  • Publication number: 20150004708
Abstract: The present invention includes a method for determining the level of deep gas in a near surface formation that includes: measuring CO2, O2, CH4, and N2 levels in percent by volume from one or more surface or near surface geological samples; adding the water vapor content to the measured CO2, O2, CH4, and N2 levels in percent by volume; normalizing the gas mixture to 100% by volume or 1 atmospheric total pressure; and determining the ratios of: O2 versus CO2 to distinguish in-situ vadose zone CO2 from exogenous deep leakage CO2; CO2 versus N2 to distinguish whether CO2 is being removed from the near surface formation or CO2 is added from an exogenous deep leakage input; or CO2 versus N2/O2 to determine the degree of oxygen influx, consumption, or both; wherein the ratios are indicative of natural in situ CO2 or CO2 from the exogenous deep leakage input.

  • Publication number: 20150000374
Abstract: The present invention includes a method for distinguishing between a natural source of deep gas and gas leaking from a CO2 storage reservoir at a near surface formation comprising: obtaining one or more surface or near surface geological samples; measuring a CO2, an O2, a CH4, and an N2 level from the surface or near surface geological sample; determining the water vapor content at or above the surface or near surface geological samples; normalizing the gas mixture of the CO2, the O2, the CH4, the N2 and the water vapor content to 100% by volume or 1 atmospheric total pressure; determining: a ratio of CO2 versus N2; and a ratio of CO2 to N2, wherein if the ratio is greater than that produced by a natural source of deep gas CO2 or deep gas methane oxidizing to CO2, the ratio is indicative of gas leaking from a CO2 storage reservoir.

  • Publication number: 20140251617
Abstract: A method of removing an unexpanded shoe comprises disposing a tool in a wellbore. The tool includes a latch assembly and a mill body. The latch assembly is engaged with a shoe assembly that is coupled to the wellbore by a tubular having an expanded portion and an unexpanded portion. The mill body is rotated relative to the latch assembly so as to mill the unexpanded portion of the tubular until the shoe assembly is uncoupled from the wellbore. The tool and the shoe assembly are then pulled through the expanded portion and out of the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 8499840
Abstract: A downhole releasable tubular connection includes a joint between two tubing strings, wherein one of the two tubing strings is radially expanded and plastically deformed by an expansion device. When the expansion device is moved adjacent to the joint, a threaded connection mechanism in the joint reacts to the radially outward forces of the expansion device and releasably expands, thereby decoupling the tubing strings.

  • Patent number: 8429221
Abstract: A method of redirecting content requests among content distribution network peers. In operation, a client sends a request for content to a content distribution network (CDN). When this CDN does not currently have the capacity to deliver the content, the CDN refers to one or more content distribution tables to see if the neighbor peers are able to provide this content. The content distribution table is populated at the time of distribution of the content. When the neighbor peer has this content, the request is redirected to the neighbor peer. In redirecting request, an address of the neighbor peer is appending to the previous address such that each peer receiving the request knows where the request came from and where it has been previously.

  • Patent number: 8146294
Abstract: A door locking system includes a first door and a second door positioned adjacent to each other and one of which is a sliding door. A mounting plate is mounted on the first door adjacent to the second door. A hinge plate has a hinged edge hingedly coupled to the mounting plate and is selectively positioned in a deployed position extending outwardly from the mounting plate. A stop includes a leg and an arcuate arm attached to the leg. The leg and arm are each hingedly coupled to the mounting plates and traverse the hinge plate. The stop releasably engages the hinge plate when the hinge plate is in the deployed position to retain the hinge plate in the deployed position and prevent the sliding of the first and second doors with respect to each other.

  • Publication number: 20110251150
Abstract: Provided herein are methods for the treatment of liver cancer. These methods encompass the administration of a compound comprising a modified oligonucleotide, wherein the modified oligonucleotide is targeted to a miRNA. Also provided herein are compositions for the treatment of liver cancer. Such compositions include compounds comprising a modified oligonucleotide, wherein the modified oligonucleotide is targeted to a miRNA. Certain miRNAs have been identified as overexpressed in liver cancer, such as, for example, hepatocellular carcinoma, and are thus selected for targeting by modified oligonucleotides. Further, certain miRNAs have been identified as overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma cells exposed to dioxin, and are thus selected for targeting by modified oligonucleotides. Antisense inhibition of certain of these miRNAs has been found to inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis.

  • Patent number: 7784592
Abstract: A method is provided for balancing a disc brake rotor having a first annular friction plate, a second annular friction plate, and a core gap. The first annular friction plate includes a first circumferential surface. The second annular friction plate includes a second circumferential surface. Respective regions are determined for removing material within the first circumferential surface and the second circumferential surface for balancing the disc brake rotor if the disc brake rotor is out of balance. A rotary straddle cutting tool is aligned with respective regions of the first circumferential surface and the second circumferential surface. Material is cut from the respective regions of the first circumferential surface and the second circumferential surface with the rotary straddle cutting tool. Cutting material from the respective regions includes removing material within the width of the first circumferential surface and the second circumferential surface.
