  • Patent number: 6740563
Abstract: A method for fabricating a polysilicon emitter bipolar transistor employs a pair of ion implant methods. A first of the icon implant methods implants a portion of an intrinsic base region interposed between an extrinsic base region and a polysilicon emitter layer with an amorphizing non-active dopant. A second of the ion implant methods implants the polysilicon emitter layer with an active dopant to form a doped polysilicon emitter layer. The polysilicon emitter bipolar transistor is fabricated with enhanced performance.

  • Patent number: 6677105
Abstract: A silicon nitride self-lubricating layer forms the upper surface of a data storage device, such as a rotating disk or a non-rotating memory device, e.g., a credit card-type memory device using a memory strip. The silicon nitride self-lubricating layer can replace the carbon protective overcoat and liquid lubricant used in conventional data storage devices. The silicon nitride self-lubrication layer provides the desired lubrication and protection between the slider and the data storage device. The silicon nitride layer also will not evaporate under high temperatures found in an optical data storage system. In addition, a data storage device may include a plastic polymer layer over which an iron oxide material is deposited. The use of a plastic polymer layer and iron oxide recording layer is particularly advantageous because a low temperature deposition process can be used with the iron oxide material.

  • Patent number: 6663278
Abstract: A method for determining the thermal resistance constant of a modular heat sink. The method can be carried out by first providing a heat capacity tank formed of a high thermal conductivity metal. A modular heat sink is then mounted on top of the heat capacity tank and heated together with the tank to a temperature of at least 40° C. The heating is then stopped and the heat sink/heat capacity tank is allowed to cool for at least 30 seconds before the temperature and the cooling time of the heat capacity tank is monitored and recorded. The function of dT/dt is then calculated. The amount of heat dissipated is then calculated from the equation of Q=W·Cp·(dT/dt), while the thermal resistance constant is calculated by the equation of R=(T−Tamb)/Q.

  • Publication number: 20030215603
Abstract: A crack arrest tape is in the form of a continuous long strip having a plurality of holes densely distributed on a surface thereof. Elastic patching material serving as a bonding agent in repairing a crack on a wall passes through the holes on the crack arrest tape to hold the latter in place above the crack. Portions on the tape surrounded by any four of the holes adjacent to one another are connecting zones that are at least equal to the holes in area to enhance a structural strength of the crack arrest tape and prevent the tape attached to the crack from displacement and/or tearing due to any deformation stress of the cracked wall resulted from expansion and contraction caused by changes in temperature.

  • Patent number: 6627971
Abstract: A device with a plurality of structures with different resistance values is formed on a substrate. A polysilicon layer is formed upon the substrate. A silicon oxide layer is formed over the substrate. A hard masking layer is formed over the silicon oxide layer. The hard masking layer includes a full thickness portion and a thinner portion. The polysilicon layer below the full thickness portion is lightly doped forming a high resistance region. Below the thinner portion the polysilicon layer is heavily doped forming a low resistance region. However, in spite of the differences in resistance, the high resistance region and the low resistance region have the same thickness.

  • Patent number: 6626050
Abstract: A flow sensing system capable of improving the monitored range of a flow sensing system. The flow sensing system has a transparent tube, an upper edge sensing assembly, a lower edge sensing assembly and a floating buoy. Under normal operating conditions, the lower edge sensing assembly detects the buoy exactly once during a first timing session, detects no buoy during a second timing session and detects the buoy exactly once during a third timing session. If one of the conditions is violated, a warning signal is issue to a station operator. The upper edge sensing assembly should not detect the buoy throughout the three timing sessions; otherwise, an abnormality has occurred and a warning signal is sent to the station operator. The sensing system prevents the size and length of buoy from interfering with the monitored range so that a more stable flow system is maintained.
