  • Patent number: 7089830
Abstract: A wrench includes a handle, a head, a drive member rotatably mounted in the head, two pawls, an elastic element for biasing at least one of the pawls to engage with the drive member, and a pivotable switch. An end of each pawl defines a space. The end of each pawl further includes a protrusion. The spaces of the pawls overlap with each other and the protrusion of each pawl is located in the space of the other pawl. The switch includes an actuating member extending into the overlapped spaces of the pawls and between the protrusions of the pawls. The actuating member of the switch is pivotable to engage with and thus move the protrusion of one of the pawls, disengaging the pawl from the drive member and thereby changing a driving rotation direction and a free rotation direction of the wrench.

  • Patent number: 7032478
Abstract: A ratcheting wrench includes a handle, a head extending from an end of the handle and having a hole communicated with a compartment in the end of the handle, a drive member rotatably mounted in the hole of the head, and a ratcheting mechanism. The drive member includes an inner periphery for securely holding a fastener-driving member, allowing joint rotation when the drive member is turned. The drive member further includes a flange formed on an end of an outer periphery thereof and located outside the head for manual rotation of the drive member. The ratcheting mechanism is mounted in the compartment of the handle and engaged with the teeth of the drive member, allowing the handle to selectively move in a ratcheting direction for tightening/loosening a fastener and in a free turning direction reverse to the ratcheting direction in which the fastener is not turned.

  • Patent number: 7017453
Abstract: A wrench includes a handle, a head extending from the handle and having a hole for rotatably receiving a drive member, and a web defined between the handle and the head. The web includes a side and a compartment communicated with the hole of the head. An opening is defined in the side of the web and communicated with the compartment. A pawl is slidably received in the compartment and includes a recessed portion. A switching member has a first end for manual operation and a second end extending through the opening of the web into the recessed portion of the pawl. The recessed portion of the pawl and the second end of the switching member are so configured that the switching member is not moved when the pawl moves as a result of free rotation of the wrench.

  • Patent number: 6957600
Abstract: A wrench includes a handle, a head having a pivotal portion pivotably connected to an end of the handle, and a retaining mechanism for allowing the head to be pivotally moved to a desired position relative to the handle and retaining the head in the desired position. The pivotal portion of the head includes a fore part and a rear part with reference to a ratcheting direction of the handle. The fore part includes an arcuate outer surface section. The rear part includes a toothed section having a plurality of teeth. The toothed section has a dedendum circle located inside an area delimited by the arcuate outer surface section. Thus, the thickness of the fore part is not reduced, preventing damage to the torque-bearing section in the fore part during operation.
