  • Patent number: 7210215
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a winding includes steps of twisting U-shaped conductor segments, inserting straight portions of the twisted conductor segments in slots of a stator core, bending ends of the straight portions in a circumferential direction of the stator core and joining the ends. The method further includes a step of pressing turn portions of the U-shaped conductor segments by a turn portion twisting apparatus such that widths of the turn portions reduce in radial directions. The pressing step is performed simultaneously with the twisting step. Alternatively, the pressing step is performed after the twisting step.

  • Patent number: 7200917
Abstract: A number of embodiments of rotating electrical machines and methods for winding them that provides a high space utilization and very effective winding with less likelihood of damage to the insulation of the wire of the winding during the winding process. The arrangement basically does not require the winding needle to be moved back and forth in the slot between the poles but rather employs insulating inserts that are positioned on the axial faces of the poles outside of the gaps for guiding the wire from one end to the other so as to provide the high space utilization. In one embodiment the insulating insert effectively changes the circumferential length of the coil winding that decreases in an axial direction along their length.

  • Patent number: 7197818
Abstract: A method and structures are provided for implementing customizable dielectric printed circuit card traces. A void is defined near selected signal traces. The void is then filled with a dielectric material having a predefined dielectric property. The dielectric material is selected to alter at least one predefined electrical property of the selected signal traces, such as, coupling, propagation delay and attenuation. In one embodiment, an outer layer of a printed circuit card includes a plurality of signal traces and a mating circuit card layer including a plurality of matching signal traces is attached to the outer layer of the printed circuit card to create a cavity near selected signal traces. The cavity is filled with the selected dielectric material. In another embodiment, dielectric material is selectively removed near signal traces on an outer layer of the printed circuit card to define a void near selected signal traces.

  • Patent number: 7188403
Abstract: The armature of a motor comprises a core constituted by assembling a plurality of split core members. Each split core member has at least two teeth. The method for manufacturing the armature comprises the steps of: winding a conductive wire on each tooth of each split core member to form a first coil on the teeth; spanning the conductive wire extending from a winding finishing end of the first coil from each tooth to the other tooth; winding the conductive wire on the tooth to which the conductive wire is spanned to form a second coil on the first coil; joining a winding starting end of the first coil and a winding finishing end of the second coil in each tooth to form a single coil; and mutually assembling the plurality of split core members each comprising the coils. As a result, productivity is improved, while reducing size.

  • Patent number: 7168159
Abstract: In a wire termination apparatus, an anvil for placing a terminal thereon is mounted on a base plate, corresponding in position to a crimper of a ram. The terminal is crimped by a crimping portion, which includes the crimper and the anvil. An elongate link piece is mounted on the ram, and a guide member having a groove in which an elongate component, such as a fluorescent tube, is placed, is mounted on the tip of the link piece. The guide member is positioned to be aligned with the terminal placed on the anvil, when the ram is in its uppermost position. A conductive lead of the component and a conductor of an insulated wire are inserted into the terminal from directions perpendicular to each other, then the terminal is crimped by the crimper.

  • Patent number: 7155811
Abstract: An armature for a brush commutated electric motor having a distributed coil winding arrangement for reducing brush arcing and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The winding pattern involves segmenting each coil into first and second subcoil portions with differing pluralities of turns. Each subcoil portion is wound around separate pairs of spaced apart slots of a lamination stack. Adjacent coils are wound such that one subcoil portion of each is wound in a common slot to therefore form an overlapping arrangement of each pair of adjacently coils. The winding pattern serves to “shift” the resultant magnetic axes of each coil in such a manner so as to significantly reduce brush arcing and the EMI resulting therefrom. The reduction in EMI is sufficient to eliminate the need for EMI reducing components, such as chokes, which have typically been required to maintain EMI to acceptably low levels.

  • Patent number: 7152306
Abstract: A method for installing a stator winding in a stator core. A winding turn is formed by drawing a cable portion from a cable reel and inserting it into two winding slots. Each winding turn that is jointlessly connected to first winding turn and has the same winding direction as the first turn is formed by making this winding turn include a cable section corresponding to a turn on the reel that has been lifted off the reel by lateral movement over a gable of the reel. To form each winding turn that is jointlessly connected to the first winding turn and has a second winding direction opposite the winding direction of the first turn, the cable portion forming this winding turn is made to include a section corresponding to a turn on the reel that has been lifted off the reel by lateral movement over the other gable.

  • Patent number: 7117582
Abstract: A method of enabling a reliable, motor-to-base merge process is designed for motors that are attached to a base with screws that mount from outside of the base. An assembly fixture receives the motor, which has a tooling hole for circumferentially locating the motor relative to the base. The assembly fixture closely receives the motor and has a tooling pin that engages the tooling hole to prevent rotation of the motor relative to the assembly fixture. During the motor-to-base merge process, the motor is inverted with the tooling pin in the tooling hole. The assembly fixture aligns the threaded screw holes in the motor with the mounting holes on the base.

  • Patent number: 7107676
Abstract: Manufacturing equipment and manufacturing process steps that improve upon prior art processes for the manufacturing of filament tube and arc tube light sources, their components and subassemblies, and lamps employing said light sources. A double ended, tipless filament tube or arc tube light source incorporates a drawn-down tubular body, and one piece foliated leads with spurs for process handling and for spudding into a filament with stretched-out legs. Bugled ends on the body provide a novel cutoff means, facilitate a flush-fill finishing process, and enhance mounting and support of the light sources in lamps. The foliated leads are made from a continuous length of wire in a process including foil hammering and two-bath AC electrochemical etching. Cost-reduced light source and lamp production enables affordable household consumer lamps, even when containing two series-connected halogen filament tubes.
