  • Publication number: 20150335278
Abstract: A portable VOG device is disclosed that will facilitate the effective and efficient screening for TBI in military personnel in forward deployed military settings or remote locations using minimally trained staff. This includes the establishment of a protocol that will provide cost effective pre-screening of military personnel prior to deployment to establish a baseline of brain function prior to possible future injury. The efficiency of the device will promote subsequent follow-up screening to assess the effectiveness of prescribed TBI treatment. Further protocols for diagnosis and rehabilitation applications using the same virtual reality portable device will allow more advanced usage for clinicians providing ongoing evaluation and treatment.

  • Publication number: 20150328562
Abstract: Provided are methods and structures for adsorbing contaminants from liquid, and applications thereof. An adsorbing mixture comprised substantially of rice hull ash is added to a liquid with contaminants that is at a preferred temperature for the adsorbing mixture. The adsorbing mixture interacts with the liquid with contaminants for a preferred amount of time and adsorbs the contaminants such that the contaminants are removed from the liquid. The adsorbing mixture is removed from the liquid using a filter that separates the adsorbing mixture from the liquid by way of a preferred pore size that allows the liquid to pass through but not the adsorbing mixture.

  • Patent number: 9173760
Abstract: Several gastrointestinal surgery procedures are effective as treatments for metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes. Minimally invasive procedures including intra-luminal gastrointestinal implants have been proposed to mimic the anatomical, physiological and metabolic changes achieved by these procedures. Many of these designs include long sleeve like elements that prevent contact of food with the walls of the small intestine. It is desirable to have simple delivery systems that can place these implants under endoscopic guidance. However, in order to anchor these sleeve elements safely and reliably, the inventors have previously disclosed anchoring means that anchor the sleeves at the junctions of the stomach and the intestine or the stomach and esophagus.
