  • Patent number: 5469124
Abstract: An easy to assemble transformer for use in an electronics module of an electric vehicle. The transformer can be assembled from the "top down," thus alleviating the need to build the transformer as a subassembly unit. During manufacture of the transformer, windings are wound onto a thermally conductive coil form. Next upper and lower E-shaped core members are inserted into openings in the top and bottom of the form so that the side legs and the center legs of the E's touch and are in alignment. The thermally conductive coil form has a portion that touches a cold plate when the transformer is mounted on the cold plate. The transformer is further secured to the cold plate by a mounting bracket.

  • Patent number: 5463303
Abstract: The primary windings and part of the magnetic circuit of an automobile battery charging transformer are mounted in a separable multiple panel inductive charge coupler which is insertable into and removable from corresponding inductive charge receptacle slots in the automobile adjacent the transformer secondary windings and magnetic structure. The use of thin primary and secondary coils decreases the resistance losses in the coils. When the inductive charge coupler is in place and is energized, the primary winding energizes the secondary winding to permit charging of the batteries on the automobile.

  • Patent number: 5455552
Abstract: A common mode choke has a generally rectangular ferrite body for surface mounting on a printed circuit board. First and second spaced apart slotted openings extend vertically between the top face and the bottom face of the ferrite body. At least one pair of electrical conductors extend along parallel paths from the bottom face through the first slotted opening to the top face, along a portion of the top face, and back down through the second slotted opening to the bottom face. One pair of opposing side faces preferably has lower portions extending outwardly past a plane of the bottom face to thereby serve as a support to mount the bottom face of the ferrite body in spaced relation from the circuit board. The electrical conductors may then extend outwardly from the bottom face of the ferrite body for electrical connection through corresponding openings of a circuit board or extend laterally outwardly for electrical connection to corresponding portions of the circuit board in a gull wing configuration.
