  • Patent number: 7031738
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for a fixed wireless access communication system, by which to initiate a call to an emergency dispatch center, or other priority call to a priority location. When communication resources are initially unavailable to permit establishment of the call, normal call set-up procedures are emulated at a subscriber station from which the call is to be originated. Communication resources are reallocated in the communication system to permit the establishment of the call and the call is thereafter established.

  • Patent number: 7024191
Abstract: For detecting service carriers, a received power measuring section initially carries out received power measurement in a frequency band assigned to the system, a frequency limiting section limits a service carrier seeking frequency range to the vicinity of a frequency where thus measured received power exceeds a threshold, the received power measuring section measures the received power at a frequency where a service carrier may exist within this frequency range, and the controller chooses a frequency yielding a high measured received power as a service carrier candidate frequency. Then, the cell search executing section initially executes a cell search for this candidate frequency.

  • Patent number: 7016644
Abstract: An approach is provided for compensating for non-linearity in an overlaid radio communication system, such as a satellite network, wherein a terminal and a hub station communicates bi-directionally using a composite signal that is transmitted from a relay station and includes an inbound signal overlaid with an outbound signal. A look-up table stores information used to determine an inverse of a function associated with a non-linear effect of a received composite signal. The inbound signal has a predetermined spectral configuration. The device also includes a multiplier configured to generate a product of the look-up table and the received composite signal. Also, the device includes an estimation module configured to output an estimate of the inbound signal based upon the product.

  • Patent number: 7013158
Abstract: A method and system for brokering frequencies for use in peer-to-peer communication sessions. A frequency broker receives session-participation messages from multiple parties wishing to communicate wirelessly with each other. The broker selects a frequency for the parties to use and then instructs the parties to communicate with each other on the selected frequency. And the parties then engage in peer-to-peer communication with each other over the selected frequency.

  • Patent number: 7010313
Abstract: The method provides talk around in the communication system by sending a talk around request from one of the subscriber units 101–108 to the base unit 100. At the subscriber unit a RSSI (received signal strength indication) of a signal received from the base unit is determined and sent back to the base unit 100. In the base unit 100 the RSSI is compared to a predetermined window. If the RSSI is above the window, the request from the subscriber unit is denied. If the RSSI is within the window, a frequency channel and power level are assigned to the subscriber unit, the subscriber unit thereby going into talk around mode. If the RSSI is below the window, the subscriber unit does not respond and the subscriber unit goes into a direct communication mode independent of the communication system.

  • Patent number: 7010320
Abstract: This invention is to prevent deterioration in communication quality of closed loop transmission power control, which may occur when the change in transmission power cannot keep up with a sudden change in the state of a transmission path. Transmission power control command extractor 4 extracts a transmission power control command from the uplink signal that has been received by receiver 2. Mobile position predictor 7 predicts the future position of the mobile station from its present position as recognized by mobile position recognizer 5 and from its present rate of movement as recognized by mobile velocity recognizer 6. Database 8 records the state of the downlink transmission path as a function of mobile position. Transmission power controller 9 looks up database 8 on the basis of the predicted future position of the mobile station and controls the downlink transmission power of base station BS on the basis of (i) the result of this lookup, and (ii) the transmission power control command.

  • Patent number: 6983138
Abstract: Devices, systems and processes for accessing and management of voice and other messages. Such devices, systems and processes employ an interface which allows the user to access and manage messages on his or her user device and, furthermore, automatically to access and manage messages on remote devices via radio frequency link. These interfaces may present users with intuitive and direct options for accessing and managing voice mail, such as, for instance, to push a designated forward button when the user desires to forward a voice mail. Such common interfaces promote more efficient and effective use and management of messaging resources because they among other things eliminate the requirement to be conversant in different interfaces, rules and protocols for the different platforms on which messages may be accessed and managed.

  • Patent number: 6983151
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and system for synchronization in radio communication systems are presented. The method includes the steps of encapsulating symbols in an information stream then modulating the stream. The modulated information stream is then sent over a communication channel at a first robustness level, and the level of robustness of the information stream is then reduced to a second robustness level according to a predetermined function. The modulated information stream is received from the communication channel. The information stream is then demodulated after a first number of symbols have been received, wherein the first number of symbols is less than a second number of symbols that would have to be received to demodulate a corresponding information stream sent over the communication channel only at the second robustness level.

  • Patent number: 6980823
Abstract: Various techniques for improving a wireless communication device are described. The techniques may include reducing power in a wireless communication device for a first sleep period and then increasing power in the wireless communication device for an intermediate wake period after the first sleep period to estimate an error of the sleep clock. The method may further include reducing power in the wireless communication device for a second sleep period after the intermediate wake period. The intermediate wake mode implemented during the intermediate period can be used to estimate the error of the sleep clock without performing one or more tasks associated with an awake mode, such as demodulation. The techniques may facilitate the effective use of low frequency low power clocks for sleep mode, even when relatively large slot cycles are defined within a slotted paging system.

  • Patent number: 6970712
Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for buffering and replaying a segment of a voice or data transmission. A connection is established between two end nodes in the network. At an intermediate node in the network between the end nodes, a predetermined segment of the data is maintained in a memory as a buffer. Upon receiving a request from one of the end nodes to replay the segment, that segment is replayed and transmitted to the requesting node. The request may be made by a user at one of the end nodes, or may be made automatically after detecting corrupt data. Because the buffering module is in the network, it need not be incorporated in premises or mobile equipment. Because the buffering module is remote from the requesting end node, the replayed data does not contain errors introduced in the original data between the buffering module and the requesting end node.

  • Patent number: 6963726
Abstract: First and second waveguides which have respective axes thereof arranged parallel to each other are respectively held by dielectric feeders. A projection wall or a thick wall is formed as a correction part on a front surface of a waterproof cover which covers radiation parts of the dielectric feeders. Due to such a constitution, when radio waves transmitted from neighboring first and second satellites are converged by a reflector and are incident on the inside of respective waveguides, it is possible to delay a phase of radio waves which pass the waterproof cover by the correction part (projection wall or thick wall) so that it is possible to adjust such that radiation patterns of radio waves which are incident on the respective waveguides are reflected on a common portion of the reflector whereby the required reflector can be miniaturized.
