  • Patent number: 5430613
Abstract: A current transformer device is formed on a ceramic substrate which is provided with a plurality of planar conductive tracks formed on a surface of the substrate where the conductive tracks extend substantially radially from an imaginary point on the surface of the substrate. A structure of permeable material layers is then tape cast or epitaxially formed by vapor deposition of a thick film of magnetic ceramic over the major portion of each of the conductive tracks to form a permeable toroidal core. A lead frame is then placed over the core and a plurality of metal conductors are soldered to each of the respective exposed ends of the metal conductive tracks on the substrate to form a toroidal coil surrounding the toroidal core. The required electrical elements to complete the current transformer device are mounted to a second side of the ceramic substrate and electrically connected to the toroidal coil for powering and/or receiving signals therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5418513
Abstract: A transformer core assembly in a transformer comprises a coil having a primary winding and a secondary winding which are successively wound about a hollow coil bobbin, in division, with respect to a longitudinal direction of the hollow coil bobbin, and a pair of E-type cores in which central core sections of respective three core sections extending in parallel relation to each other are inserted respectively from both ends of the coil bobbin into a hollow section therewithin. The core sections of one of the pair of E-type cores have lengths thereof which are formed shorter than lengths of the core sections of the other E-type core. When the central core sections are inserted respectively into the hollow section within the coil bobbin, so-called core gaps defined such that the core sections have respective forward ends thereof which are abutted against each other are located within an area corresponding to the primary winding of the coil bobbin.

  • Patent number: 5414401
Abstract: A multi-pole magnetic component, such as an inductor, includes z-folded conductive film windings and a core having a plurality of pairs of spaced apart core posts extending between a base plate and a top plate of the core. The core includes an air gap that is distributed substantially evenly along the flux path. Magnetic flux flows through the core posts in a series manner so as to have an opposite flux direction in adjacent poles. Preferably, the air gap is determined such that the ratio of the distance between each adjacent core post and the distance between the base and top plates results in magnetic fields that are substantially tangential to the surface of the conductive film winding. Furthermore, the core posts are preferably shaped to have a larger cross sectional area at the base portion of the posts than at the top portion thereof. Alternatively, the core posts are attached to the bottom plate and are inserted into suitably shaped cut-out portions of the top plate.

  • Patent number: 5404123
Abstract: A transformer structure of modular parts comprises a bobbin for supporting the primary winding, and one or more sets of end pieces sized to successively fit one over another in a nesting arrangement. The end piece flanges provide part of the secondary winding support surface. Further winding surfaces may be provided by adding further sets of end pieces which nest one within the other. The end piece flanges afford added inter-winding isolation. A double flange version of the end pieces affords still greater isolation. While applicable to small-scale transformers, the concept can also be adapted for medium and larger-size transformer designs.

  • Patent number: 5402096
Abstract: A transducer comprises a pair of inductive coils connected in series. The coils of the pair are arranged adjacent one another with respective end faces of the coils substantially mutually aligned. A magnetically permeable member is movable relative to the end faces in such a manner that the impedance offered to an AC signal by one coil increases while the impedance offered to the signal by the other coil decreases. The end faces of the coils may be curved and arranged diametrically opposite one another around the circumference of a circle, and the magnetically permeable member may comprise a generally semi-circular plate, rotatable about an axis passing through the center of the circle, for covering approximately half of the total area of the end faces of the coils. This arrangement provides for linearity of output voltage variation with angular position of the plate.

  • Patent number: 5396211
Abstract: A very small and thin transformer to be used as incorporated in an electronic device for the civil life. In this transformer, a coil is wound on a coil bobbin in which core sheets are incorporated as laminated. This laminated core is provided with an insulating cover for insulation. However, when a gap is produced between the core sheets, an adverse influence will be produced on the electric characteristics of the transformer. Therefore, in case the insulating cover is applied to cover the laminated core, the insulating cover having a resiliency will press the core sheets in the laminating direction to prevent a gap from being produced between the core laminations.

  • Patent number: 5392020
Abstract: A transformer secondary winding comprises a laminated structure which includes first and second outer sheets fabricated from an insulator material, sandwiched between the outer sheets is a thin flexible sheet of a magnetizable material. The first and second outer sheets each have a parallel conductive line pattern on a surface thereof. Selected ends of the lines on the first sheet are connected to the selected ends of the lines on the second sheet in such a manner as to provide a coiled pattern between the sheets, which coiled pattern encircles the central magnetizable sheet. The above laminated configuration can be flexed or rolled into a circular configuration to form a transformer secondary winding. The circular secondary windings are concentrically positioned about a first primary cylinder fabricated from an insulator sheet having parallel conductor elements or lines arranged on a surface thereof.

  • Patent number: 5379021
Abstract: An inductive coupler for transferring electrical power from the primary to the secondary is disclosed. A secondary coil assembly having a pair of cores each having a secondary winding is disposed in a case having an opening at one end thereof. The core has a central post projecting from the axial center of a disc-shaped base and an annular skirt projecting from the rim of the base in the same direction, thus forming therebetween an annular groove in which the secondary winding is disposed. As a coil case having a primary winding is inserted between the paired cores and moved further inward of the case, the secondary coil assembly is moved inward of the case. During this movement of the secondary coil assembly, its paired cores are caused to displace toward each other while being guided by pins sliding along guide slits until the cores are mated together thereby to form a magnetic circuit of the inductive coupler.
