Abstract: It concerns a monomer, a polymer obtained from the monomer and a process for obtaining the said polymer. The monomer consists of a polyether containing at least 3 ether units and pyrrole or thiophene units bonded to the ends of the chains of this polyether via, for each of these heterocycic compounds, either their carbon atoms in the 3,3'-positions of their heterocycles or, as regards more particularly the pyrrole groups, via their respective nitrogen atoms, the 2- and 2'-positions of these heterocycles being, however, free of all substitutions or, at the very most, substituted by easily removable groups (protective groups, for example). Application to the purification and recovery of metal ions such as radioactive silver.

Abstract: A polymerizable composition consisting essentially of about 50 to about 90% by weight of vinylpyrrolidone monomer, about 10 to about 50% by weight of vinyl caprolactam monomer, and about 0.5 to about 7% by weight of a crosslinker, which is capable of proliferous polymerization in the absence of base at about 80.degree.-120.degree. C.
Abstract: This invention provides a maleimide-based copolymer in which, because its molecular weight-retention ratio at high temperature is high, deterioration of physical properties by heating is little. Also, this invention provides a process wherein a maleimide-based copolymer is arranged so as not to heat more than necessity and thereby a maleimide-based copolymer containing only a small amount of residual volatile components is efficiently obtained without deterioration of physical properties. The maleimide-based copolymer is such as having a glass transition temperature of 170.degree. C. or higher, a weight-average molecular weight of 100,000 to 500,000, and a molecular weight-retention ratio of 90% or more when heated at 280.degree. C. for 10 minutes.
Abstract: A polymerzable compound represented by the general formula (1) X--R.sub.1 --Y where X is an unsaturated imide group having substituents R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, or an itacon imide group where R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a lower alkyl group and an aromatic group having a substituent p which is hydrogen, a lower alkyl group, or an alkoxy group, and Y is a styryl group, and R.sub.1 is a divalent organic group. The polymerizable compounds is excellent in formability, and find a wide variety of applications because they have functional groups different in reactivity from each other and hence allow the curing conditions to control. The cured polymers are excellent in thermal durability, mechanical properties and electrical properties, making it possible to achieve higher performance, higher reliability, highly compact and lower weight of electric apparatuses and electronic parts.

These compounds can be used as an emulsifier in emulsion polymerization.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process for anionic polymerization of selected methacrylate monomers at elevated (as high as about 100.degree. C.) temperatures, while maintaining good "living" characteristics, by carrying out the polymerization in the presence of a silicon compound and a large cation. Also disclosed is an improved process for the polymerization of vinyl monomers, including methacrylates, which process comprises the use of an anionic intiator which is a combination of an alkali metal hydride and an alkoxysilane or a combination of an alkali metal alkoxide and a silicon hydride.
