  • Patent number: 9849852
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to deploying safety mechanisms in an autonomous vehicle. As an example, the situational information identifying a potential impact target corresponding to an object with which the autonomous vehicle is predicted to have a collision within a predetermined period of time may be received. This situational information may also include an estimated time when the second computing device will receive an update for the potential impact target from the first computing device. The estimated time may be used to determine when to deploy a set of active safety mechanisms for the potential impact target. Each active safety mechanism may be configured to reduce a likelihood of damage to an object external to the autonomous vehicle caused by a collision. A signal is then sent to activate the set of active safety mechanisms prior to an impact with the object corresponding to the identified potential impact target.

  • Patent number: 9817397
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to deploying safety mechanisms in an autonomous vehicle. A projected future location of an object may be identified. The projected future location of the object will intersect with a projected future location of the vehicle at a time T. An impact point P corresponding to a three dimensional location in space where the vehicle and object will collide at the time T may be identified. One of a plurality of safety mechanisms of the vehicle that can be moved closest to point P before or at the time T may be selected. The selected safety mechanism may be moved from a first point on the vehicle to a second point on the vehicle such that the safety mechanism moves towards the point P. After moving the selected safety mechanism, the safety mechanism is then deployed based on the time T.

  • Patent number: 9725060
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate altering the rigidity of a vehicle's surface. More particularly, the vehicle may contain tension members that are arranged so that a change in tension across one or more of the tension members will alter the rigidity of the vehicle's surface. The vehicle may identify and respond to a potential collision by altering the tension that is applied to one or more tension members, thereby altering the rigidity of the vehicle's surface.

  • Patent number: 9566939
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to adjusting a shear pin to minimize an impact force felt by an object in a collision with a vehicle. For example, one or more second computing devices may receive, from one or more first computing devices, information indicating that an impact with an object is imminent. In response to the received information, the second computing devices may determine a first shear force for a first shear pin, wherein the first shear force is a desired amount of shear force necessary to break the first shear pin. The second computing devices may send a triggering signal to activate an actuator prior to an impact with the identified impact target. The actuator, in response to receiving the triggering signal, may adjust the first shear pin in a first pinhole, so the first shear pin will break at the first shear force.

  • Patent number: 9553594
Abstract: A DLL includes a phase detector, a counter, a delay circuit, and a false-lock detection and recovery circuit. The false-lock detection and recovery circuit checks whether the DLL is in a true-lock condition or not, based on an average of a phase difference between a clock signal and an intermediate clock signal. The intermediate clock signal is generated by the delay circuit based on a count value generated by the counter and a select signal generated by the false-lock detection and recovery circuit. The false-lock detection and recovery circuit generates and provides a control signal to the counter. Based on the control signal, the counter modifies the count on which a delay between the clock signal and an output signal of the DLL depends when the DLL is not in the true-lock condition.

  • Patent number: 9503452
Abstract: The method integrates the dynamic and authoritative posture of an authenticated user, a registered device, and a registered service provider as a conclusive proof of identity recognition for affiliation of associated contextual attribution and referential integrity. In addition to relieving the user of the burden of remembering multiple passwords for a plurality of services, the method provides a means to facilitate an affiliation oriented architecture for a broad spectrum of web and cloud based services with affiliation aware content streaming, leveraging the affiliation score as a key trust metric. The method provides protection from user-agnostic delegation and impersonation of identity, social engineering, and compromised passwords, which are exploited by numerous strains of landed malware to launch multi-stage coordinated cyber-attacks on consumer accounts and enterprise systems.

  • Publication number: 20160191196
Abstract: An optical signal module including a driver and an optical signal module. The driver includes a differential pair configured to receive and process an input signal to create a drive signal. A modulation current source provides a modulation current to the differential pair. One or more termination resistors connected to the differential pair for impedance matching. A first switch, responsive to a first control signal, maintains charge on a charge storage device. The optical signal module includes an optical signal generator arranged between a supply voltage node and a bias current node. The optical signal generator receives the drive signal and generates an optical signal representing the input signal. A second switch is between a supply voltage node the bias current node. The second switch, responsive to second control signal, selectively establishes a short between the supply voltage node the bias current node.

  • Patent number: 9122312
Abstract: One or more computing devices may detect the presence of a user, determine default communication mode for communicating with the user, use the default communication mode to elicit a communicative gesture from the user, receive a signal identifying at least one communicative gesture from the user, and convert the identified communicative gestures into a command. The default communication mode may be based on the identity of the user. Alternatively, the default communication mode can be determined by using a first mode of communication to prompt the user to make a mode-selection gesture, and if a mode-selection gesture is detected from the user within a threshold period of time, setting the first mode of communication as the default communication mode. Otherwise, if no mode-selection gesture is detected within a threshold period of time, using an alternative mode of communication to prompt the user to make a mode-selection gesture.
