  • Patent number: 5545078
Abstract: In a quick-action clamping device for axially securing a disk-shaped tool, particularly a grinding wheel on a flange of a driven spindle that has a clamping part provided with a thread that can be screwed to the thread of the spindle. The disk-shaped tool is held clamped between contact surfaces of the flange and the clamping part whose spacing from one another can be changed. It is proposed to avoid complete release of the tension nut during spindle stop operation in that the tool is pressed against the flange by means of at least one additional holding surface via a spring force, and that this additional holding surface is connected to the spindle in a manner secured against relative rotation.

  • Patent number: 5540615
Abstract: An in-process rotary machine balancer which utilizes a plurality of vibration wave motors with unbalanced rotor members for positioning the unbalanced rotors to cancel a measured imbalance of a rotating machine. Each unbalanced rotor member is positioned in rotation with respect to a rotating machine component by activating a respective vibration wave motor to orient the plurality of unbalanced rotor members to a desired trigonometric configuration which balances the rotating machine part. Preferably, an off-the-shelf vibration wave motor is modified by affixing an eccentric mass to the rotor member which provides the corresponding rotary imbalance. Preferably, a pair of vibration wave motors are utilized on a rotating machine shaft such that their initial configuration offsets and balances each respective eccentric mass in order to determine the imbalance of a rotating shaft. Corresponding rotation of each unbalanced rotor member produces a corresponding opposite imbalance which balances the rotating shaft.

  • Patent number: 5540616
Abstract: A device that is intended as a snap on attachment for an existing pole-mounted sander. Snap-fit receiving elements are attached to the poleward side of the generally rectangular and planar abrasive receiving surface and the pole itself is slid through and retained against lateral movement by a central rigid collar. This then brings a substantially rigid mouth portion that is configured to extend about the periphery of the receiving surface, and that also carries upon it the protruding snap members, into a proximal relationship with the abrasive receiving surface whereby the mutually engageable snap members hold the present invention in place to form a continuous intake port. A flexible collar portion lies between the mouth portion and the rigid collar portion to allow for tilting of the abrasive surface during use, as is common on the pole mounted sanders currently in use.

  • Patent number: 5538462
Abstract: A lapping compound mixing and supply system wherein lapping compound is recirculated to the mixing vessel when not supplied to the lapping chamber of a machine tool such as a gear lapping machine. Lapping compound is pumped at about a first range of pump speeds to the lapping chamber, however, when no lapping is being performed, lapping compound is pumped at about a second, decreased range of pump speeds through a recirculating conduit and introduced into the mixing vessel along the conical bottom surface of the vessel. The introduction of lapping compound in this manner, along with the action of an rotating impeller in the vessel, provides improved mixing of the lapping compound and homogenizes the temperature thereof.

  • Patent number: 5535650
Abstract: The invention is an adjustable plier wrench hand tool, combining the useful functions of standard adjustable wrenches with standard vise grip pliers. The invention has a main body, a plier handle having a plier handle head, and an upper and lower jaw. The lower jaw is slidably mounted to the main body and capable of moving towards and away from the upper jaw. A thumbscrew is threaded and mated to corresponding teeth on a rack integrally formed with the lower jaw, such that by rotating the thumbscrew, the lower jaw moves towards and away from the upper jaw. The thumbscrew has a bore through which a stub shaft, extends from which a cam, protrudes. By bringing the plier handle into a closed position, an apex of the plier handle head pushes against a cam surface of the cam, forcing the cam, the thumbscrew, and hence the lower jaw upwards, in effect causing a compression between the lower jaw and the upper jaw, so as to firmly grip an object typically a nut.

  • Patent number: 5536198
Abstract: An apparatus and method for on-site dressing and truing of rubber-covered cylinders mounted within sanding machines. The grinding apparatus comprises a base having a pneumatic cylinder mounted thereon for imparting oscillating or reciprocating movement to an abrasive plate which extends back and forth along the length of the rubber-covered cylinder during the dressing and truing procedure. The grinding apparatus removes the necessary amount of rubber compound from the rubber-covered cylinder upon which it acts until the rubber-covered cylinder is perfectly round, and the grinding apparatus is then removed from the sanding machine. In this fashion, the apparatus and method of the invention provide for on-site dressing and truing of rubber-covered cylinders of sanding machines without the necessity for conventional removal of the rubber-covered cylinders for dressing and truing.
