering loop of wire between the tensioning mechanism and the flyer nozzle. The tensioning means are usable singly or in combination with a wire guide to control the size of the centrifugally generated loop. The flyer discharge nozzle may, in effect, be "free floating" and the attitude of each nozzle is controlled by the strand of wire extending between the form means and such nozzle. With this arrangement, the previously mentioned fluttering loop can have a maximum affect on the tension of the wire extending between the form means and nozzle. All of the features disclosed are operable for either direction of flyer rotation.

  • Patent number: 4585183
Abstract: An improved damping structure for a bait casting reel with magnetic spool damping structure. Fibers or the like are provided on a member associated with the spool and moving in a magnetic field and disrupt air flow in the magnetic field as the reel is operated. The resultant damping force on the spool is a combination of forces due to the rotation of the member in the magnetic field and the disruption of the air flow by reason of the placement of the fibers in the magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 4583696
Abstract: According to the invention, an insulator is provided at the axial ends of a rotor core. The insulator has radially spaced rows of notches at intervals approximately equal to the diameter of the winding wire for guiding placement of the turns of the winding at a predetermined location. After completion of the first turn, the wire is skewed at a first angle with respect to the plane of the first turn to coincide with the second notch and the remainder of turns in the first layer in turn completed in substantially parallel relationship. At the completion of the last turn of the first layer, the wire is crossed over the next to the last turn, skewing the winding in an opposite direction and situating the wire in the valleys formed between the successive turns in the first layer. The sequence continues alternately for the remaining layers.

  • Patent number: 4583699
Abstract: A level-wind mechanism for fishing reels using a line-laying element having two parts normally reciprocable by means of a slide operated by a hand crank via a transmission. The two parts are disengageable and reengageable relative to said slide by rotation of the latter in one or the other direction on a guide. The slide is rotatable in a direction for disengagement from said line-laying element by means of said slide guide by rotation of the latter by means of an operating member which also is adapted to disengage the line spool during casting so that said level-wind mechanism and said line spool are disengaged by one and the same disengagement operation.

  • Patent number: 4583714
Abstract: A truck mounted hydraulic cable reel apparatus for heavy power cable includes bed frame members supporting a circular turntable. A motor rotates the turntable 45.degree. to either side of a longitudinal center line. Two vertical stanchions are mounted on the turntable. One stanchion supports a tail stock assembly, and a second supports a reel drive assembly. The drive assembly includes a reel drive shaft connected at one end to a hydraulic motor and having a reel drive face plate on the other end. The face plate has lugs which engage lugs on an end of the cable reel spool shaft. The hydraulic motor reversely rotates the cable spool to wind in or pay out power cable. Vertical guide rollers are disposed at either end of the horizontal cable roller. Telescoping outrigger booms are adjustably positioned on either side of the bed frame. Multiple guide rollers on the ends of the booms open and lock closed to capture the power cable and to act as outriggers when laying or retrieving cable.

  • Patent number: 4579291
Abstract: An adjustable chuck for armature winding machines employs a pair of stationary longitudinal deflectors or wings and a separate pair of frontal deflectors or wings. At least one of the frontal deflectors is movable independently of the longitudinal deflectors so that the chuck can be adjusted to accommodate armatures having cores of various different lengths. Regardless of whether the frontal deflectors have been positioned to accommodate a long or short armature, they cooperate with the longitudinal deflectors to form a continuous wire guide path for a wire being wound around the armature.

  • Patent number: 4577837
Abstract: A locking mechanism for extendible telescoping tubular members formed with radial, axially aligned openings. The locking mechanism comprises a hollow housing that surrounds the exterior wall of the outer tubular member. The housing is adapted for movement in the axial direction of the telescoping tubular members along the exterior wall of the outer tubular member. Disposed within the housing is at least one spring loaded lever that pivots about a fulcrum in the housing. Fixed to the opposite end portions of the lever, respectively, are oppositely directed plungers. When the radial openings of the telescoping tubular members are in register, the locking plunger enters the registered openings to restrain axial displacement between the telescoping tubular members.

  • Patent number: 4576363
Abstract: A portable hoist or puller has two facing half shell members housing a chain sprocket rotatably affixed to a drive shaft supported for rotation by a pair of rollers. The first roller is slidably fixed for rotation with the drive shaft while the second is threaded to the shaft. The periphery of the threaded roller is serrated for engagement by a spring detent to inhibit its free rotation. Each roller has a hub portion extending outwardly of the housing to selectively receive a drive tool. A friction disc is disposed between each of the rollers and adjacent housing portion. To apply force to a load connected to the chain trained over the sprocket, the drive tool is coupled to the first roller and rotated causing the sprocket to feed the chain with the rollers pulled against the sprocket. If the drive tool released, the pull of the load tends to reversely rotate the shaft whereby the threaded arrangement causes the rollers to lock-up against the housing.

  • Patent number: 4575024
Abstract: A fishing reel housing has opposed side plates between which a spool rotates to unwind line in a forward direction. A crank operated drive in one of the side plates is manually rotated to rotate the spool to rewind the line. This drive includes a friction coupling, gearing, and positive clutch between the gearing and spool. The positive clutch is disengaged by depressing a thumb member extending between and slidably mounted in slots in the side plates rearwardly of the spool. Depression of the thumb member operates linkage internal of the one side plate to disengage the positive clutch so that the spool may rotate freely in the unwinding direction. The clutch is reengaged by rotation of the crank operate drive which includes an means to release the clutch for reengagement with the spool so that continued rotation of the crank can rewind the line. The thumb member has a rear arcuate surface generally conforming to the rear edges of the side plates.
