  • Patent number: 4572455
Abstract: A fishing reel comprising a pair of side frames, a spool rotatably supported therebetween, and a drive mechanism having a handle and a drag mechanism. Rotary operating force of the handle can be transmitted to the spool through the drive mechanism. A tubular shaft which has an axis parallel to that of the spool supports a drag washer of the drag mechanism and a master gear of the drive mechanism. The tubular shaft is rotatably supported between the side frames. The handle shaft of the reel handle is selectively insertable into the tubular shaft at either end, so that the fishing reel having only one drive mechanism can be arranged in either left-handle type or right-handle type.

  • Patent number: 4568032
Abstract: A winding apparatus has a holding unit on which a video head having a through hole is mounted. A wire is supplied by a wire supply unit through the through hole from one end thereof. A first wire suction unit draws by suction the wire from the other end side of the through hole and is moved away from the video head to render the wire taut. The video head is pivoted 180.degree. by the holding unit so that the wire stretched is wound around the head. Then, a first wire feeding unit clamps the end portion of the wire at the first suction unit side, and is pivoted 180.degree. and moved to the vicinity of the head to direct the end of the wire to the through hole. Thereafter, the first feeding unit feeds the wire through the through hole from one end thereof, and the wire fed is drawn by a second suction unit from the other end side of the through hole.

  • Patent number: 4566655
Abstract: A two-speed drive for a fishing reel wherein a low friction clutch is interposed between the drive shaft and the high speed main drive gear. Planetary gears extend from one side of the main drive gear and are engaged by the secondary drive gear so that, in the event the low friction clutch slips, the main drive gear will be driven by the smaller secondary drive gear through orbital rotation of the planet gears.

  • Patent number: 4562975
Abstract: Crash or shock absorbing structural components made of fiber reinforced shetic materials and having portions of different diameters including at least one portion of a larger diameter than another portion, are produced by winding synthetic fibers onto a winding arbor (6) in a desired winding pattern. For this purpose a winding support cage (14) is arranged on the winding arbor (6). The winding support cage (14) has circumferential end edges provided with cut-outs (18, 18') for receiving fiber strands. Arresting pins (25, 26) reach into pairs of these cut-outs for temporarily holding the winding support cage (14) against rotation with the winding arbor when a fiber guide (12) moves into a respective starting position for the next winding operation.

  • Patent number: 4561604
Abstract: A spinning reel includes a rotary frame which has a pair of support arms and which is supported rotatably to a reel body so that the rotary frame can rotate to wind up a fishing line onto a spool which is reciprocable longitudinally relative to the reel body. The reel includes an intercepting mechanism having an intercepter for intercepting the fishing line to prevent the line from entering through gaps located between the inner flange of the spool and the support arms to such an extent that the line reaches the root sides at which the support arms are connected to the main portion of the rotary frame. The intercepter also has engaging portions engageable with the support arms so that the intercepter rotates with respect to the spool by following the rotation of the rotary frame thereby preventing the line from entering through the gaps into the root sides of the support arms.

  • Patent number: 4560118
Abstract: A drive mechanism for fishing reels is disclosed which includes a spool supported on bearings and a shaft, carried in spaced side plates of a reel frame. The reel includes a cam operated brake mechanism which includes a plurality of stops, with an axially slidable spool shaft. One of the bearings carries a shaft supporting a bearing and drive mechanism which includes a handle, positioning pin and gears slidably mounted on shafts, which upon selective manipulation will engage one of two sets of gears, thereby determining the drive ratio available to the handle for varying the speed of spool rotation as desired. The gear ratios are selected to provide that upon backward or counterclockwise handle rotation against the stops, the teeth of the gears of the lower ratio will always be angularly aligned with the internal teeth of the ring gear to provide for gear shifting.

  • Patent number: 4553705
Abstract: The present invention provides a wire winding method and apparatus in which for winding wire on a toroidal core having a hole therethrough, one end of the wire is inserted through the toroidal core from one side thereof, the wire protruding from the toroidal core is drawn out and this drawn out wire is wound on the core, and, then, with a tension applied, the tip of the wire is again inserted through the toroidal core, which operation is repeated. The tip of the wire gripped by a drawing out member is cut between the drawing out member and a gripping member before inserting the end of the wire through the aforementioned toroidal core, the cut being made such that the distance between the gripping position and the tip of the cut wire is a predetermined value, so that the length of wire from the tip to the gripping member is always the same when the wire is inserted through the hole in the core.

  • Patent number: 4552318
Abstract: A closed face fishing reel is modified or initially formed to provide a seat adjacent the opening through which the fishing line passes. The seat may be formed as a separate member attachable in any suitable manner to the face of the reel or the reel body itself may be formed during manufacture to provide a seat of the proper size and position. An annular member, which is employed as a strike indicator, is made of such size as to be frictionally received on the seat for convenient storage when not in use. Further, it is made so as to be easily removable from the seat when it is desired to place the annular member in a strike-indicating position for use. When it is desired to utilize the strike indicator, it is simply removed from its position in engagement with the seat and allowed to fall by its own weight to a position in slack in the line. It is thus clearly visible when the fishing rod is positioned, as it is normally expected to be when in use, in a supported inclined position.

  • Patent number: 4548365
Abstract: A method and apparatus for winding toroidal cores is disclosed whereby two wire strands supplied from a continuous source are successively wound into turns about different angular sectors of a toroidal core to form two coils that are wound in different directions. The first strand is fed through the core opening in a position along a first sector of the core that is located slightly clockwise from the position in which the first turn of the first coil is being formed, and it is then wrapped around and through the core opening in successive turns as the core is rotated clockwise to form a first coil wound in a first direction.

  • Patent number: 4544136
Abstract: The invention relates to a new and improved tire lift/carrier featuring a reel assembly comprised of a rotatable spool formed of thin metal plates abutted one to the other in a side by side relation, a portion of which plates defines a cavity in which one end of a line is held captive, the other end of which line is adapted to extend to releasably connect to a load which places a tension on this line in use. In the preferred embodiment described the spool has a single track within which the single line in connection with the spool is constrained to wrap directly on itself. The connection of the line to the spool is such that the spool may be rotated in either of opposite directions and in either case the line will wrap smoothly on itself. In the preferred embodiment illustrated the spool has a press fit gear through the medium of which it is driven in either of its opposite directions of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4541575
Abstract: A method of winding brushless motors is disclosed. According to the method one turn of the winding is applied to each phase of a multi-phase motor, then, a second turn is applied to each of the phases, etc., until the required number of turns are wound. The method results in a layered winding having a minimum of end turned build-up and excellent inductance balance between phases of the winding. Because the winding for each phase is continuous, a high reliability winding is produced.
